Chapter 7: When a door closes, open another one

🍪Ellie's P.O.V

"Still no reply?" Ark asked, taking the seat beside me.

I shook my head, letting out a sigh. It's been three days since Alec has gone MIA and there was absolutely no sign of him.

After the incident, we went back to Alec's house where Sage and Ark did a first aid on me. I didn't stay the night though and had Connor drive me home because the pack of skittles still weren't back and Alec couldn't be reach.

My mom threw a fit the next morning when she saw my split lip but I assured her it was just from me biting my lip to hard. The bruise on my stomach was healing well, I've been putting ice on it every night.

I've been trying to contact Alec since he didn't show up on Monday. Ark and I had a long talk that same day and we couldn't come up with reasons how that guy knew me and why he was looking for me.

The only thing we both could conclude is that the pack of skittles and Alec had a hunch why those guys were after me but the boys were tight lipped about his Alec's whereabouts and changed the topic immediately when asked about that day, even Sage was avoiding our calls.

"Cheer up boo, he'll be back." Ark assured, giving me a smile.

"I hope," I said, giving her a thankful smile.

"Oh! Have you heard about the news? There's a new transferee here in school!" She said, changing the topic.

"Oh really? We haven't had any transferees since forever," I replied, scratching my jaw gently.

"Yes, I think it's a girl. I've overheard it from one of the jocks earlier. I'm not sure though," Ark said, letting out a shrug.

"Calm down Ark. We'll surely see a glimpse of her or him during lunch," I replied, already knowing the curiosity that's burning in Ark's blood.

"Mr. Woods is so hot," Ark sighed dreamily, both of us making our to the cafeteria.

"I agree with you but the guy has a fiance," I pointed out, looping my arm with hers.

Mr. Woods is our new homeroom teacher. He was the youngest teacher here in our building at the age of twenty-three and has caused quite an uproar with his curly locks and pale eyes.

Students were immediately slammed into the stop sign upon seeing the silver ring neatly wore by his ring finger.

"I know but the guy's hot and there's nothing wrong with appreciating that about him," She fired back, bumping into a few students as we entered the cafeteria.

I rolled my eyes at her answer. We were making our way towards our usual table but stopped a few meters when I noticed the bloody skittle was back but that wasn't what made me pause.

It was the unfamiliar black-haired beauty that was sitting next to him and was sitting on my spot. The pack of skittles were laughing around her even Alec who was known to have no funny bone in his body.

"That's the new student? She's pretty but it looks like she has her claws set unto Alec," Ark said, following my line of sight.

As we got closer, the more I felt self-conscious about myself. She wasn't pretty, she was gorgeous. She had fair skin with freckles dotting her cheeks and pointed nose, her black hair was in a loose curls and was gifted with steel grey eyes and pouty lips. She wore black fitted jeans, a cute top, and nude heels.

I wouldn't be surprised if she goes up the popular ladder by the end of the day.

"Hi guys," Ark greeted, taking the available seat which was between Jayden, Hayden and Chase.

"Where have you been? We've been waiting for you," Valentino pouted, leaning slightly to Chase.

"Hi! I'm Annie Martins, the new transferee." A soft voice piped in, our attention turning to the new transferee.

"Nice to meet you! I'm Ellie Haven and this is Ark, my best friend." I introduced, giving her a polite smile.

"Likewise," Annie smiled, completely taken aback at her having cute dimples.

The whole time, Alec never looked my way nor did he even acknowledge my presence. He was completely invested in Annie and I couldn't help but notice how they were familiar with each other, it brought a pinch of pain in my heart. Alec was laughing the whole time too, they all were. Even Ark warmed up to her, it made me feel sad that they completely forgot I was even there.

Why the hell was he acting like that?

When the bell rang, I was the first to stand up in my seat. I was quietly walking with them before mumbling a goodbye and walking off to my next class.

I wasn't even that far away from them and I heard Alec's voice loud and clear asking if he could walk Annie to her next class.

It broke my heart a little.

I bit my lip, trying to keep my emotions at bay and confusion at his sudden cold shudder. I entered my music class, my eyes cast down as I made my way towards my seat.

My eyes landed unto a pair of designer shoes, I looked up to make sure it was my seat and indeed it was but it seems that this time, it was once again occupied by an unfamiliar sleeping guy.

I lightly tapped his shoulder,"Excuse me? I'm sorry to disturb you in your sleep but you're sitting on my sea—" The words died down when the guy looked up from his arms.

