The Bad Girl Sleeps In My Bed ❁ Chapter Sixteen

Hollie's eyes flicker to mine when she notices me standing by her bed. She lifts her body up a little and winces as pain shoots through her body. Hollie places a hand onto her stomach. She looks up at me again.

"What happened?"

"You were shot by some asshole," I reply. "The guy escaped before we had a chance to see who he was." I grab her shoulder and pull her against my torso, hugging her tightly. "I was so damn worried about you," I murmur. "I thought you're gonna die or something."

Hollie chuckles, "I'm not going to die, Levi. No one can kill me."

I release her when a doctor walks into the room. He opens Hollie's chart and writes down some things as he looks at Hollie's pulse and blood pressure.

"Ms. O'Connor, how are you feeling?" He asks.

"My stomach hurts a little," Hollie confesses. "But other than that, I'm okay."

"The morphine should take care of the pain any time now. If you're wondering about the surgery then you should know that your heart stopped many times but we managed to save you." The doctor takes a few steps closer to Hollie's bed and sits on the edge. "I just have one question for you; do you drink a lot of alcohol? Because you should know that your liver is in a very bad state already. I'm not going to even ask if you smoke since when they brought you in, you reeked of cigarettes. As your doctor I advise you to stop before it's too late. I don't want to see a young girl like you dying."

Hollie places her head down in shame, "Yeah, I do smoke and drink."

"You should consider going to therapy," The doctor says softly. "You have a chance to stop all of this madness before it's too late." He stands up and grabs Hollie's chart before walking towards the door.

"Doctor, when does she get released from here?" I ask.

"If all goes well, then in a week or so." He smiles and heads out.

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

Just like the doctor said, Hollie got out about five days later. I made sure to pick her up from the hospital since I doubt her parents would come.

Hollie signed the release papers and we walked out and headed to my car. The weather's extremely nice today and Diego suggested we go to his house, swim and have a small barbeque. Of course Hollie can't swim with the cut on her stomach but I'm sure she doesn't mind sitting at the table and eating all of the food.

We arrive at Diego's house—I've never been there in my life, by the way—and I'm surprised as I look at the huge mansion in front of me. I knew Diego's parents were quite wealthy but I never expected him to live in such a house. The gatekeeper lets us in when he sees Hollie and I park my Mercedes behind the black Maserati in front of the house. Once we get out, Diego greets us at the door and let's us come in.

I look around the huge foyer, amazed by the beautiful interior in this house. There's a huge chandelier hanging from the high ceiling and a lot of portraits of Diego's family are hanging on the walls. There's even a portrait of Diego.

He leads us to the garden and in the middle there's a huge pool that's surrounded by a patio. A few older looking ladies are carrying food to the table. Diego throws a pair of swimming trunks and a towel at me.

"You can change in the guest house over there," he points to a small house. "Leave your clothes there and afterwards you can get them." I follow Diego's orders and change my clothes quickly. Diego has given me a pair of black swimming trunks and luckily they fit me pretty well. I take my watch off of my wrist, as it isn't waterproof and place it on top of my clothes. Before heading out, I use the bathroom quickly and look at myself in the mirror once. I didn't have like an eight pack or anything but I was slightly toned in my abdomen area and that was good enough for me, considering I don't work out as much as professional athletes. Pizza is more important than staying fit, anyway.

Hollie doesn't care about your body, Levi. Just go outside and have fun. You're not a girl—you don't have to worry about how your body looks in front of Hollie.

Pushing away the slightly negative thoughts, I head outside and see Diego in the pool already. My eyes flicker to the tattoo on his left forearm—it's a tattoo of an eagle and some other things.

I wonder what that means.

I grin when I see Hollie sitting by the table, stuffing her face with the pepperoni pizza Diego has ordered. She flicks her hair over her shoulder and that's when she notices me. A smile appears on her face as she eyes me up and down.

That's right. Look at my abs.

Running towards the pool, I jump cannon-ball style into the pool, splashing Diego in the face. He rubs his eyes to get the chlorine out of them and sends me a death glare.

"Thank you for that. I really enjoy having chemicals in my eyes."

"You're welcome," I snicker.

We swim for about 40 minutes and once we're done with that, we join Hollie at the table and eat some food. I look up when I see a flash going off. Hollie is giggling to herself as she does something on her phone. I'm praying I don't look like a complete ogre on the picture she took. Some pictures of me could put Shrek to shame; I have some ugly angles to my face.

"What are we gonna do now?" Hollie asks, shoving the last piece of pizza into her mouth. Diego shrugs as he pulls out a cigarette from the packet on the table. Hollie grabs one as well and lights it. I give her a stern look. Her doctor told her a few days ago how her health is terrible and how she's going to die young if she continues her life the way she has been living it for the past 16 years but to me it just seems that Hollie doesn't give a fuck about that.

