June.

I am a little worried.

It's not usual for Mavis to call and ask me to pick her up out of the blue, and what's even more concerning was her tone of voice. She sounded upset, and for as long as I recall I haven't done anything that I remember upset her. We were on good terms just a few hours ago, and she said she was baking muffins.

She bakes when she is in a good mood, not when she is mad. I can't imagine the disaster it would be if she tried baking while angry, eggs would be flying around if they didn't crack right.

But jokes aside, I am worried. And just I turned on her street I saw her by the sidewalk arguing with a guy. I can't see her face as she was facing away, but when he tells her something she kicks him in the knee and walk away.

I can't help but smile, that's my girl.

She saw my car and she starts walking faster but the guy was hot on her heels and he grabs her arm to stop her again. Parking in the middle of the road, I'm out of my car in a heartbeat. "Let go of her,"

The guy's eyes stir my way, and he seems ready to tell me to piss off, but Mavis snatches her hand away. "Go back and give your brother his welcome kiss, and stay out of my business,"

She walks toward me and I open her car seat, my gaze still on the guy. I'm confused about who he is, but then he smiled. "You're the boyfriend," it wasn't a question, but rather an affirmation.

"I am."

His smile didn't waver, rather his gaze flicked to Mavis before going back to me. "Good luck, Man. You've got Satan herself on your hands,"
Mavis flicked him off and he only chuckled and walked away.

Well, this was weird.

"My brother," she said as I settled on the car seat. Her arms were folded, a permanent scowl on her face and her leg is bouncing. "Arden?" I ask and fasten her seat belt. She shakes her head, "Wren,"

"I thought Wren was the one you got along with?" I kiss her temple and she pouts, now I can't help but peck her lips too. Did I ever mention that she has the most divine lips I've ever seen or kissed? If I didn't then I should have.

"He is, but today he decided to be a jerk," she grumbles and angrily swipes away a strand of hair. Settling back in my seat, I start the drive. "What did he do?"

And from there she went on a rant about how he surprised her earlier by coming home for spring break, and that he kept teasing her but it was okay because she missed him. But then Arden also came and decided to act like an ignorant asshole after not coming home for almost a year and ignoring her unless it was convenient for him to call her and order her around. She then stormed out of the house after arguing with him and Wren followed her and told her to go back in and settle her issues with Arden.

Mavis hates being told what to do, and she will only settle this grudge against Arden is if he did the first step and apologize. She obviously misses him a lot, that's why she is so mad. But I don't blame Wren, he is finally home after a long time, and he wants his siblings on speaking terms.

After parking the car on the side road of a beach, I turn to Mavis and ask, "Okay, my love do you want me to be honest or take your side?"

She quirks an eyebrow, "how about both? Unless you think I'm wrong, do you think I'm wrong, June? Am I overreacting and being a bitch?"

"My goodness, Mavi, no, I didn't say you were wrong nor that you're overreacting. What I meant is that I could give you my honest opinion that you might not like, or I could call your brother an asshole and call it a day,"

She pursues her lips, "I kind of like the second option,"

I smile, "Mavis,"

She rolls her eyes and sighs, "alright alright, hit me with your wise man speech,"

"Well, you have every right to be mad at him, you feel left out and that he doesn't care enough to visit more often. But the real reason that you're so mad at him is that you miss him, Mavis, and you want to make up with him and have your old relationship back."

"I don't-" I squish her face and she glares, "don't interrupt me, I'm not done," she bites the side of my finger and I let off her face with a chuckle. "You being mean to him and avoiding him instead of confronting him about what's really upsetting you, isn't going to solve your problems. And I know you want him to do the first step, but some men can be pretty clueless when it comes to women,"

She is quiet for a moment, narrowing her eyes at me and then crossing her arms. "You're being logical, I don't like it."

I laugh. "Come on let's get out and let the wind blow your thoughts into logic,"

"No, I'm wearing sandals and I will get sand between my toes and I hate that," she complains, staring at her feet and then at me. There is no send here, we are by the border of the road and the beach is down there. But I'm not going to argue with her on that. "How about I carry you and put you on top of the car's porch?"

She thinks it through for a second then agrees.  I exit the car, walk to her side and she jumps into my arm the moment I open her door. Her legs circle my waist and I suddenly don't want to put her down. "What if the wind makes the sand stick to my skin?"

"I will dust it off you,"

Propping her on the porch, her legs dangle on the edge of the car as she stares at the ocean. "He looks like a stranger now," she is probably talking about Arden, and I don't interrupt her. I just stand close by tracing shapes into her palm. "And I hated that I recognized how much I missed him when I saw him, that I couldn't help but be angry about it."

"It's okay for you to miss him, it's not something bad." her gaze flickers back on me, and she bites her bottom lip in worry. "I know,  but how poorly I've handled it annoys. I'm supposed to go forward not backward, maybe he is right,"

"Hey," I kiss her knuckles, "he isn't right, that was an asshole thing to say and maybe you had instigated it but it still doesn't make it right."

"You also called me a brat when we first met," her lips twitch in amusement, as she remembers one of our first encounters. Yeah, I did call her a brat, but I didn't know half of what she has been through. And she can be rough on the edges but inside my Mavis is as sweet as candy. "I was an idiot, and so is your brother for not seeing that you still care about him,"

She smiles, and It's better than any sunset I've seen. "I like it when you're on my side better than when you're being logical,"

"I will always be on your side," I lean in and kiss her cheek, but before I could pull away she pulls me in, "another one," I kiss her nose, and she frowns but her smile doesn't falter, "try again," this time I kiss her forehead and she groans, "stop playing with me,"

I laugh but the sound is quickly swallowed by her mouth. I couldn't help but keep smiling and that upset her which resulted in her biting my lower lip. "Ow!"

"That's what you get for not kissing me properly," she asserts, mischievous glint burning in her eyes. She looks absolutely stunning, the way the sunlight kisses her tan skin her glow like actual sunshine. I try to tame her wild hair, but the wind wasn't helping, and it made her even more gorgeous. "You look beautiful,"

She rolls her eyes, "stop lying, I look ridiculous,"

"How do you know, you can't even see yourself," I argue and she swat my hand away from her hair and made a gesture to it. "I don't have to look, I know how I looked before I left the house. And this stupid wind isn't helping,"

"Well, I say that you look beautiful,"

"Kiss ass," she prompts and I pinch her ass making her yelp. "I will bite that ass,"

"Ooh, somebody is getting bold," she smirks. hooking an arm around my neck, she brings me closer that I'm standing in between her legs. "Careful with what you say, I might agree,"

We are in public, we are in public, we are in public.

But there is no one around. No, someone could pass by, the road is empty but it's still a road. We are in a public space, and I can not think about how great her ass would be to bite.

Well, fuck me. I just thought about it.

"June," she whispers my name.

"Yeah?"

"Are you being a pervert again?" she is teasing. her lips were close to my ear as she says, "are you being naughty?"

I do have tinted car windows.

"Mavis," my voice sounded shaky, almost breaking. I've never been so weak in the knees for a girl, but damn it the power she has over me is crazy.

"Hmm?" she hums against my neck, and I'm losing all my senses but the feel of her lips. "Should I stop?" good question. She should, but I don't want her to. But before I could answer, she pulls away. With an evil grin she brushes my hair away, "it's getting long," she tugs slightly on the ends.

"Yeah, should I cut it?" I ask and she shakes her head. "No, I love it."

Yeah, I'm never cutting it.

"I want ice cream," she exclaims, suddenly.

"Then ice cream we shall get," I kiss her pretty mouth before carrying her inside the car.