He had stormy gray eyes that was framed with thick lashes and thick brows. He had black curly hair that was quite messy, a strong jawline and lips that were set into an apologetic smile showing off two small dimples that were dotted on each of his cheek. I could tell he was a jock from his previous school with his olive skin tone and lean body.

He looked quite familiar though.

"I'm sorry," A husky voice met my ears.

"It's fine. If you don't mind, you could sit at the next chair beside me instead," I offered, pointing at the empty seat beside mine.

He nodded, standing up and I once again felt like a small child as he towered over me. I cleared my throat, taking my rightfully seat.

"Are you new here? I haven't seen you around," I asked, fiddling my fingers.

"I am, we lived here before and we just moved back. I'm here along with my twin sister," He answered, pushing his curly mess away from his face.

"Annie Martins?" I asked, despite already knowing the answer.

He nodded,"Yes, I'm assuming from your expression that you've met her? I'm Todd Martins." He introduced, giving me a grin.

"Yes, I have. It's nice to meet you, I'm Ellie Haven." I smiled, offering my hand to shake.

He looked at me in amusement, let out a deep chuckle before clasping his hand unto mine and shaking it.

"It suits your pretty face," He complimented, earning a blush from me.

Mr. Pimp entered the room, cutting off all conversations that were going on in the room including ours.

"Mrs. Sley called in sick today and decided to give you free period. Please use it wisely," He strictly said, eyeing all of us for a few seconds before walking out of the room.

Some students let out yells of excitement but was immediately shushed by others. Students started pouring out of the room and before I knew it, we were the only one left.

"Do you mind giving me a school tour?" Todd asked, glancing at me.

"Sure," I said, offering him a smile.

The rest of the thirty minutes was us roaming along school and explaining to him about the rules and whatnots.

"This is field, you know typical description. It has a bleachers and like a small area where the players are stationed during the game," I explained, making our way towards the field.

Todd sat down once we were a few meters away from the entrance, leaning back with his hands supporting behind him. The wind lightly ruffled his curly hair and I couldn't help but laugh as he tried to fix it again, taking a seat next to him in an indian style.

"How are you liking your first day so far? Made any friends yet?" I asked, my hands toying with the grass.

"Meh, I'm technically used to transferring schools. It's not exactly a new thing for me since my mom's work doesn't like to stay in one place and we tend to move around a lot," Todd explained, glancing at me every once in a while.

"So, you're not permanently staying here then?" I asked, pushing a strand of hair behind my ear.

"No, after a few years of fighting with her about quitting her job. She finally did and we decided to go back to the place where we stayed the longest which was here," He said, letting out a shrug.

I nodded quietly, grasping in the information that Todd had shared to me. I let out a sigh feeling completely at peace before it was ruined when my eyes found a pair of familiar bodies that were seated at the bleachers.

I let out a startled gasp earning Todd's attention before following my line of sight. He let out a hum and shook his head when he saw Annie and Alec laughing at one another.

I couldn't help but bite the inside of cheek hard until I tasted blood, hurt invading my system. I fisted my hands tightly, the urge to cry slamming into me.

Todd noticed my expression, concern appeared on his face before he placed a hand behind my back.

"Don't tell me my sister's currently rubbing her claws with the guy you like," He said, rubbing my back gently.

"I won't then," I replied, looking down so that my hair would cover my face.

He sighed,"Are you close with him?" He questioned, pulling his hand back.

I nodded,"We've been seeing each other for a month now and I-I mean I care about him more as friend obviously. I haven't heard from him for a few days now and earlier, he just gave me the cold shudder when I didn't even know what I did wrong," I rambled, pulling at the grass furiously.

I was busy looking down that I didn't notice something flash in Todd's expression.

"Well, you know what I think? He's a fucking douchebag for doing that to you." He said, giving me a genuine smile.

"He is a fucking douchebag. We weren't official, yes, but the least he could do was talk to me that it wasn't working for him. I would've back off." I shrugged, offering him a small smile.

Todd grew silent for a second before standing up and offering his hand for me to take. I glanced up to him with confusion before taking it.

"One thing I know in life Ellie is everything happens for a reason so there's reason why and who knows maybe you'll find out the reason why this is all happening," He said, pulling me up when I took his hand.

We both walked back inside and I didn't dare turn my gaze back to those two. If Alec wanted to be like this then maybe, I'm better off without him.

"Ooh! You're giving off a quite wise first impression on me," I teased, my mood lighting up just a little bit.

