I spent hours in that one spot, I fell asleep and awoke to the morning sun in my eyes. I had shifted back to human form and the cold chill of the air caressed my skin

At least I could feel that, the rest of me felt numb, I didn't want to feel again, I didn't want to go back but I knew that I had a duty to Cade and I'd have to go back eventually

I changed back into my wolf form, preferring the warm layer of fur over my human skin. I shook off all the leaves and bits of grass. I decide to go hunting to fill my growling stomach, a rabbit or something would do...

It had already been two days since I left

I wasn't even in our territory, I had ran past the border and ended up in no mans land, a 20km patch of land that separated us and the next pack. I knew I could defend myself but I questioned my sanity with all the rogues that could be lurking out here

I decided I should head back, within an hour I began to smell our border crossing, I looked up and noticed Matt on patrol

He seems to be everywhere...

He runs over to me "dude, are you alright?" He questions me through the link "where the hell did you go?" I couldn't see it in his wolf form but I could hear the concern in his voice

I shook my wolf head "I had to get away for a while" I say as I continue walking "I think I might stay out here a little longer" I sigh, I wasn't completely ready to go back yet, just being on the pack lands made me feel safer though

"I followed your scent here and waited, I knew you'd come back eventually" he smiles in his wolf form "Electra has been distraught" he says and my ears perk up

I turn to face him fully "why?" I ask, was she distraught that we weren't mates or maybe she was just stringing me along... trying to make me feel something

Maybe it was her plan all along

I pushed those thoughts aside, I was angry and I knew it wasn't Electra's fault. She looked just as shocked as I did when she felt nothing

Matt steps closer to me "she knows that you disappeared for weeks a couple of years ago. She thought you running off was her fault and that you weren't coming back" he looks at me sadly, his usual happy face softening. I could see it even in wolf form

This perked my interest "she never found her mate then?" I ask, curiosity getting the best of me

His ears droop "nah, she's been in her room the last two days refusing to leave" he says sadly

I contemplated if I should stay away a few days more but I had to go back "do you have a stash of clothes nearby?" I ask Matt

He starts to walk back toward the pack house "yeah just this way a bit" he says as he turns away

He digs in a spot and pulls out a bag with his teeth, dragging it over to me. It had a pair of pants and a shirt inside. We keep spare clothes in the forest just in case we need them

I shifted back into my human form, not really caring if Matt was nearby, we had shifted around each other a lot of times and neither of us were worried about it

I nod at him and say a "thanks" he nods back and walks back toward the edge of our border to continue his patrol

I sighed as I put the clothes on and walked back toward the pack house, it should only take me an hour at the pace I was going and I was in no hurry to get there

I arrived in the late afternoon, the pack seemed pretty quiet and I managed to get all the way to my room without passing by anyone

I felt strange, my whole body felt uncomfortable and I started to feel warm

I heard a door open at the end of the hall and made a break to quickly get into my room before whoever it was saw me "Kyan!" I heard Electra call after me

I stopped trying to get into my room and rubbed the back of my neck "uh... hey..." I manage to get out

She starts walking toward me, she looked tired as if she hadn't slept in days but she still looked beautiful to me. She had a slight smile that only grew as she got closer to me "thank the goddess you're alright" she says as she gets closer to me

Next thing I know she's pulling me into a hug

Tingles

They start off slowly at first but next thing I know my whole body erupts in tiny pleasureable tingles

Electra pulls away from me, her eyes wide as she studies her arms "do you feel this too?" She asks as her eyes travel from her arms up to my eyes

I let out a shaky breath "yes" I say as she reaches out for my arm her eyes follow her hand as she begins running her fingers down it causing tingles everywhere she touches

She looks curiously back up at me "what does this mean?" She questions

I had only heard stories on what it felt like when you find your mate but I knew it as soon as she touched me "it means we're mates" I say bluntly, not really believing this was happening

She looks shocked for a moment "how? I didn't feel anything on my birthday"

I shrug my shoulders, all I could think about was holding her in my arms

"Kyan?!" I hear someone growl behind me "where the hell have you been?" I know it's Cade

I turn to face him, his expression looks almost concerned and a little angry. Electra pokes her head out from behind me and his expression changes to complete anger

He crosses his arms "what's going on?" He questions, his voice deeper than usual

I cross my arms as well and glare at him "she's my mate" I say and I feel Electra grab my elbow, the tingles spreading from where she touches me. I look down at her and my expression softens.

Cade grabs hold of her arm and pulls her away "hey!" I say as I push him in the chest and pull Electra back toward me

He growls and I growl right back at him "I told you what would happen if you went after her, Kyan!" He pauses, his anger increasing "she cannot be your mate, you two felt nothing at the mating ceremony!" He yells, causing almost everyone who gathered around us to cower a little. It didn't effect me though

My anger was getting the best of me "I don't know how it happened but I can feel it Cade, she is my mate" I yell

Cade was nearly at the point of shifting "Kyan Theloneous Baxter, I Alpha Cade Marcus Harris, hereby kick you...." I cut him off from his attempt at kicking me out of the pack

I step forward, anger flowing through me "I challenge you to the title of alpha!" I almost scream, the anger radiating off me, I hear a few people gasp from around me

Cade seethes with anger "challenge accepted!" He yells

He turns to make his way to the training area and I begin to follow him. I feel tingles on my arm "Kyan, what are you doing?" Electra asks me, concern evident on her face

Even I didn't know the answer to that question

We make it to the training area, a crowd has gathered around us. We both shift quickly, tearing the clothes we wear off of us

He snaps his jaws at me and I do the same right back at him, we growl at each other, neither one of us backing down

He lunges forward, I jump out of the way just in time and turn my head to snap at his back legs, I miss. His black wolf turns and grabs at my hip, ripping a piece of me out with it, I groan in pain

I can see his wolf grinning but I don't give him a chance to relish in his success, I turn my head and grab hold of his hind leg. Biting hard. I hear bone snap as my jaw tightens, this injury will weaken him significantly

He doesn't let me hold on long, he turns his body and snaps at my face, taking a piece of my ear off which makes me pull away

We circle each other, he's limping and I so far hadn't suffered any significant injury

I jump forward suddenly, his weak back leg making him topple over, I make a lunge at his neck but he rolls himself over, grabbing my front paw and biting hard

I wimpered as I hear bones break, I bite at his face and he lets go. Quickly moving away from me

We both growl at each other, I take my weight off my paw and his eyes flicker to it. I could see the grin on his face even in his wolf form

He jumps at me swiping at my back leg, ripping a long claw mark down it which makes me fall, his teeth lunge for my throat but I kick him in the guts ripping at his soft underside

He growls in pain and I take it as an opportunity to push him over with my legs, my jaw goes for his neck, I bite down hard, feeling bones crack and blood fill my mouth. He's gasping for air

The alpha title fight is a fight to the death and I was seconds from taking it.
