Chapter 27: Daddy's Punch

🍪Ellie's P.OV

"This is not fair," Alec protested, a frown gracing his features as we both walked inside the hospital.

"How is me not letting you hold my hand unfair and what you did earlier fair?" I glared at him, continuing to hide my hands underneath his/my sweatshirt.

"It was totally fair considering you woke me up last night with your 'Alec? Are you awake?' question," His voice turning into a high pitched voice as he tried to quote me from last night.

I scowled, pushing him lightly."You could've just ignore me and continued sleeping,"

He didn't even stumble and placed an arm around my shoulders, pulling me close to his side and looked down to me.

A few nurses passed by us, their heads twisting to the side as they checked Alec out. I grew completely amused at this and their faces turned red when they noticed me staring.

Alec who was completely oblivious to the stares, shook his head and snorted."How could I when your voice was so problematic and miserable?" He retorted.

"That's still not an excuse to throw me in the bathtub with freezing water," I defended, pinching his side which earned a pained yelp from him.

We both entered the elevator and I immediately pressed the floor number. I looked up to the small screen where it shows the floor number.

"It was a wake up call biscotto!" Alec raised his arms as if to prove his point.

I smacked one of his arms harshly."Then next time, I'd wake you up by smothering your face with a pillow!" I glared at him.

A dazzling smirk graced his lips."Next time huh?" He cheekily asked, his brows waggling suggestively.

I let out a yawn, bringing my hands up to stare at my nails blankly."Oh don't worry, that next time would be coming up in like never." The smirk wiped out of his lips earning a satisfied nod from Jessica and I.

He sighed, pulling his arm away from my shoulder to pinch the bridge of his nose."Fine, I'm so sorry for throwing you in bath tub with ice cold water."

I beamed at him."That wasn't so hard was it? Apology accepted."

"Can I please hold your hand now biscotto?" He pleaded, his sky blue eyes widening adorably.

This time I let the smile form on my face at this. I took my hands out of the sweatshirt and offered him my hand.

He didn't waste a second and interlaced our fingers. A sigh escaping his lips whilst I bit my lip, loving how his big hand engulfed my smaller ones like it was made just for me.

The elevator let out a small ding when the doors opened, both of us walking out. We passed by the nurse area, eyeing the room numbers.

"It's here," He said, eyeing the room number one more time and nodded.

He let go of my hand, taking a few deep breaths and squaring his shoulders like he was preparing for battle.

I gave him an amused look,"What are you doing?" I mused out, eyeing the door and turning back to him.

He exhaled loudly before nodding to himself and knocking on the door politely.

"Preparandomi per l'ira di tuo padre," He mumbled in Italian, the door opening before I could ask him what he meant.

(Readying myself for your father's wrath)

My father's built frame greeted us. He was wearing his police uniform and I could tell he was freshly showered from home, his hair was in it's familiar dark mane.

He opened the door wide and turned to tell my mom that it was us. She popped behind my dad's shoulder, a warm smile gracing her features.

"I'm so sorry Alec but I would be a really bad dad if I didn't do this," He suddenly said, earning a puzzled look from mom and I.

The next thing I knew, he threw a punch at Alec's face making him stagger back lightly. I let out a surprised gasp while my mom had her mouth open into an 'O'

"That's for making my daughter cry," Dad simply stated, crossing his arms across his chest with a satisfied nod.

"Dad!" I exclaimed, turning to Alec and trying to see if he was okay.

"What the actual fuck Robert! Why would you do that!" Mom hissed, slapping my dad's back harshly.

"It's fine Mrs. Haven, I totally deserved it." Alec agreed, holding a hand to his cheek.

I felt a frown grace my features, standing on my tip toes and pulling his hand away from his cheek to see the damage.

Thankfully, my dad didn't hit him hard enough but I could see a faint bruise already forming on his cheek.

"The next time you make my daughter cry, I'll shoot you with my gun." Dad threatened, giving him a slight glare.

