Chapter 19

Athena

June 30th 3:25 pm (three weeks later)

Location: Bay's Home in Chino

"Do you think he is on to us?" I asked following behind Jose as he went into the kitchen. Over the three weeks I had grown to gain all of Wark's trust and I had to admit I was more than surprised, I thought when I told him I was a celibate the plan was done for but no he called me the next day saying that he was sorry for how he reacted and that he understood and was willing to these are his words, 'cope with my decision', could you believe it he acted as though being celibate was going to be the hardest thing for him.

"This man is head over heels in love with you, that white boy is blinded by your culo." He waved a dismissive hand and took out all the ingredients to make a sandwich.

I picked the imaginary lint from my jeans, "Oh well whatever you just said I highly doubt that." Sighing she shook her head, "But he is going to Jacksonville and he hasn't called me or texted me."

"Well maybe it's just that he doesn't want you to know about Bean and Dean." He slathered on the mayonnaise.

I placed a hand on my hip, "I do need to know about Bean and Dean."

"Don't make it obvious, all you have to do is just ask when he gets back how was Jacksonville." He shrugged placing more than enough of meat on the bread.

"It's Jacksonville what in the hell is in Jacksonville!"

"I don't know maybe there is some kickass mall or something." He slid the plate in front of me, "Now eat obstinado." (stubborn)

"I'm no-"

I started but he interrupted with, "Eat you haven't had anything all day."

He was right and he wasn't going to go away until I ate the stupid sandwich, trust me I had been in this spot on more than one occasion, "Did you have to put so much meat and mayo on it, I mean I am fine with the meat but the mayo," I made a gagging sound, "Mayo taste like shit, it has no taste."

"Mayo has a lot of calories and carino," He gave me a once over, "you need it." (sweetheart)

I followed his gaze and frowned, "Why would I need mayo?"

He flicked my head, "Your losing weight."

"What's the problem then?" I took a bite of the sandwich ignoring the bland taste of mayo.

"Chica, you don't need to be losing weight your body is perfect."

I ate the sandwich, Tre had always led me to believe that I my body was far from perfect and I believed him and that was why my appetite was gone, because for three years I thought my body was not enough, it was crazy about how much a person's rule over you could change the way you thought of yourself. I never thought of myself as low as I did before Tre, I mean I didn't think of myself as the baddest bitch but I didn't think I was the lowest form of life.

"I never did understand why you responded to Tre, you could have the guy with the good credit you didn't have to be involved in this life."

That was laughable, even though I wasn't the holiest person, I knew that God did things for a reason, granted it wasn't supposed to go this far, but I knew that this life was meant for me, danger and I went hand in hand all of my life.

I ate the last piece of the sandwich and held the empty plate to show him, "Done."

"Good," He paused for a moment before continuing, "I talked to Bay."

And it was like all the air in the room left, just when I thought that I was over and done with him, all it took was the mention of his name to bring me back to the feelings that I couldn't fucking accept. Me being Bay free was never going to exist, no matter how much I pushed him to the back of my mind or avoided the topic of him he would always be there.

"Did you tell him that we have nothing." I put the plate in the sink and washed the dish.

"Yes, and he briefed me all of what's going on back there."

"Is everything okay?"

"Yeah the hitmen stopped coming."

I scrunched my eyebrows, how could they just stop, was Wark done with losing his men or was there something else, the paranoia from the fact that he knows is what scared the hell out of me. I mean it was clear over the weeks that Wark could give a shit about his men, it seemed like they were only shields for him. I kept my concerns to myself, he probably had so much shit going on back there he didn't need to hear about my paranoid thoughts.

"Goo-" My phone buzzed against the counter causing the next words to come out of my mouth to quickly become unimportant, I picked the phone up to see it was Wark.

"Do you think you can watch my house while I'm gone it will only be for two days?"

"Who is that?"

I looked up from the phone, "It's Wark he wants me to house sit while he is away."

"Now if he knew about the plan do you really think he would want you to house sit?" He smirked.

Before we could further with the conversation there was a pair of heels clicking against the floor I immediately pulled the gun from underneath the sink and Jose pulled his from his holster.

Camila appeared and she put her hands up, "Ay maldita puta!" (Oh, fucking bitch)

I put the gun on the counter and smiled, "Camila what are you doing here?"

"Well I flew myself out here because a bitch was bored back at home." She kissed Jose on the cheek and hugged me.

"Does Bay know?" Jose put his gun back in his holster.

