June.

I've been floating on cloud nine for the last few days, all of it thanks to a feisty little blond who asks the weirdest questions. Weird questions that I had so much fun answering. I could wake up every day at four am just to do it again and again, without getting bored of her.

My thoughts have been all Mavis the whole weekend and the excitement to see her in our shared class turned to disappointment when she didn't show up. She responded to my message rather coldly when I asked if she was okay, she just said she was fine no need to worry. So, I let her be. Didn't want to push her boundaries, she seems to like her alone time.

I don't understand how her head works, but I just know she has some self-destructive thoughts. The way she changes her demeanor from hot to cold is concerning, it's like the second she feels herself opening up too much she is quick to switch to her mean side and shut you out. I wouldn't lie and say it didn't sting, but at this point, I'm not backing down.

I want Mavis and all her shades of colors.

"June," Axel called my name and I just hummed in response, not looking up from my plate of lunch.

"I love California and California's girls," Jamie sighed by my side, and when I look at what had him daydreaming about Californian girls I shoved my elbow into his side.

There she was, Mavis in all her glory. She had some short cotton shorts, what looked like sports bra as a top but was just a very tiny shirt, covered by a zip-up hoodie, and some big black sunglasses. Her hair was up in a ponytail, and by the sneer on her pouty lips she looked angry, annoyed. She was looking for a table to sit at when she finally spotted an empty one, she settles down.

Fuck me if she didn't look hot as hell.

My feet shuffle, eager to run to her, but I stop myself. She doesn't look like she wants company. "Do you want to borrow a pair of balls? Or are you planning to sit here all day staring at her?" that was Axel, and I just wave him off and look back down at my lunch. "She doesn't want to be bothered and I'm not going to be the one who does."

"Well, looks like someone already beat you to it." Jamie says, and I drag my eyes back on her. My jaw clicks as I stare at the two morons trying to speak to her. She acts like they don't exist and apparently they took that as an invitation to sit down, one too close to her and one in front of her.

I bite down on nothing so hard, my teeth could shatter at any moment. "Still don't want to bother her?" My eyes snap to Axel, "shut up." I want to act, to go there and tell those two guys to fuck off. But the last time I tried to help her with something like this she told me it was none of my business.

But screw that, I am going to make it my business.

"They are my teammates," Jamie points out, and I stand up still looking at her but talking to him. "Let's go tell your teammates to back off before they get punched."

Might be my punch or might be hers, from how hard she was gripping that fork. The closer we get the clearer I see how tense her body is. She is pissed. We halt at the front of the table, but she doesn't look up from her plate and I don't say anything and let Jamie do the talking. "Hello guys, how about we give my friend over here some space."

"Oh Jamie, you know this pretty girl here?" one of the morons asks and the other adds, "why didn't you introduce us earlier? Always keeping the fine babes to yourself."

Her jaw was clamped shut but she looks up, right at me and I wish I could see her eyes. "Don't tell me they are your friends." her voice had an edge to it.

"They are not." I reply, not caring if they are right next to us. I've probably met them before, since they are Jamie's teammates but I couldn't care less about them. My focus is only on her and what she is about to do or say, I know She can handle herself therefore I don't want to react unless shit goes south. Me being here is out of jealousy, and maybe to help her smack the tray of lunch in the fucker's face.

She looks back at them and takes a deep breath before opening her mouth to end their lives. "Before you decide to speak to a girl again, for the love of God get a new haircut because that" she points at the blonde guy's hair and finishes, "is a crime against humanity." she looks at the guy next to her, "and you, just delete yourself from the face of earth. You are a big waste of space and oxygen."

The two guys look baffled, utterly surprised until the weight of her words finally down on them and the bruised ego turns their surprise into anger. "Fucking bitch," "what the fuck did you just say?"

"Watch your fucking mouth." the words left my mouth in a tone I couldn't recognize myself, when their gazes turned to me. If they didn't get the message from what I said, they got it from my scowl. They stood up and the one who was sitting next to her looked between us when he says, "you should watch her, doesn't look like the faithful type to me."

