Mycah was in a very bad mood.

He had a good reason for it, too. In fact, Mycah had three good reasons for his ill humour.

1. He was stuck in the dreaded middle seat of an overly stuffy plane.

2. The window seat was taken by Arden Fuller, and Mycah really did not like Arden Fuller.

3. Mycah was being forced to go on vacation with Arden Fuller and, as stated in number 2, Mycah really did not like Arden Fuller.

He let out another contemptuous sigh as he huffed further into his slouch. With his arms crossed and his lips turned downwards, he did not doubt he looked the part of a sulking teen.

It was all so unfair, really. It was his summer vacation. His last chance at freedom before entering the dreaded Senior Year, where he was going to have to like, study and shit.

He had a wild summer in mind, but then his parents had to come and drop a bombshell on him. Oh, they'd be vacationing with the Fullers this year. Lucky ole Mycah, spending the whole three months of summer stuck in a house with Arden Fuller.

"You still feeling sorry for yourself over there?" Arden asked, glancing up from his book and giving Mycah a look.

Mycah really did not like Arden. But it was far from a one way street. For as long as the two boys could remember, their hatred had been a mutual feeling.

"Shut up Arden." Mycah huffed, pulling up his hood in an effort to once again show the other boy his disdain.

Arden just snorted, shaking his head lightly before diverting his attention back to his book. Mycah wanted to wipe the smirk right off Arden's face, but his parents were only across the aisle and he wasn't quite sure they would approve of the gesture. For some reason, they seemed to like Arden Fuller.

Mycah couldn't imagine why.

"I bet the guys are getting wasted on the beach right now." Mycah muttered, half to himself and half to Arden.

"It's not even 10am in Virginia at the moment, dumbass." Arden shot back, becoming increasingly annoyed at Mycah's self pity party.

The way he saw it, Mycah should consider himself lucky enough that he could afford to go on holidays. Lord know loads of kids in their grade would kill for a sun vacation.

"Whatever, Fuller." Mycah scowled, pulling at the drawstrings of his hoodie.

"Wow Rhodes, day one and we're already reverting to second names?" Arden mocked, his voice annoyingly positive.

"Day one and I'm already considering pushing you out of this plane." Mycah shot back, glaring over at Arden.

"Wow, now I really can't wait to spend the next three months stuck with you." Arden replied, voice heavy with sarcasm.

"Three months. Don't remind me." Mycah groaned, dropping his face into his hands.

Bad enough as it was that he was being whipped away from his friends, the fact that he'd be stuck on this stupid holiday for the whole summer did nothing but amplify the annoyance.

"Do you ever stop complaining?" Arden asked blankly, looking at Mycah as he spoke.

"It's not without good reason." Mycah huffed, earning him an eye roll from Arden.

"Jesus you're so difficult. You think I've got nothing better to be doing this summer either than spending my time stuck with you? You're not the only one missing out." Arden huffed, all hopes of reading his book in peace lost at this stage.

Even just talking to Mycah put him in a bad mood, and he couldn't read properly when he wasn't calm.

"Now who's the one bitching?" Mycah muttered, shooting daggers at Arden with his glare.

"God you're insufferable. You should try not feeling so sorry for yourself all the time." Arden said with a roll of his eyes, and the gesture was beginning to get on Mycah's nerves.

"But I won't get to hang out with any of my friends all summer." Mycah's whined, fully aware that he sounded like an eight year old and fully aware that he didn't give a shit. His philosophy was that a little self pity every once in a while was good for the soul.

"Me and you both, genius." Arden replied, pulling his earphones out of his jacked pocket. If he could drown out Mycah's incessant whinging the plane journey would surely go a lot faster.

"It's different for me, man. I'm sure your little girlfriend is delighted to have a break from you." Mycah spat out, earning him a look from the other boy.

"My girlfriend?" Arden asked with confusion, continuing to unknot the white earphones.

"Yeah. That Ruth chick you're always hanging out with?" Mycah said, wondering if Arden was being purposely oblique.

"Ruth? Ruth's not my girlfriend." Arden snorted, and Mycah couldn't help but feel admittedly kinda dumb for a second.

"Well whoever she is, I'll bet she's glad to be rid of you for the next three months."

"You're just jealous Mycah. You know the guys are going to miss me more than you." Arden shrugged, finally managing to untangle the mess that was the white earphones. Victory.

"Are not." Huffed Mycah, but Arden, with his earphones popped in, didn't even bother grace him with a reply.

That was yet another fact about Arden that annoyed Mycah so much. Of all the friend groups in the school, of course him and Arden would be part of the same one.

They had known each other since forever, and Arden often told Mycah that the best months of his life were the two months free from Mycah in between their births.

They suffered through kindergarten and elementary together, consistently caught fighting. Or, more specifically, Mycah consistently getting in trouble for fighting whilst Arden was the teacher's pet.

They had gone to different middle schools, thank god for that, but we're lumped together again once high school rolled around. They always seemed to be stuck together. Going on family vacations, being seated together at dinner parties, attending the same high school.

It was purely a horrible coincidence they had ended up in the same group of friends. But seeing as both of them were as stubborn as mules even back then, neither of them would cave and find a new group. That was three years ago, and at this stage it was too late.

Their friends fast grew used to their incessant bickering, and whenever the arguments flared up, they would all just roll their eyes and skulk off, leaving the two of them to scream it out.

Mycah decided to follow Arden's example and listen to his music. The screen in front of him indicated that there was about an hour and a half left until landing time.

Pulling out his phone, Mycah came to the discovery that the stupid thing had ran out of battery. Wow, some higher power really had it out for him today.

"Hey Arden, give me your phone." Mycah said, nudging the other boy to catch his attention. When Arden didn't reply, Mycah reaches over and pulled out the other boy's earphones.

"Fuck off Mycah." Arden spat, putting back in his earphones.

"Come on Arden. I want to listen to music and mine is dead."

"Tough shit asshole."

"Stop being a prick Arden. You have your iPod."

"Like hell am I trusting you with my phone Rhodes." Arden said, casting Mycah a glare.

"Please?" Mycah said, the word burning his throat. Ugh, Arden did not deserve to hear any manners.

"Piss off Mycah."

"Fine, then I'll just keep talking to you." Mycah said, knowing that annoying Arden was perhaps his best chance.

"Then I'll turn up my music." Arden stated, rolling his eyes like Mycah was stupid.

"Then I'll talk louder. Maybe I'll even catch your parents attention." Mycah said smugly, and the look on Arden's face told him that he had won this battle.

Both Arden's and Mycah's parents were always trying to get the boys to get along. On top of that, both boys parents always tried to drill manners into them.

It seemed to work with Arden, who was always so polite and mannerly. Except for when it came to Mycah of course, but that was hardly a surprise.

"Can't have your parents know that you won't share your things, can we Angel?" Mycah pressed. He had began calling the other boy Arden the Angel when they were five. Arden was always such a perfect little child, and it wrecked Mycah's head. The nickname had stuck, and Mycah always pulled it out of the bag to annoy Arden.

"God, you are insufferable." Arden hissed, and of looks could kill Mycah estimated he would be approximately six feet under by now.

Instead of handing over his phone, Arden pulled the earphones out of his iPod, shoving the device over to Mycah before plugging the earphones into his phone. He'd watch hell freeze over before willingly handing over his phone to that prick.

Mycah didn't bother with a thank you, instead shooting Arden a smug smirk that earned him a glare and a middle finger.

What a beautiful friendship they did have.