"Noted Mr. Haven," Alec stood straight, nodding at my dad with serious expression.

Mom sighed,"So, this is why you were asking me when they would be arriving," She accused at him.

Dad shrugged, making my mom's lip form into a thin line. An alarmed look graced my features, widening my eyes at dad to signal him in what was about to happen.

"Seeing as you love to punch people so much, you'll be sleeping on the coach for a week love. Who knows, you might accidentally punch me in my sleep," My mom shrugged, giving my dad a cold smile.

At my mom's word, my dad looked at her like she just took away his favorite toy in the world. My mom turned to us, ignoring my dad's look.

"Theodore's asleep. I haven't eaten breakfast yet and I'm quite famished. I'll be down in the cafeteria." Mom said to us, offering Alec an apologetic smile before walking off.

My dad threw me panicked look before following after my mom with long strides. Alec and I followed them until they turned into the corner where the elevator was.

"I have nothing to do with that, I'm sorry about my dad." I casted Alec a guilty look, making our way inside.

Theodore had his back turned to us, sleeping soundly. He had an IV and his hand that had it was placed in front of his face.

The TV was playing a random movie and the volume wasn't that loud. Just enough that you could make out what they were trying to say.

Alec closed the door softly, standing beside me at the chair that was placed closest to Theodore's bed.

"It's okay biscotto, he's just doing his job as a dad." He spoke softly, glancing at me.

The rest of the morning was spent with Theodore sleeping soundly. Apparently he had been injected with antibiotics that's why he was sleepy.

When mom came back up, Dad already left for the station. Alec was sitting on the corner bench, both of us watching the movie.

"I'm so sorry for that Alec, Are you okay?" Mom asked, taking a seat beside him.

"This is just a small scratch ma'am, don't worry." Alec smiled politely at her.

"How many times do I have to tell you? Call me Elena young man," Mom reminded him, earning a nod from Alec.

"Okay Elena," Alec agreed, glancing at me.

I was quite surprised that my mom wasn't mad at Alec for that crying incident. Did something happened? Why does my mom seem to know something that I didn't?

I was about to interject when Theodore's soft voice greeted my ears, the same time the sound of the blankets ruffling.

"Ewwie! You're here!" Theodore exclaimed, a wide sleepy grin on his face.

I took a hold of his hand that was outstretched to me. Pulling the chair closer to his side,"Hi buddy, How are you?" I smiled.

"I'm doing owkay Ewwie but I missed you! Did you miss me too?" Theodore asked, his doe green eyes glimmering with hope.

I ruffled his hair,"Of course buddy, I miss you so so much!" I claimed, standing up from my seat and peppering kisses on his face.

Theodore giggled, his gaze taking notice of Alec who was next to mom."Who's dat?" He wondered out, glancing at me briefly.

Alec stood up from his seat and stood next to me, his height completely towering us both. Theodore didn't cower though, he glanced at Alec with awe and interest.

"Hi lil' guy, I'm Alec King. It's nice to meet you," Alec introduced, offering his hand for Theodore to shake.

"Hello Mwister! I'm Theodore and I'm five years old! It's nice to meet you!" He took Alec's hand and shaking it firmly before pulling away.

I quickly stood up from my seat, nodding at Alec for him to seat down. I knew Theodore loves being a social butterfly and obviously he's charming his way into Alec's heart.

I sat next to my mom, Alec and Theodore talking animatedly to one another. Mom gave me a glance, a wide smile gracing our features as we took in the giant guy and the small guy talking to one another as if they were long time friends.

The rest of the morning was spent mostly of Alec and Theodore talking. It seems that Theodore is quite smitten with him. When the doctor came, he was announced that he can be discharged which earned excited cheers from the two.

"Alec? I was wondering if you could drive them home? I have to go to the station," Mom said, busily filing up the discharge sheet.

"I can but I don't have a child safety seat thingy." Alec answered, glancing at Theodore who was looking wide-eye at the nurse that was taking out his IV.