"Well, My first impression of you was, I thought you have a uni boob, A bad posture, and I notice that you dress like wreck it ralph with your hobo glasses." Todd said, quoting the DUFF movie.

I gasped,"Take that back!" I demanded, punching him on the arm.

"I was joking, geez," He pouted, rubbing the sore spot.

I giggled,"I know and besides, I know I'm in the average area when it comes to looks but it's okay because Ark makes up for in that department for me between the two of us," I shrugged, giving him a wide smile.

"Ark?" Todd asked, giving me a side-way glance.

"She's my best friend and a pretty hot one at that. She has these pretty brown eyes and a killer smile! She's wild, a social butterfly and oh! She has this awesome ombre hair, I always wanted to try it though. It looks really cool but I'm kinda scared because you know it might not suit me and I don't want to make myself even below the averag—" I was cut off by Todd laughing.

"Let's make a deal Ellie," Todd declared, his dimples showing.

"That's so random, what is it?" I wondered out, a blush forming on my cheeks at the fact that I rambled once again.

"Let me give you a makeover," He said, his eyes meeting mine.

"What?" I repeated, my eyes widening.

"First of all, What I said about earlier was a joke and yes, Ark seems like a beautiful girl but that doesn't mean you aren't Ellie," He pointed out, a serious look gracing his features.

"You're giving me queer eye vibes here but fine," I agreed, earning a wide smile from him.

"What's in it for you though?" I continued, giving him a weary look.

"I get one request from you," He simply said, expecting me to take back my answer.

"Fine but make sure it won't end up with me being picked up by the police," I joked, but giving him a warning look.

The bell rang indicating it was end of classes for today and I didn't realize we were now both standing in front of my locker.

"I know we just met today but can I give you a ride home?" Todd asked, growing shy for a second before he cleared his throat.

"Sure, Let me just place my books real quick," I nodded, before unlocking my locker and placing my books inside.

I noticed that I haven't eaten the pack of skittles that I brought and opened it, closing my locker shut.

Todd looked at me with amusememt as I chewed a mouth full of the sugary sweets.

I was kinda disappointed that it wasn't the green pack of skittles: the sour ones. I loved those but considering my dad messed up the grocery shopping, this original one would still do.

"Do you want some? Just don't take the red and purple ones," I mumbled, handing it to him.

He nodded, taking out some yellow and green ones before throwing it into his mouth. We walked quietly towards his car and was halfway across the parking lot.

"Hey Frog!" A cheery voice shouted from behind us.

We both turned around and I felt my mood pummeled when I saw it was Alec and Annie walking towards us.

"Don't call me that." Todd scowled, giving his twin a glare.

"Tell mom, I'm hanging out at Alec's house." She beamed, glancing at Alec with a smile.

I bit my lip, giving Annie a polite smile and ignoring Alec's gaze. El pendejo. It's not even 24 hours before they met and he's already inviting her at his house.

(El pendejo: Motherf!cker)

I guess that shouldn't be a surprise, it was the same day we met that I was brought to his house. Jessica was sulking in my brain and I was tempted to roll my eyes.

I didn't even bother to hear what Todd's reply before I turned around and walked off. Staring at the rows of car before making my way towards an Audi R8 Spyder that I wasn't familiar with.

"Hey. Wait up!" I paused in my steps, didn't even bother to turn around.

"Geez. The least you could do is wait for me." He pouted, unlocking his car with his keys and opening the door for me.

"Yeah? and watch your twin do the heart eyes emoji at him? No jodidamente gracias," I scoffed, mumbling a thanks before hopping inside with my skittles on hand.

(No jodidamente gracias: No fcking thank you)

"My sister loves attention especially from guys," He said, turning the ignition on and driving off.

"I could tell from the way she was smooching Alec earlier Todd," I deadpanned, pulling my seatbelt on.

"I think the term should be making out Ellie, I can't take you seriously if you use those kinds of words," He pointed out, stifling a laugh.

"Fine, I'll work on it." I grumbled, crossing my arms in annoyance.

The rest of the drive was consist of Todd asking me directions and occasional small talks.

"Thank you for the ride Todd," I said, closing the car door gently and making my way towards my front porch.

"Ellie?" He called out, making me turned back to him.

"You asked me earlier if I found any friends yet and my answer is yes. You," Todd smiled softly. I couldn't help but smile back, his words somehow giving me comfort.

"And I'm picking you up tomorrow. Bye!" He rushed out before driving off leaving me completely dumbfounded at what he just said.
