Bitches, you thought, huh?

"Mommy!" I brace myself for the impact that is sure to come. For someone who just got the hang of walking a few months ago she surely has taken it to a whole new level. Bright blue, happy eyes look up at me with a smile on her face and I feel something jolt in my chest. A sense of melancholy washes over me at the thought that her biological father thought it better to leave for her protection, than to raise her as his own. But, the greedy part of me bends down and holds her close. I don't think I could've withstood that pain, that separation from her.

Drew's father, Damian, is currently traveling around the world, restlessly chasing the people that destroyed his family. I think walking away from Lucy was a form of self-punishment for him, I'm saddened at the thought. At three years old now, Lucy only knows her 'grandfather' through pictures we kept, though she does get excited whenever a new postcard of his arrives. Damian's parting letter before taking off asked that Drew and I raise her as our own, to never reveal his secret. She's far too young now, but it makes me wonder of our future.

Voices are heard in the vicinity along with the usual clattering noises that make up a city, but it seems like the perfect day for the park. Lucy sure seems excited at the outcome of our day. She's growing into a happy child and only a few things could brighten up her luminous smile, one of them approaching us now. Drew walks over to us with a bag full of drinks, a smirk on his face and his gait full of confidence. My heart leaps in my chest, as if trying to claw itself out and make its way towards Drew. Lucy immediately detaches herself from me before barreling towards her 'father'.

I'd hate to admit it, but there used to be a part of me that doubted we were doing the right thing. That, perhaps, we should've given Lucy over to Damian, to allow him the joy of watching her grow. But, since his grief and guilt wouldn't allow him near her, we've compromised on allowing him to be involved in her life. Drew tells her stories of their father, his own memories healing some of the resentment that had grown in the now blue eyed man.

"Mom!" I'm snapped out of my thoughts by Lucy's laughter, and I turn to see Drew swinging her in the air. Those two have been attached at the hip now more than ever, it doesn't help that my classes take up a lot of my time. I just have to remind myself that the higher workload will only allow me to be with my family more in a short while.

"What?" I laugh as she struggles to escape her father's arms. Yep, that's how I'll always refer to Drew because by all means and purposes, he is her father. That's what Damian wanted, and that's what my heart recognizes.

"Is Uncle Kohl coming?" she jumps around after finally having freed herself from Drew's clutches. I laugh as he tries to recapture his hostage. Her brown hair has grown into ringlets, bouncing around with her every move.

"Not today sweetie, your cousin is demanding sleep." She immediately smiles at the mention of her baby cousin, Blake. Yep, Kohl has procreated and, honestly, we couldn't believe it when the announcement was made. I'd like to say that he's matured some, but he's still as childish as ever, though he is growing into an overbearing father. Even more astounding was the fact that Kim found all this out last year during her first semester in college. It seems like Kohl didn't have it in him to wait, though the guys and I currently have a bet going on how he had to tied her down somehow. It just seems a little sketchy how he got his dream girl. However, it is hilarious watching him do the 'daddy' role he's been plummeted into.

Sammy and Adrian are currently traveling, having decided that college could hold out for a year. Something tells me the reason for their travels isn't just to satisfy their 'wanderlust', but Drew's been keeping really quiet about it. Whenever there's a transition into another country we receive a box full of goods. Sadly, letters from them have been coming less and less causing Lucy to break out in a scowl all too familiar to us. Though she does love Kohl, no one can deny the bond the little girl has with Uncle Adrian.

"Can't we go to their house?" Lucy widens her eyes in a pleading manner. I laugh and shake my head, two years older than her cousin she's already so attached to him.

"I don't think that would be appreciated, Little Blue," Drew ruffles her hair causing her to back away from him.

"Why not?" Big blue eyes framed by dark lashes blink up at him.

"Don't you want to spend the day with us?" I cut in before she has a chance to frustrate him. Drew has a tendency to curse when frustrated, but since he restrains himself around her the frustration tends to come out in other, 'creative', ways. Just last week he banned technology from the house when she wouldn't stop singing the Barney song. And three months ago when she made a rebuttal against eating any type of vegetable. He thought he'd remedy that by only feeding her vegetables. It did lead to the very interesting, yet unamusing, discovery that being stubborn is a Collins trait. Drew gave me a grateful look before locating a picnic table and carrying our bags over there. I grabbed Lucy's hand and followed.

"Look mom it's an ice cream cart, can we go?"

"No!" Drew yelled from a distance. I smirked, knowing exactly the reason for his refusal, remembering that incident a few years ago. Oh Drew, always so protective. We sit around the table eating the sandwiches Drew insisted on making, he acts like I'll poison the family with my cooking skills. Sometimes it's hard to get over the fact that the house is mostly empty now. Roger and Claire moves just outside of town after graduation, running a foster home now. I wish I could be bitter about it, but I don't think I could deny the child an opportunity to be brought up by two great people. Lucy never misses a chance to visit her 'grandparents', always happy to be near them.

I felt bad about Kohl moving, insisting that it was his home as much as it was mine. My brother refused at every turn finally bringing up the fact that the fond memories I had of our family there weren't quite as endearing to him. Though he still loves our parents, the house was an attachment to some guilt he was working to move on from, and I was proud of him.

Sadly, Ruby went to college out of state and the distance was harrowing. We've grown closer over time and we never miss a call on Fridays, our very own movie night. It was saddening to watch her leave and though Lucas acts tough, I know he was derailed at the change. It was surprising to see him go into college, I thought he'd follow in Drew's footsteps and work by his side on the businesses Damian left his son.

He buries himself deeply into his work and is planning on working with Drew after he graduates. Sadly, the only person that seems to break him out of his funk is Lucy, whom he visits regularly. I don't know if the reason for his current state is the Ruby situation, but something tells me it might be something deeper and possibly involving Drew.

"Do you regret it?" Drew and I are now sitting on a bench beneath a tree with a great view of Lucy on the swings. Lord knows Drew needs to keep an eye on her 24/7 or he'd have a heart attack. I look down at my hand, at the ring glinting on my left hand and immediately know what he's referring to.

Do I regret meeting him? Taking Lucy in and the crazy ass journey that followed? I turn to him with a smile. "No, I don't think I do."

Even though we still wait on the day for the culprit behind some of the unforgivable tragedies that struck us to be caught, we move on with life one step at a time. Even with some people we never thought we'd keep by our sides.

Gagging noises break us out of trance, bringing our attention behind us.

"Are you idiots done with the dumb stares?" Mike's a work in progress and Drew's current right hand man. I'm just waiting to get the call on who stabbed whom, with their tempers it's a very plausible scenario.

"Uncle Mike!" Despite being my cousin, Lucy refers to him as her uncle never leaving him out of our family. I've grown fond of the moody bastard though he does make me contemplate murder most of the time.

"Hey, you ready to go?" He swings her up into his arms and I embarrassingly blush at his question. He's also become Drew and I's babysitter for date night. I smile after watching them a moment longer. Do I regret the course that my life took after accidentally meeting Drew in a dark alley and leaving with a bundle in my hands? No, I don't, even if a storm does seem to be brewing in the horizon.