She smacked her teeth, "Yes, beso culo, he does know." (kiss ass)

"I am not a kiss ass I just don't want him to chew my culo out because of you." He adjusted his tie.

She blew him a kiss, "Te amo también José." (I love you Jose)

"Whatever."

"Now what were you two talking about, before this bad bitch came in and made your days?" She grabbed a soda out of the refrigerator.

"House sitting, I have to house sit for Wark while he is away at Jacksonville." I drummed both my index fingers against the counter. Camila wasn't a threat, her vibe said otherwise, she didn't have to tell me for me to know that she was prostitute, I found out the night when she left with Bay, so she couldn't have been Wark's mole, ironically, she was too pure to belong to Wark and that was why I didn't have a problem telling her.

"Good luck with that chica, at least you're not going to have to be around him." She took a gulp of her drink.

"Shit for the first time I actually want to be around his ass." I rubbed my temples, all of this thinking that was going across my mind was starting give me a head ache.

"You need to sort out your thoughts."

"Why?" Camila raked a finger through her hair.

"Because I can't get anything with no one there."

"Chica every man keeps his secrets trapped at home, their so dumb that they don't think to at least keep them in their car," She pointed a finger at me, "this is your time to capitalize off of this."

"She is right, maybe you can figure who the mole is, if a man can keep a hundred thousand dollars in his house and tell Florida hillbillies to send him a ton of cocaine, he is liable to keep that type of shit in his spot."

I opened the text message and texted:

"Just tell me when."

May 2nd 10:30 am

Location: Wark's Home

I swear this place looked even more beautiful in the morning and with no people, Wark had showed me around before he left and I fell in love with the place, I probably would never want to leave this place if I didn't know who it belonged to.

"There's a problem look to your left."

I turned my head slightly and a camera greeted me, I turned my head to the right and another camera greeted me, this couldn't be. I walked around the house once more and noticed that almost every room had a rotating camera, this place was secured down to the max.

"Since it's wired nine times out of ten it's going to be bugged, Wark is paranoid as hell you should have known this wasn't going to be easy."

I should have known but I was hoping for once in my life that something was actually going to be easy, pulling out my phone I shot Jose a quick text, "How can you tell if a place is bugged?" I had to know if it was true and if it was really bugged because if it was I had to figure out a way to trick the bug and see when the rotation changed.

"Why would he bug the place?"

I turned my head to the camera, it turned but I didn't know how long it took for it to turn, letting out an aggravated sigh I replied, "Just tell me."

It took him a few minutes to respond, "Take a call, but when you take a call make sure you put it to the place where you think the bug is and if you hear a clicking sound on the call you found your bug."

I put my phone in my back pocket, If I was going to get any information out of this house I had to do it at night but I had to know about the rotation of the cameras and exactly where all of the bugs were. I walked to the kitchen and I sat at the table pretending to look at something on my phone, I had to look as if I was just a normal girl who was house sitting, except I had two problems. One, I wasn't normal and two, I never house sat.

"It shouldn't be that hard, people fake to be normal all the time."

Finally, being bored with looking at blank screen I got up and walked to the refrigerator, the camera moved and I took out my phone and quickly set the timer. I pulled out the first thing I saw which was an apple.

Closing the refrigerator, I looked at the camera to see that it was still turned, I wondered if he had a room for control of the security cameras, he to have one. The camera then turned back to me I turned away before it could catch me staring, with a tap of the finger, the timer was turned off.

"23.004 seconds."

My eyes damn neared bugged out of my head I had twenty-three seconds to find a bug, I had to admit that it was pretty smart, it gave the system enough time to catch all what happens and quickly changing to the next just before anyone could think of doing anything, it had to be the top of the top, the lens probably have HD footage and I bet you if it was filming at night the quality would be impeccable.

Finishing the apple, I threw it in the trash, I set th12e timer again and on cue the camera changed, I ran to the living room making sure the camera didn't catch me, I was met with the same camera but like the other one it was turned, how could he put both security cameras on the same time were they all like this?

I repeated the same thing to every room that had a camera in it, and my theory proved right, all of the cameras had the exact same timer, even though it wasn't a wide window it was still cracked and as soon as these twenty-three seconds were up I was going to find that damn bug. I dialed the number quickly and waited patiently for the camera to change and when it did I pressed the call button, I scanned the walls anything that looked small enough to fit a bug.

When the timer went off I turned on the tv and sat on the couch, I came up with nothing absolutely nothing and I had plenty of more rooms to go.