Mom nodded,"He uses a booster seat now. Don't worry, you can borrow mine from my car," She replied simply.

After that Alec was the one who insisted that he'll carry the overnight bag that my mom brought to her car.

They both went down to set the child's seat on his car while I stayed here in room with Theodore. He was beaming and giggling to himself, clearly excited to be out of the hospital.

Theodore was humming the rocket ship theme song while we both made our way outside the parking lot.

Alec glanced at me with an amused smirk and I couldn't help but give him a 'wth you looking at' look.

The nurses insisted that Theodore can take the wheelchair but my buddy blatantly disagreed and told them he was a strong little guy and he could handle it.

"I'll see you both at home, okay?" Mom said glancing at us both.

"Be safe mom! I wove you!" Theodore exclaimed from the back seat, already safely tucked in his booster seat.

"I love you too honey! Drive safe Alec," Mom gave him a warning look.

"Don't worry, they're safe with me Elena," Alec assured, offering my mom a swift nod.

Mom pulled me in for a hug before walking back to her car. I couldn't help but grow worried, my mom was completely tense and frustrated.

This wasn't the first time that she had to go to the station, there were a few times that my mom helped dad on solving cases.

"Are you okay there lil' buddy?" Alec asked staring at the rearview mirror, once we were all seated in his car.

"I'm okay mwister!" Theodore beamed, clapping his hand excitedly and continued to hum the song.

Alec looked completely amused at this, a ghost of smile on his lip."Ora so perché conosci quella canzone." He muttered softly to himself.

(Now I know why you know that song)

"It seems that you both are getting along well," I commented, my eyes taking in the scenery.

There's nothing more sexier than a guy who can handle children and get along with them well.

Alec nodded,"Your brother's a good kid, though I could bet on my car that he'll grow up breaking heart with his looks," He chuckled softly, changing the gears.

"Mway I ask a qwuestion mwister?" Theodore piped in politely, playing with his fingers.

"Of course lil' buddy, what is it?" Alec asked, glancing at the rearview mirror.

"Do you wike Ewwie?" He wondered out, glancing at the both of us.

At his blunt question, I felt my cheeks heat up. I turned to Theodore with a gape who in return stared at me with complete curiosity.

"Theodore!" I hissed at him, feeling the seat belt dig on my chest.

I felt my heart hammer, Alec and I did confessed that we care for each other and I knew that there's something there but we haven't fully admitted it out loud yet.

Theodore shrugged,"Mom told me that if you'we cuwious, you should ask." He pointed out, jutting his chin up.

Alec chuckled,"You're mom's right lil' buddy and to answer your question, I do like Ellie," He admitted, glancing at me briefly.

I felt my mouth hang open, like flies can enter open. My heart felt like it was about to explode and all the blood rushed straight into my cheeks and ears.

The dinosaur were stomping wildly on my stomach and I felt the familiar flutter that I feel when he says something out of this world.

Hold up, Alec wasn't supposed to answer the question. Shit! Did he just indirectly confessed at me? But should it be directly confessed because he looked at me after answering the question? WAIT. I wasn't even the one who asked and it was Theodore so he confessed to him? But what about me? I'm here in the car, does that mean that he confessed to me too? Fuck. Alec King likes me! The annoying lump of a human just confessed he liked me! This is bad, I'm seeing stars! Why am I feeling lightheaded?

"I'll see you when I wake up," Was all I managed to say before fainting at the front seat of his Jeep Wrangler.

~🤦🏻‍♀️~

I was woken up by the series someone poking my cheek repeatedly. Not only one finger but a smaller one too.

"Don't poke the bear unless you're prepared for its wrath," I groaned, swatting the hand away.

I opened my eyes, feeling quite nauseous. I was in my living room, laying on the comfy couch. Alec and Theodore were on the floor, sitting in front of me.

"What happened?" I wondered out, massaging my temples gently.

