Mavis.

I hate college.

No, because I despise every second of it. The people, the professors, the assignments and the exams. I can't find one good thing to like in this whole place, and I'm only doing this for my parents because they paid a shit ton of money for this, and getting that degree is the least I could do to make them proud. At least I won't be a total fuck up.

I also hate waiting for my classes. I'm bored and hungry, tired because I haven't slept In two days expect for a small nap I took.  And to make it better, it's so hot today. A beach day, except I don't like the beach. June would be outraged if he knew, he loves it. I just hate how the sand sticks to my skin. I remember having a total meltdown when I was a kid, I ruined the whole day for everyone.

Sometimes I'm so mad at myself, I feel like I've ruined so my many stuff for my brothers. So many ruined vacations and memories. It makes me think they only put up with it because I'm their blood, I wouldn't even blame them if they cut me off.

But it did sting when they went away for college, I miss them a lot and since Arden got drafted he is even busier and doesn't have much time for me. Wren calls and texts me weekly but not Arden and when he does I don't respond because I'm bitter.

I feel the bench dip as someone sits next to me. I ignore them, not taking my eyes off my phone, scrolling through my playlist to pass the time. the stranger speaks, "hey," I don't reply, nor look at them. But they don't take the hint as he chuckles, "Mavis, it's me." I lift my head at the mention of my name to find Jamie sitting next to me with his arm curled behind the bench and a leg over another. His sandy hair was pulled over his boyish face.

"What are you doing here?"

He shrugs but his grin doesn't drop. "I was just passing by and saw you. thought I would say hi." I narrow my eyes at him. my trust issues are kicking in, thinking he probably wants something from me or, "did June send you?"  his face fell, a frown adorned his eyebrows. "No, why would he? Is it hard to believe that I just wanted to speak to you?"

"Yes, it is. Now, what do you want?"

"Well, I do want something." there it is, I knew it. "What?"

"June doesn't want to tell me details about your date, so tell me did you guys kiss?" I blink once, twice, even three times downing down his question. "You want to know if we kissed? That's it?" he only nods, seeming eager to know. I don't know, this seems weird. And why didn't June tell him. "

So?" he adds and I cock my head to the side. "Why didn't June tell you?"

"Because he refuses to tell us anything about you, he wants you all to himself." he sighed dramatically, "he is selfish, I also want to be your friend." I tilt my head to the side, surprised and confused. "You want to be my friend?"

"Yeah, I do." he replies with excitement.

"And you do because?"

"You seem cool, I like your vibe."

He likes my vibe. I don't know what he means by that, because I haven't been the nicest to him or his friends for that matter. "And why do you want to know if we kissed?" his big grin is back on his face as he fully turns to face me. "I'm invested in you guys' relationship. I mean You are the literal opposite of each other, I wanna know the details." when I don't respond he adds, "I know that makes me noisy, but I can't help it."

My mouth twitched in amusement, he is a weird kind of guy. At first glance you would say he is the player type, with his charming grin and the way he pulls his hair our of his eyes. But the way he speaks, and moves his hand in agitation is funny. I somehow believe him, he is also a close friend of June which makes it easier. "Yes, we did kiss."

"Ha!" he yelps, and a few people passing by stared at us weirdly. "I knew it. How was it tho? Did you instigate it? Or did he? You probably did, or else he would have never done it." he likes to gossip, he wants all the details. "I told him to kiss me."

He hums with a smirk dancing on his lips. "I like it, you are bold." Well that's new. Usually it's you're a bitch, It's refreshing. "Thanks, I guess."

"So, you like him?" he asks, and I stare at him for a moment thinking he would know that his question was stupid. "I went on a date with him, I think it's pretty obvious."

he shrugs, and lean on the chair. "Well, some girls go out with guys out of pity." Folding my arms, I also lean back. "Do I look like a girl who takes pity on men? Or that I would do anything that I don't want to?"

