Chapter Seven: Hot as Hell

"Wait you guys know eachother?"

"Unfortunately yes." I sigh.

"This is great!" She claps her hands. "We can all be a trio!"

"Woah woah woah, I think you're forgetting the most important person here." Dylan walks in wearing his sunglasses, clearly for fashion purposes since it's only like 22 degrees.

"Dylan!" Taylor leans over the counter to hug him.

"Taylor!" He hugs her back.

Landon must have noticed the confused expression on my face. He lifts up the counter so I can get out.

Oh, so I've been jumping over it for no apparent reason.

I take off my cap and hang it up. Landon grabs my hand and pulls me along with him. I look over my shoulder at Taylor, who's way too engrossed in her conversation with Dylan to even notice us leave.

"Jesus, you walk fast."

He looks back at me and slows down. "Sorry."

I catch my breath. "Where are we going because I'm not meant to be walking alone with strangers."

"I'm not kidnapping you, Gem."

"I hardly know you Zuko, for all I know you could."

He rolls his eyes. "Are you seriously calling me Zuko?"

"Yep, you call me Gem and I call you Zuko. It's only fair."

We carry on walking in silence and I notice that Landon still hasn't let go of my hand. Is that a good thing?

He finally stops at a park and takes me over to a swing. We both sit on one and swing for a while before any of us speaks.

"So-" We both say at the same time.

We look over at each other. "You first." We both say in unison again.

"No you first." It happens again.

"Stop that!" We both laugh. I notice how soft Landon's laugh actually is. It's kind of nice to see him genuinely laugh and not smirk.

After a moment he stops laughing and smiles instead. "Okay okay, I'll go first. You're probably wondering how Taylor and I know each other right?"

I nod and he continues. "Well we've actually been friends since we were 12."

"That's a long time."

"Our parents are both businessmen so we always saw each other and soon enough became friends."

"She seems like an awesome person."

"She really is. Plus she was the first girl who didn't become my friend just because I was, and still am, hot as hell." He flexes him muscles.

I scoff. "Someone's modest."

"You didn't deny it though because you know I'm hotter than you."

"If you're hotter than me that makes me cooler than you. Get it?" I snap my fingers at him.

"Touché."

I turn to face Landon and watch him staring into the distance.

He snaps me out of my thoughts. "Take a picture Gem, it'll last longer."

I quickly look away and hear him chuckle slightly. Great, he probably thinks I'm a creep.

I cough, trying to break the awkwardness. "I should get going. Ryan's probably on his way home."

"Why are you so scared of him anyways?"

"I'm not scared of him, I just rather not listen to his overprotective brother speech."

He furrows his eyebrows as if thinking of something and gets up. "C'mon I'll drop you off."

I wave him off. "No no it's fine. I can walk from here."

"I'm not letting you walk home alone."

"But-" He stares at me blankly and I instantly know I'm not going to win this argument.

"Fine let's go."

We finally arrive at my house and I walk up the porch steps. I look behind to see Landon not knowing whether to follow me or not. I have to admit his thinking face was kind of cute.

Cute? Ew since when do I find Landon cute.

"Do you want to uh... come in?"

He's about to reply when my dad decides to open the door. "Heidi how was yo- Landon?"

Landon gives him a small wave. "Hi Mr Thompson."

Why does everyone seem to know him except me?

"It's been a while son! Come in come in."

"Actually I have to get going sir, but thank you."

Sir? Since when did he become polite?

"No worries. I'll let you say goodbye to Landon, Heidi." My dad turns to me and whispers to me before he leaves. "Tell me all about it."

Why is he like this?

I really hope Landon didn't hear that. "Thanks for walking me home by the way."

"Don't mention it."

A wave of silence passes between us. Why does this have to be so awkward?

He decides to break the silence. "I'll see you later then, Gem." He starts walking down the porch steps.

"Bye Landon."

He looks back at me.

"What?" I laugh slightly.

"Nothing, I guess I just like hearing you say my name." He smiles so quickly that if I wasn't paying close attention to him, no doubt I would've missed it.
