Collin's POV

Everyone stood around the open door, jaws dropped. Trinity stood outside the front door. She looked like a rich girl who just became homeless in less than 24 hours. Her eyes were bloodshot from crying and there was a small cut on her lip. Her clothes were covered in dirt and grime. Instead of wearing heels like she always did, beat-up white Adidas covered her feet.

"Trinity! What in the world are you doing here?" I hadn't noticed Keira had walked up behind me. I turned my head around to see anger in her eyes.

Trinity wiped away some tears before she spoke. "I'm sorry, but I had no where else to go!" She tried hard to not break down but she was very close to collapsing on the cement ground and cry.

I felt anger as I stood there watching her. She had kidnapped me and Nate and locked us in silver chains. She pretended to be our friend only to stick a gun to Keira's head and force her to follow her. She lied, cheated, and caused chaos to everyone here. I couldn't think of anyway to forgive her.

Baleigh seemed to be the only one who didn't look mad at Trinity. I saw in her blue eyes a bit of sadness. Very quickly, Baleigh grabbed Trinity by the arm and pulled her inside.

"What are you doing?" I asked my mate. Baleigh sat Trinity on a cushioned armchair in the living room. She grabbed a box of tissues they sat on a side table and handed them to Trinity.

"Baleigh, why are you helping her?" Keira asked angrily.

Baleigh ignored her. She had gone to the kitchen and grabbed a wet towel. She slowly wiped away some of the dirt that covered Trinity's face. Every so often, Trinity wiped some tears or blew her nose with the tissues.

"Seriously Baleigh," Keira yelled. "What the heck are you doing?"

Baleigh let out a sigh. "I'm helping her because she needs help. I know when someone is fake crying and when they are really upset. This isn't fake." She turned back to Trinity and continued to wipe the dirt away.

I was taken back by Baleigh's words. While everyone was yelling and shouting at Trinity, Baleigh was the only one to see through her.

"Trinity," Baleigh whispered softly. "Why are you here?"

Trinity sniffed. She wiped a tear away. I could see that just thinking about what had happened made her want to cry more. Sadly, there were no tears left for her to cry. Instead, she out on the bravest face she could muster to hide the pain.

"Jacob is dead."

It was hard for me not to burst out laughing and to tell her that no one cares, but the look on her face showed me that I should keep my mouth shut. Baleigh rubbed Trinity's back as more tears fell down her face. I looked over at Keira and saw that the anger in her eyes had dropped and were placed with sadness. Even Evelyn and Dr. Stone felt bad.

"What happened?" Baleigh asked.

Trinity wiped away some tears. "Our boss was angry for letting you guys escape. He was even more angry with Jacob. He blamed him for losing his 'prize.'"

"Prize? What prize?" Baleigh's dad asked.

I didn't know that Baleigh's dad had returned when I was kidnapped. Dr. Stone had explained to me while he was helping Nate why her dad came back and that it was believed her father never knew about the abuse attacks. I didn't trust her dad but I knew we couldn't get him to leave.

"I'm not entirely sure. All I know is that Baleigh is somehow important to him and he needs her."

"Needs me?" Baleigh looked shocked and scared. "What would he need me for?"

Trinity shook her head. "I don't know. But he was really mad at Jacob. I could hear them shouting in the hallway outside his office door. I wanted to get in and help Jacob but he said that it was his responsibility.

"Jacob always took the blame for my mistakes. I never wanted to help Jacob when I found out he was working for this mad man. I wanted to live my life as a normal girl with my mate. But Jacob wouldn't listen." Trinity broke down again. Baleigh gave her a hug as she cried. After a few minutes, Trinity calmed down.

"I was standing outside the door and I could hear them arguing. They were shouting at each other so much I could barely hear what they were saying. Suddenly, a- a gunshot was heard. Then it got silent. I panicked and ran before anyone noticed I was there. I knew they would be after me, so I came her."

Trinity couldn't take it anymore and cried some more. Keira rushed over to her and gave her a squeeze. I felt bad not helping out so I crouched down and gave her a pat on the shoulder.

"It's gonna be okay," I said.

Trinity just nodded and wiped her tears away. Half of the tissues were gone from the box. In Baleigh's lap were a bunch of tissues. I looked up and her and she gave me a shrug.

"I'm so sorry, Collin," Trinity said with a sniff. "I didn't want to hurt you, but Jacob said it was for the best. He promised everything would be okay if I did what I did."

"You did everything for him, didn't you?" I looked up at Trinity. Her brown eyes were more bloodshot than ever.

"And he did nothing for me," she said in a low whisper.

I sat up and stepped back. I thought about what Trinity had said. Jacob had made her work for someone she didn't want to work for. He had her help him kidnap Nate and I and lock us up in a cell. When Nate and Baleigh went to rescue me, Jacob told her to put a gun to Keira's head and bring her to the mansion. He made her do all of the things that she didn't want to do. And yet, we was willing to take the blame for her mistakes. He took a bullet for her so she could live her life the way she wanted to.

I looked down at Trinity. "He did everything for you," I said. "Even if it doesn't seem like much, he did everything."

A small smile appeared on Trinity's lips. I looked over at my mate. She was beaming at me. I felt better knowing that I helped Trinity, even if she did try to kill me.

Baleigh whispered something in Trinity's ear. She nodded and Baleigh sat up. She tossed the tissues in the trash and walked over to me.

"You did a good thing," she whispered to me.

I smiled. "Well, I felt like I had to do something. Otherwise you would probably kill me."

Baleigh chuckled. "Probably."

Evelyn and Keira helped Trinity up and headed her to a spare room. Dr. Stone and Baleigh's dad left to go check on Nate. Baleigh reached down and grabbed my hand. She gave my hand a squeeze.

"How did you know Trinity wasn't lying? I mean, you said you could tell the difference between fake crying and real crying, but how were you really able to tell?"

Baleigh watched Keira and Evelyn help Trinity up the stairs. "I've been through her situation. I know what it's like to lose someone and not know what to do." She turned to look at me.

"I lost my mom when I was five. My dad practically avoided me when she died. He barely noticed me, even when he wasn't trying to give me a black eye."

She turned towards me. "I guess I wanted to help someone who was hurting like me. I wanted to make someone fell like there was someone out there to help her."

"Someone like you," I said.

"Yeah. Someone like me."