"We can just walk around town," I suggest. "Maybe get some coffee and macaroons and just enjoy the rest of this beautiful day."

"Sounds like a plan. But you're paying."

"Yeah, I'm not really feeling it," Diego says as he rubs the back of his neck. "I already made plans with Elise for the night. I can't just let her down." Diego and Elise have been spending a lot of time together recently. If I didn't know better then I'd say that they like each other but they're probably too shy to admit it. It's weird thinking about Diego and Elise together. Usually couples are complete opposites—like Hollie and I—but somehow these two badasses started crushing on each other. It's super cute though, but I doubt Cole likes the idea of his sister dating someone like Diego. But to be honest, I don't even care about what Cole thinks. Sure he has been my best friend for most of my life but he just ditched me because of a girl. What happened to bros before hoes? I can be friends with whoever I like. I get that I've kissed Hollie a few times and friends usually don't do that but still. He should have acted like the mature adult he is but he's acting like a total baby in this situation.

About 30 minutes later, I've managed to change my clothes and dry my hair and now I'm ready to leave. I use some of Diego's cologne so I don't smell like pool water and walk downstairs to see Hollie standing at the front door, talking to Elise. I walk up to Hollie and throw my arm around her shoulder, pulling her against my body.

Whoa, where did this confidence come from?

Hollie looks up and smiles at me while Elise gives me a perverted grin and winks. When Diego comes downstairs, he grabs Elise's hand and they head back upstairs before the two of us have a chance to say goodbye to them. We step outside and I unlock the car. Since I'm a gentleman, I open the passenger door of the car and let Hollie sit in. She giggles as she sits inside, clearly not used to being treated this way. I think girls should be treated like the precious jewels they are.

"Lets stop at Starbucks and buy coffee and then we'll buy macaroons and just go for a walk around town, alright?"

Hollie nods her head.

I park my car in a parking lot close to Starbucks and step outside. Grabbing Hollie's hand in mine, we walk to the closest Starbucks and I hand her twenty dollars. "You go buy the coffee, I'll buy us macaroons. Just get me a simple iced coffee and you can buy yourself whatever you want." I give her a quick peck on the forehead and jog across the street to the macaroons shop. I close my eyes when the smell of macaroons hit me. I swear those are the best sweets invented. I could eat like 20 macaroons without blinking an eye.

Once I pay for my order I step outside just as Hollie walks across the street. She hands me my drink and I hold it in the same hand as the macaroons and use my free hand to lace our fingers together. The two of us walk quietly for a while, just enjoying the lovely day. School is basically over and it's summer. We only have a week left and then we're finished for the next two and a half months and then our senior year will start.

I don't have college plans yet. Obviously I know what I want to study but I have no idea what college I want to go to. My parents want me to fly across the pond and go to a college in England but I don't think I want that. I don't want a change in environment. I wonder what Hollie's going to study once she graduates. She never really talks about her future plans, she tends to live in the present moment and not worry about the future. That can be a good and a bad thing.

My eyes flicker to the ocean when I see the sun setting. The sky is filled with beautiful colors such as pink and purple. It all looks so magical from down here. I lead Hollie to the pier and we lean on the railing, the sound of waves hitting our ears every second.

"It's so beautiful here," Hollie whispers as she slowly takes a sip of the hot beverage in her hand.

"Not as beautiful as you," I murmur. Hollie locks her eyes with me and gives me the biggest smile I've ever seen. Her eyes sparkle as she listens to my compliment. I look down at her moist lips as she licks them. She is seriously the prettiest girl I've ever seen. She deserves only the good things that life has to offer.

Hollie starts slowly leaning in and I do that same. If we're about to kiss then this will be the most perfect moment in my entire life. Someone should photograph us and then I can see how perfect we look together. Well I'll see how perfect Hollie looks. Before our lips touch, she pulls away.

"Levi, I need to talk to you about something." She says quietly.

I feel my heart drop in my chest. Is she breaking up with me? We aren't even dating and I feel like she's going to rip my heart out any second and stomp on it and then throw it into the ocean like it means nothing to her.

"I feel honored that I've had the chance to get to know someone like you, Levi; you're funny, talented, caring, a true gentleman, you have a big heart and you're just an extremely lovely person. I never thought that my little Grinch heart can ever blossom and have feelings for someone and this is scary as fuck for me and I don't even know what I'm saying right now, but I guess what I'm trying to say is that I really really like you. Like a lot."

A smile appears on my face.

"And I guess what I'm trying to say is that, Levi, will you go on a date with me?"