Mr. Bean was being portrayed in the TV and Theodore was standing at the corner of the room where his treasure chest filled of toys were kept.

"You don't remember? You passed out biscotto," Alec said, looking at me with concern.

At his words, the events from earlier came rushing in. I did a facepalm, wanting to just smash my head in embarrassment.

"Hey, it's okay cookie. There's nothing to be embarrassed about," Alec said, pulling my hands away from my face.

I gave him a falt look,"Are you sure about that? You just confessed and what did I do? I fainted Alec. I mean, what kind of person faints after a guy confessed—Don't look at me like that. Obviously it's me," I huffed, crossing my arms.

Alec looked completely amused, his hair was in a tousled mess that I knew was because of him frantically running his hand through it. A lopsided smile graced his lips making me pout.

He leaned in, kissing my pout."Did I ever tell you that I love it when you ramble? It's amusing and at the same time educational," He chuckled, his electric blue eyes reminding me of the sunny sky.

"How is it educational?" I wondered out, my lips tingling at the feeling of his lips.

"Because it shows me a glimpse of what goes on in that little brain of yours," He answered, pushing a lock of hair behind my ear.

"I don't know if I should be pissed at you for finding humor in my ramblings or the fact that you called my brain tiny," I pointed out, eyes narrowing at him.

"I'd go with or," Alec suggested, earning a slap on his arm.

"How long was I out?" I asked, placing my feet on the carpeted floor.

Jessica was laughing at me and I had the urge to lock her up in the darkest corners of my brain but then I missed her company.

"About 10 minutes, I had to drive a teensy bit faster than usual." He confessed, a guilty look on his face.

"Ewwie!" We turned our heads to see Theodore rushing to me, his favorite green t-rex dinasour in his hand.

"Hi bud," I greeted him, letting him move in between my legs and wrapped his arms around my middle.

"I'm sorry ewwie, you became sick because of me and now you have to go the doctwor and he's gonna stab you with a needle," Theodore rambled, his green eyes glistening with unshed tears.

"It wasn't your fault Theo and doctors don't stab their patients with needle." I corrected him, ruffling his hair.

Theodore wasn't easily scared and he's usually the one who keeps bringing spiders outside our house when I see one.

I'm scared of bugs but I feel guilty when I kill them and Theodore cries when I try to kill it.

"It wasn't you fault little guy," Alec piped in, making Theodore look at him.

"Owkay Mwister," He beamed, wiping his wet cheeks with the sleeve of his shirt.

I smiled softly, feeling lucky to have a little brother like him."Go ahead Theo, you can play with your toys. I'm sure they missed you."

At the mention of this toys, he grinned excitedly before pecking both our cheek and running off to the corner.

"So about my surprise confession earlier," Alec started off, the heat crawling up to my neck and cheeks.

I bit my lip, nodding at him to continue. I can't exactly risk opening my mouth and start rambling again.

Alec rubbed a hand on the back of his neck."Iwanttocourtyouandiwaswonderingifyoullsayyes." He said in one word.

"What? That was one heck of a long word." I said, my lips twitching up in a smile.

Alec let out a deep sigh before taking a hold of my hand. I threw him a weary look when he suddenly looked at me, his jaw clenched and eyes filled with determination.

"I-I want to court you Ellie Havens and I was wondering if you'll say yes." He repeated.

My jaw almost fell to ground at his words. Jessica was twerking in my head and blood rushed to my cheeks full force.

"I'm gonna faint." I stated, earning a panicked look from him."Kidding!" I added in, only saying it to lighten up the mood.

Alec threw me a relieved look earning a soft laugh from me. I glanced down at our hands before smiling softly at him.

"Why ask me for courtship and not the typical let's date question instead?" I wondered out, trying to figure him out.

Courting wasn't common in our generation. It was something that I found much more interesting than the typical 'let's date' though.

The modern courtship nowadays truly sucked.

"Isn't it obvious? It's because I have every bit of intention in making you Mrs. King."