He chuckles, nodding in agreement. "Fair enough." he suddenly slide closer to me. Putting his face in front of mine as he deeply stares, suddenly all serious. "He really really likes you, Mavis. I know he is a grown man and knows what he is doing, but I see him as a brother and I know that sometimes he can be too nice, he lets people get away with a lot of stuff. I'm not telling you to stay away from him, just treat him right. There aren't two people like June."

"I know," of course, I know. He is a special person to many people. I can't blame them, I haven't know him for so long but he already made a big impact on my life, like he must have done for his friends. He deserves more than me, but for once I'm willing to give it a try. To be a better person for him. "I also like him, and I will try to not hurt him." not intentionally for that matter.

"Try?" he quirks his head in question.

"Listen, I know you're just looking out for your friend, but I've got some issues that I can't not control at the moment, June already knows that. I warned him and told him to stay away from but he was adamant about proving me wrong. He deserves better than me but I will do my best and try to be worth his time and efforts."

It's quiet for a moment before he says, "alright, I believe you. I have a good feeling about you. Mavis."

"Glad I live up to your standards, Jamieson. He laughs, "my name is James," I just shrug. "Jamieson sounds better."

He was about to respond when his eyes caught something behind me and he swore. "Shit," he suddenly looks stressed and nervous. His gaze darted to me and in panic he said, "text June, tell him to come here and to bring Axel with him."

"Why would I do that?" I ask and he snaps, "just do it, it's urgent."

he keeps looking behind me as I type the message telling June I'm with Jamie and that he needs him here, adding he says it's urgent. I look behind me to find Three tall big men strolling toward us with angry expressions on their faces. I look back at Jamie, "what did you do?" his leg was bouncing, and his energy completely shifts. "I accidentally fucked that guy fiancé," he points to the one in the middle who looked like he was about to murder Jamie,

"How do you accidentally fuck someone's fiancè?" I inquire still looking at them. They look old, not college boys. Maybe twenty-eight or something close to that. "I didn't know."

"You didn't know you were fucking her? Were you drunk?" I ask again,

"I didn't know she was engaged." he deadpanned. ah, yeah make sense. I face him again, and he looked scared. "Why are you scared? You can't fight?" he gestures to his face, "this is too pretty to get fucked up," and then gestures to the length of his body. "And this is too precious, I need to play football."

"So yeah exactly what I said. You can't fight." he glares at me, but then slowly nodded. "Yeah, I'm a lover not a fighter." I smile and hear the angry steps get closer to us. "Well buckle up lover boy, you are about to get fucked."

"Thanks for the support," he mutters just in time as the three men stand in front of us. The one in the middle almost spat the words, "get up,"

Jamie put his easy posture back in place as he smiles. "Not even a hello, Andrew." the guy only glares harder, and Jamie's grin only widens. He is a good actor. "I don't have time for your games, you ran away last time you're not running away this time. Be a man and stand your ground."

I couldn't help the snort escaping me. His head whips to me and he looks like he just noticed me. "Who are you?"

I ignore him and look at Jamie. "You are threatened by a man named Andrew?" Jamie's eyes widen as he his the words. "Stop it," I twist my head to look the Andrew guy up and down as I say, "he looks like he replaced his few brain cells with muscles, doesn't look very threatening to me. Just pretty dumb."

"Who the fuck do you think you are talking to?" my eyes meet his angry ones as I say, "I wasn't talking to you but rather about you. And thank you for proving my point."

"For the love of God, Mavis shut up." I ignore Jamie, of course and continue, "What I don't understand is why is an old man trying to fight a twenty-one years old guy? You look ready to start playing bingo,"

"I'm only twenty-seven and he slept with my fiancè, but I don't see how is that any of your fucking business," he says through gritted teeth.

Yeah, it is none of my business but it's happening in front of me I might as well try to help. I can not fight off three guys but I can gain us some time. I know exactly how to get under men's skin. They are way more sensitive than they think. I gasp, "twenty-seven? With that decreasing hairline, you are about to be fifty." I hear Jamie's laugh but he quickly masks it up with a cough.

