I couldn't resist! I had to put Kato up for the chapter picture! He might be my favorite character in this book!

Baleigh's POV

It was 11:34pm and I couldn't sleep. Nate didn't give me a time when we would sneak out tonight. I tossed and turned all night. Kato always slept beside my head except for tonight. Because I moved around too much, he slept on the floor. I left the duffle bag on the ground under my bed. Kato fell asleep on top of it when he jumped off.

When I couldn't take it anymore, I threw the comforter off of me and jumped out of bed. I was waiting for a cat to come flying off the bed. I looked back at my pillows and remembered that he was under the bed.

I wore my black clothes to bed so I didn't have to change when I got up. I slowly crept to my door and placed my hand on the doorknob. I was about to open the door when Nate came walking in.

He wore dark blue jeans and a black t-shirt. He had a small black backpack on his shoulder. In his hand was a pair of fingerless gloves and two beanies. You probably weren't able to guess that the gloves and beanies were black.

"You ready?" he asked.

I nodded. "Ready."

I turned around and laid on the floor by my bed. I reached out and grabbed my duffel bag. Kato jumped up and ran the opposite direction as I pulled it out. Nate put his hand over his mouth to hide a laugh.

I slung the bag over my shoulder. Nate handed me the fingerless gloves and one of the beanies to me. I slipped the gloves on and checked myself in the mirror on my table to make sure the beanie was in the right position. It's always good to look your best when going on a rescue mission.

Once I finished getting ready, Nate made his way to my window. He pushed up on the larch and swung it open. A cool midnight breeze blew into the room. The sound of crickets could be heard not far off. A bright like shined through the window. I looked up to see a full moon.

"You sure you're not going to turn into a demon werewolf right about now?" I asked.

Nate looked at me for a second, then at the moon. He rolled his eyes.

"Ha ha. Very funny." I gave him a grin. He rolled his eyes again while shaking his head. He then stuck his head out of the window and looked around.

"The coast is clear," Nate said. He held his hand out in my direction. I stepped back an inch from his arm.

"Rope. I need the rope." Nate tapped his fingers against his palm, signaling me to out the rope in his hand.

I quickly unzipped the duffel bag and rummaged through my stuff. I pulled out the rope and handed it to Nate. The rope looked unused except for the few scratch marks made by Kato.

Nate took the rope and tied it tight to the window latch. It seemed like a bad idea to be putting a rope against a latch that wasn't even a foot long, or strong.

He then swung the rope out the window. We both watched it fly down the side of the house. The rope was only a few inches above the pavement.

Nate stuck his leg through, holding onto the rope as he did. "Don't forget the cat," he said. Then, he slipped down the rope, disappearing from sight.

I sighed and turned around, looking for Kato. He was sitting in my desk, ready to jump out the window.

"Yeah. You're not jumping out." I picked the fluffy cat up and placed him in my duffel bag. He squirmed a little. I shushed him before I grabbed hold of the rope. I leaned over to see Nate jump down. He looked up and waved.

I took a deep breath before I swung my legs over. Very slowly, I inched my way down the rope. It shook as I moved. Kato was as still as a statue in my bag. He must be as scared as I am right now.

I reached the end of the rope and felt my feet touch air. I closed my eyes and let go. When I opened them, I saw my feet firmly on the ground and Kato meowing to get out of the bag.

I lifter Kato out of the bag and let him run off in the bushes. I knew he was smart enough to find his way back to us.

"What do we do with the rope?" I asked Nate.

Name examined the rope before speaking. "The best we can do is leave it. The only way to hide our tracks is if we had someone at the window to untie it. Let's just get to my car and get out of here."

I nodded. We both headed to Nate's car, which is always sitting in the driveway. We hopped inside, Nate shuffling through is pickets to find his keys. Kato came running up and jump in to my lap as Nate started the car.

I looked back at the giant house behind me. It was still and quiet. I expected to see someone come running out to stop us. Not a single light came on.

"You sure you wanna do this?" Nate asked?

I looked at my feet. I did have second thoughts. It was a stupid idea, but if we just stood around, doing nothing and let the bad men get away with what they are doing, we could be wishing we did something.

"Yes," I finally said. "This is the best option we have of saving Collin and finding out what these "rogues" are doing."

Nate nodded and pressed on the gas pedal. We sped off into the night, hoping and wishing our plan would work out.