She scoffs, "calling me a whore and running away like a little bitch is not going to fix your bruised ego."

He glowers at her and takes a threatening step forward and I take one just the same before his friends pull his arm away. He takes one last glare at us before they leave.

"Men," she mumbles angrily and takes a bite of her salad, then she looks up at me and Jamie and Axel who I know were standing a few feet away behind. "Are you going to stand up there and watch me eat the whole time?"

I say nothing and she just sighs in exhaustion, "sit down, June."

I sit down and just wonder what's going on behind those sunglasses. I forgot about my friends until Jamie talked, "can June's friends sit down too?"

"I thought I was your friend over here?" She exclaims nonchalantly, and he just chuckles and slides down the bench. "You've got a sense of humor, ice princess," She scrunches her nose and I didn't know something like that could be adorable. "don't call me that."

I can't help it but let my eyes roam her body, and that's when I notice the red scratches behind her neck, the side of her stomach too, but most of it is hidden behind the jacket. Her head snaps up from her lunch and looks at Axel who was still hovering a few feet away, trying to seem busy on his phone. "Do you need an invitation?"

His eyes meet her covered ones and he calmly marches his way over and sits down. "You seem irritated, don't want you biting my dick off."

"I'm nowhere going near that shit, you're safe."

I don't know what to say to her, I don't know what to say at all. It's like I've lost my words and I don't even know why. I just keep openly gaping at her like a creep, trying to survey anything wrong with her. And everything is. I thought it was the guys' presence that made her uncomfortable, that's why her shoulders were tense, but they are gone and she is still gripping that fork as if she was about to break it in two.

"So why are you dressed like a celebrity trying to avoid the paparazzi?" Axel asks boldly, and Jamie adds giddily, "you look hot, I dig it."

I almost bang my head against the table because of them. I need new friends.

"Glad you dig the 'don't speak to me and leave me alone' look" she answers and sips her drink. She is trying to play it cool, avoiding questions. I see right through her. She is uneasy in her own skin.

Axel leans in, eyeing her from head to toe and then his eyes flick to me, enough for him to see that I didn't appreciate him looking at her like that before his gaze was back on her, a small smirk playing on his lips. "You don't blend in easily, got to cover up more."

"I'm barely keeping this jacket on, people need to mind their business."

"Nale texted, he said to meet him by the entrance," I say to them, hoping to God they get the message and leave us alone. Axel look told he got it but Jamie is Jamie of course, "what? I thought he said to-" before he could end his sentence Axel was already dragging his ass up.

He looked at Mavis and gestured to me with his chin, "don't bite his dick off."

Her head slowly turns my way, as if she was dreading this moment. "Take the glasses off, Mavis."

She sighed, "I knew you were too quiet." she took them off and her now bloodshot brown eyes were staring right back at me. She looks high, but she isn't. She actually looks like she hasn't slept in a week, and it was probably that. "haven't slept in a week." it's like she read me like an open book.

"I thought you said you get some hours of sleep?" my question had her gaze dropping from mine to my chest, she slid closer and her hand grazed my collarbone where she tucked out my silver necklace out, toying with the moon medallion with her slender fingers. For a second, with her so close and her scent so overwhelming, I almost forgot what I was asking her. "Pretty,"

She smells like caramel and vanilla.

"Who gave it to you?" she was looking up through her eyelashes, and I felt my heart speed up and my dick, that's another thing I don't want to think about. "I bought it for myself."

I barely had the words out, acting like a virgin pre-teen. "Really?"

I close my eyes, take a deep breath and reopen them. She was still as close but I had to get my shit together. "You're avoiding my question, Mavis."

She holds my stare, long enough for me to see the conflicted war of feelings behind them. But she shrugs away, choosing to avoid the truth and hide. "I guess I jinxed it."

I'm willing to give her a part of me if that's what she needs to give me a tiny glimpse of her reality.

"Follow me."

"To where?"

"Trust me."
