"This is the best cake I have ever eaten." Hunter gestured to his plate.

"You've out done yourself, darling."

"Best breakfast ever." Hunter laughed.

"Thank you." I blushed as I cleaned up the kitchen.

"Have you packed your bags?" My mom asked.

"Yip."

"Thank you for having me here, Mel. It was truly fantastic."

"Anytime Hunter. You must come visit again."

"Definitely."

"Not." I mumbled.

"Darling, I wouldn't be surprised if the next time he comes that he's your boyfriend."

Hunter laughed and I turned around, "Jokes aside -"

"I wasn't joking." My mom interrupted.

"Mom... I was saying, we really need to leave if we want to arrive before dark."

"Of course. Take the cake with you. I'll clean up the rest, you go get your bags."

"Your mom likes me." Hunter nudged me as we got to the top of the stairs.

"She also liked Jake." I smirked and Hunter growled.

"Bye mom! I love you lots!" I called once I was in the car.

"Bye darling. Lovely meeting you Hunter! Drive safely!"

-

"Sweetheart? Wake up. We're home." Hunter gently shook my shoulder.

"I slept through the entire ride?"

"Yip. You even spoke in your sleep." Hunter smiled.

"What did I say?"

"Oh nothing much." He waved it off but I could tell by the gleam in his eyes that he was lying.

"Hunter..."

He sighed, "You asked me to kiss you."

"You're lying."

"I promise, sweetheart."

"Oh gosh, I'm so sorry Hunt."

He shrugged, "Would have done it if you weren't unconscious.

I laughed, "Come on, use those muscles to get our bags."

Hunter smirked but said nothing.

-

When we unlocked the door there was a pristine white envelope. It was an invitation to my dad's wedding, which was after our first semester ended.

"You alright, sweetheart?" Hunter sounded concerned.

"Hmm?"

"You alright?"

"Been better. You want some cake for an earlier supper?" I tried avoiding the topic and Hunter didn't press me to continue.

"How about we go out?"

"I don't think I'm up for it. I just want to call it an early night."

"We could invite Ty and Sky? Freaky how their names rhyme." He mumbled.

I smiled at Hunter, "You know their ship names are the exact same as their names. Skyler and Tylar."

Hunter laughed and then his face softened, "If you're not up for going out, I could get them to deliver?"

"Please, Hunt."

He left me and then came back, "Has this got anything to do with your sister?"

I froze, "We're not talking about that now."

"Why not, sweetheart? Surely I have to know who I'm living with?" He smiled but it faded when I didn't smile back.

"Well then why don't you tell me where you went the other evening?" I turned to face him and crossed my arms.

He rubbed his neck, "Because that doesn't matter right now."

"Well we're not talking about my sister."

"Does Jake know?"

"What does that matter? He's my ex, if that's a problem then find a new roommate."

"I just wanna try get to know you better, Em."

"You spent a whole weekend with me. I think it should be me trying to get to know you. So where did you grow up?"

"Few hours away from here."

I rolled my eyes at his useless answer but continued my interrogation "Parents together or divorced?"

"Together."

"Hobbies?"

"Singing, piano and guitar, biology and... Let's leave it at that."

I rolled my eyes, "How many serious girlfriends have you had?"

"I'm not answering that. Can we please stop now?"

I walked closer to Hunter, "How many serious girlfriends have you had?"

He grabbed my wrist, "I'm not talking about that and you're not talking about your sister so can we just drop it? Please?"

I pulled my hand back, "Fine."

-

Hunter and I sat in silence for along time until the doorbell rang.

"I'm paying." I said to Hunter.

"I offered. I'll pay."

"Hunter, I'm not going to create a fight out of nothing, so just let me pay?" I opened the door and paid the delivery guy.

I grabbed 4 slices of pizza and headed towards my room, "I'll be in my room."

Hunter didn't answer. I didn't know why we were bickering, there weren't any real reasons to fight. I just got sensitive when people asked about my sister and I tended to lash out at them.

-

"Sweetheart? Can I come in?" Hunter's strong voice was clear through the door.

"Yes." I wasn't making the situation any better by acting cold towards him.

He sat down next to me on my bed, "I just wanted to - "

"No, Hunt. I created a fight out of nothing."

"Em, I pushed you when you clearly didn't want to speak about it."

"Hunter, really, it's not your fault. I get sensitive when people ask about my sister and it takes me a long time before I can speak about it."

"And I could tell that. So, I'll wait. You tell me when you're ready to talk about it. Okay, Em?"

"I'm sorry, Hunt. Thank you."

Hunter was holding me tight as tears slowly fell down my face.

"I'm guessing the wedding invite isn't helping either?" He pulled me back to look at me.

I shook my head, "Not a single bit."

I yawned and Hunter slowly lowered me down onto my bed as my eyes shut.
I felt a warm body holding me, circles being draw onto my shoulder and my hair being gently moved away from my face as I slowly fell into a dreamless sleep even after Hunter's well wishes.

"Sweet dreams, sweetheart."
