Chapter Two

I ate a quick dinner of Pop-Tarts (don't judge) and planned to chill out and watch some Netflix. I still hadn't done that homework either but seriously. Math can wait. Netflix is life. I wrapped myself in my Spongebob blanket in the living room, turning on the TV.

Another few hours passed. The shorter clock hand was inching towards the 11. I knew I should turn the television off and do the pile of homework that was oh so nicely waiting for me on my bed, but how are you supposed to stop watching Castle right when they're about to find the criminal?

Um, not possible.

My concentration was only broken when the sound of voices started directly from the new neighbor's yard. Loud, male voices were shouting at each other. I turned up the volume and continued watching. It sounded like a fight was about to break out, but I stayed exactly where I was.

It was none of my business. I wasn't about to stick my nose into someone else's problems and risk my precious nose being broken. But the voices were growing angrier. It was still to far away for me to make out the words clearly, but I could tell someone was flipping out. It was surprising that the whole neighborhood wasn't awake yet.

But a little peek couldn't hurt, right?

I paused the scene and inched to the window, looking through the blinds as discreetly as I could. In the neighbor's yard, 2 figures stood facing each other. They were both yelling, clearly agitated with each other. Even in the darkness, I could tell both of them were male.

I watched them shout and curse each other out for a second. Just as I was about to turn away, one of them threw a punch at the other. I did say I wasn't going to stick my nose into their business but this was just ridiculous. It was the right thing to do, I suppose.

I slipped on some shoes and went outside, crossing the yard until I reached the fence. The 2 men were still in a brawl. One of them, the man with brown hair, had the upper hand. He threw a couple punches, and then it shifted. The other man overpowered him and they wrestled to the ground. I could see faint traces of blood on their shirt.

"Hi!" I said loudly, hoping to actually get them to stop. As if. The guys continued fighting. Someone delivered a painful kick to the other. Now I was getting frantic. I assumed this was just a little kiddie fight where they threw a couple punches and then stopped.

But they were about to kill each other. There was a glint of something silver in the moonlight. My heart dropped straight to my toes. If that was what I thought it was, then I would be dealing with not only these deranged idiots but also straight into the police station for witnessing a killing. This was so not happening.

"Hey, stop!" I yelled a little louder. The fence was separating me from the fight. I looked around desperately, but no one else was around. The neighborhood seemed to be abandoned. Surely someone must have heard this! I could only yell at them, but I wasn't to keen on getting in between two extremely violent men.

"Fuck off!" I heard a gruff voice shout. It was directed towards me. My heart was thudding hard against my chest. I really didn't want to get in between the two of them, but it looked like they would kill each other if no one stopped them. I wasn't sure just how much I could affect two grown men, but I would have to try.

The man with the brown hair hit the other guy so hard that he went sprawling to the ground. I quickly walked around the fence, hesitating to step in between. They were now rolling around in the grass, yelling and punching and screaming. I heard a nasty crack emit from one of them. That was the final straw.

"Woah, woah, woah." I panicked, jumping into action. I slammed myself between them, pushing them apart briefly. For just a second, I thought they would finally give up but oh boy, was I wrong. It seemed as if the problem between the two men went further than I thought. One of the pushed me away. I stumbled, falling onto the hard ground.

Then the inevitable happened.

The man with the knife finally ended it. I saw it happen (Oh boy, police precinct, here I come). The knife was jabbed straight into the other man's torso. He let out a breathless huff, clutching his stomach. Through his fingers, I saw a dark red stain growing bigger. A scream elicited from my mouth, and the guy fell onto the grass. My eyes went to the man who had stabbed him. He was standing above. Before I could catch sight of his face, he started running. I watched as he disappeared around the side of the house, too shocked to move.

There came a cough from the man.

I jumped up and ran over, pulling him upright. He was limping, the wound still gushing out blood. I didn't bother looking at his face. There would be time for pleasantries later. I was on the verge of flipping out.

"Oh my God. Oh my God. Ohhh my God, this is not happening." I whispered, frantically jumping up and down like a bunny. It was something I did when I was nervous. The sight of blood made me gag, but I managed to keep myself from throwing up for the sake of this man. I couldn't let him die, for goodness sake.

"Ohhhhh God!" I moaned, completely losing it. "Sweet baby alpacas, what are we gonna do?! You have to go to the hospital! I don't know how to drive! I don't have a car! Do you have a car? Oh my goodness, we're gonna die. We are so going to die. I can't....I don't know what to do! This is not happening. This is a dream, right? Please tell me it's a dream. Oh my God, I'm gonna cry. Ohh-"

"Will you shut up for a second?" the man suddenly cut me off. In my frenzied state, I hadn't even realized that he was leaning against me. Blood was soaked onto my clothes as well. The man pushed himself off me, keeping a hand pressed against his wound.

"Just go." he muttered. "I'll be fine."

"You'll be fine?" I shrieked. "Dude, you just got freaking stabbed! You're letting out more blood than a girl on her period! You are not going to be fine! I have to call the police. No wait, I have to call an ambulance! Oh my God, why didn't I think of that before? Stupid, Genevi-"

"Shut up!" he yelled, turning away. I wrung my hands together in panic, trying to calm myself down. "I can take care of this, kitten. Leave me alone. It's just a small wound. Not like I haven't been stabbed before." he muttered the last part.

"What?!"

"Leave." he growled. I stared at him, unable to close my mouth. I had never seen someone get stabbed before. Heck, I had never seen someone get into a fight before. Ever. The only violence I had experienced was in movies. It was unfortunate for me that I found out how I would react in a danger situation like this. And by react, I mean to completely flip the hell out.

I finally caught sight of his features. He was wearing a white shirt which was now soaked with blood like some horrendous tye-dye gone wrong mess, and ripped jeans. He was very handsome, I'll give you that, even though he just gott stabbed. He had dark brown hair which practically defied gravity and dark eyes that simmered with anger. He also had a black lip ring on his lower lip and colored tattoos on his right arm. He totally fit the bad boy look, which I instantly came to dislike. Just a few minutes had passed, and I already knew he was a magnet for trouble.

"Are you sure?" I asked cautiously.

"Yes!"

"Oh my God, I can't believe this is happening." I whispered, unable to break my gaze from his stab wound. Which was still losing blood, might I add.

"Yeah well, believe it kitten." he growled. I watched as he limped away, entering his house. The sudden realization hit me.

He was the new neighbor.
