-Sparrow-

It was a nice warm crisp morning, the dew formed in small beads across the windowpane as it was slightly adjusted open so the breeze could just dust over my black sleek fur and make my nose tingle.

As I pried my eyes open I squinted at the light adjustment, good thing cats had flexible spines a position like this in human form would surely cause a mad backache for decades.

I unfurled myself from the ball position I was tightly wrapped in and looked out onto the New York streets watching the few drops of rain from last night chase other drops down the glass.

The sun was just rising so I must have woken early, which was very strange for me I usually slept in unless I had a reason to really be awake.

My ear twitched at the sound of someone talking,

I turned my head to notice Megan was now no longer in her makeshift bed.

Georgia was still half off the couch and half on, drool trailing down one of her cheeks onto the carpet, odd shes usually an early bird. But I could hear Megans muffled voice coming from the slightly ajar kitchen door in the apartment.

I quietly leapt from the window sill and made little noise with my soft paws hitting the carpeted floors toward the door leading to the kitchen. Her back was to me as she was pacing left and right rubbing her temple in deep thought.

"Yeah yeah, she's here - well when are you coming? - I don't have all day - what kind of distraction? - well just hurry up I can't guarantee the other one won't wake up and notice what's going on she only drank half of the soda I set up for them last night" she was muttering into the phone.

I snuck around so my ears could pick up on the voices and the other one from the other end of the phone was a deep male one that I'd never heard before.

Dread began to trickle into my gut and I didn't know why. Megans probably just talking with a friend, maybe its her boss or something?

But when the man on the other line began speaking and I depicted "Doesn't it change into a black cat or something, like boss said?"

As far as I knew, I was the only black cat in the apartment. The man had no way of knowing I could shift-if he was talking about me- unless one of my friends or Jhon had told him.

My adoptive dad would never, Georgia was passed out and the only person who seemed to have some sort of communication with the stranger was Megan.

I stilled as I heard a pair of heavy footsteps approach the front door to the apartment.

"finally" she huffed out and I quickly darted under the nearby couch thankful the gap was large enough.

And just in time because she had just turned out of the kitchen a second later and headed over for the door.

I watched her feet as she carefully trotted over to the front entrance peeked through the peep hole and opened the door.

I saw a man and he was dressed in a dark grey suit, he looked professional but the suit clashed with his thick black heavy looking boots, he looked massive. Like the bouncer had been at the club, but it wasn't him.

This guy had light greyish hair and looked older, still he could easily crush me, and compared to Megan she had to strain her head up to look at him.

I crouched lower.

I shuddered as he spoke and bit back a panicked meow, "well?" He sneered impatiently, the voice that had been on the other end of the phone moments ago.

"Relax, relax she's right....here" Megan trailed off when turning to the window sill and finding supposedly me missing.

"I thought you said you drugged them both?!" He burst out frustratedly, that explained why Georgia wasn't waking up anytime soon.

"I thought I did you piece of shit!" She snapped back her fists clenched "then where is she!?" He demanded.

"look, she can't have gone far, shut the door and lock it" Megan said firmly if I wasn't shaking enough before I certainly was now.

They were after me and only now did I notice that I couldn't jump off a 4 story building and survive.

I didn't have much time to think, then I noticed how I barely touched the fizzy drinks she made last night for us when we were watching the movies.

I didn't touch mine because I was still so upset but I remembered thanking her and pretending to at least take a sip so her efforts wouldn't be so wasted.

They began pacing around the room flipping up the couches, in the kitchen raiding the cupboards. I had no time, and my heartbeat was only increasing more by the second as the pair of boots or socked feet passed my hiding position.

I had no time to consider Megan one of my best friends was now working with someone potentially dangerous. I couldn't help but wonder if this was bigger than I anticpitaed.

What did they want with me? and more importantly, why was Megan doing this?

I glanced around the room frantically,

sliding doors to balcony? locked

entrance door? triple-locked

So that I would struggle too much and they would catch me, ceiling? no vents, nothing to cling to, windows? then what? I would fall to my death.

You're running out of options Sparrow think of something!

I was attempting to rule out every possible option but they had me cornered, soon enough the couch was creaking.

With the lifting of it my eyes widened at the man in his tux I heard Georgia roll off the other side with a thud but my eyes were locked on the older man with the greedy grin.

"Found it"

'it' I wanted to scoff but I held back,

"Good, get it in the cage" Megan stalked over smirking coming out from the kitchen again staring down at me. I looked at her with pleading eyes in a last attempt to get her to regret or change what she was doing.

But she only rolled her eyes and went back to tapping away on her phone.

I quickly shifted into human form and spat in the man's face as he reached to grab my neck.

I kicked him in the stomach and he fell back and dropped the couch with a resounding oompf

I shifted again so I wouldn't hit my head and began to sprint for the front door.

"get her you fucking douche bag!"

Shifting into human form I attempted to unlock any one of them or kick on the door but nothing. Everything was locked and I didn't have a key.

"HELP HELP!" I cried out hoping someone, anyone could hear me as I banged on the door with all my might.

But by gods the biggest stroke of luck hit me when the door opened from the other side.

"Thank you thank you!" I cried and looked up to the tall intimidating man. But my heart sunk when his hand wrapped around my throat and I clawed at it as he smiled, a deep ugly smile.

He was thin, tall and lanky, dark brown hair maybe a shade darker than mine was falling over his brows and he was dressed in a deep maroon suit with olive skin.

"what an ugly little girl you turned out to be."

my world swayed as my throat could no longer take in anymore breathes the black spots devoured my vision and the man was swallowed by pitch black.