Andrew glower at Jamie and ask, "if she is your new whore, tell her to shut her trap before it gets ugly." Jamie's face dropped at the insult but before he could interfere I do. "Does that mean your fiancè was his old whore? Tsk, you shouldn't be shaming your own girl, maybe she was just trying to find a man who gives her a good time and doesn't last two minutes."

He takes a threatening step forward "you fucking cunt-" but Jamie is quick on his feet as he stands in front of me, putting out of view. "This is between us, leave her out of it."

"well her to shut the fuck up and watch what she says, she is getting on my nerves."

"Don't be sensitive we all have our faults," I call out, and he tries to round Jamie to get to me but he moves head to head with him. "Are you seriously going to hit a girl?"

I can't see his expression, but he looks like the kind of guy who would say if they want equal rights I can hit her. "She is a bitch, deserves to be reminded of her place." I loudly laugh, making sure he heard me. "Now, It's clear why your girl cheated on you." I stand up, staring right at him, "it's embarrassing that you're still fighting for a girl who doesn't want you."

he lifts his hand to strike me but it's blocked off by someone else."Back the fuck off,"

June is at my side, scowling at the man. He looks angry, with ragged breath as if he run here. Just behind were Axel and Nale. Andrew snatches his hand away, "she is your bitch?" Axel take a step forward and pushes him in the chest making him stumble backward. "Call her that again, I dare you."

One of the dudes that came with him finally spoke up, "it's none of your business, we are here for him." gesturing to Jamie. "And who are you? For all I know he fucked his girl, not yours." Axel asks and the two guys' jaws tick. "We are her brothers." ah, shit. This is getting messy. But stupid too.

"No one needs to fight anyone," there goes my Juniper trying to keep the peace, he is so cute. Hold up, where the hell did that come from. "It was a misunderstanding, he didn't know she was taken you can't blame that on him."

"Yeah, you should blame your cheating hoe of a fiancè," that was from Axel, and June quickly send him a glance that told him to shut up. I haven't noticed he has moved so close to me, I'm half hiding behind him now. "There is nothing to talk or fight about, what's done is done. Let's just move on with our lives."

"I'm not moving anywhere until I beat the shit out of him." Andrew state, crossing his arms over his chest. I roll my eyes and lean my head on June's arm. I'm getting tired.

"Do you know how stupid you sound?" his eyes travel down to me, and I could also feel June's gaze. "Like your girlfriend cheated on you and your trying to fight the dude who didn't know. And for what?"

He is quiet for a moment, before he says. "For her honor." I burst out laughing, muffling my mouth in June's clothes. "You're not fighting for anyone's honor. It's because of your pride you dumb fuck,"

"Mavis," June warns me, but I dismiss him as I stand taller and take a step forward. "You are doing this because your ego can't take it. But what your stupid brain don't understand is that your are only making it worst. Fighting for a girl who doesn't give two fucks about you, makes you look pathetic and miserable."

I'm surprised I haven't been hit yet, the four guys standing so close behind me are probably the reason so. "Pick up what's left of your pride and go home, Dude. Have a good cry and find yourself someone to hug, you look like you need one."

"Well, shit.," I don't know who says that, but I agree. I probably went too far, but that how I am. Once, I'm launched there is no coming back. But I'm surprised, I think everyone is when the guy steps away and unfolds his arms. He gives me one long stare before looking at Jamie, "you better hope I never see you again."

And they actually leave. All three of them were gone without a word.

"Holy fuck," this time it was Jamie who looks at me with his mouth wide agape. Nale strolled in front of me with a small smile curving on his lips. "I never knew provocation could make someone run away." I shrug, Axel shakes his head. "You're something else."

I look at June, who only stares at me with an unreadable look. I don't have time to think about it when I'm engulfed into a hug by Jamie. "Next time I get into a fight it's you I'm calling." he is pushed away from me and I'm pulled into a hard chest, I crane my neck to look at June and he asks, "What?"

I shake my head and smile. "Nothing." You just look cute when jealous.
