Chapter 21 *Unedited

‘He gave up on me’

My heart felt empty and hallow, as I stayed put outside. The early morning breeze seemed colder and harsher slapping me against my numb cheek. I leaned against the sleek car trying to trap the warmth around my shivering body.

“Stay right here, I’ll go sort out this mess,” Rizvan said cupping my cheek and giving me a small reassuring smile. I nodded as he unclicked the locks to his car. I caught the door of the house open slowly and Marcus strode out, his dark ponytail whipping in the breeze.

“She’s asleep,” He said and motioned Rizvan towards the dirt road. I winced as I caught his cold glare.

“Stay inside, I’ll be back soon,” Rizvan said smiling softly and walking along with Marcus and out of my sight.

My hand locked on to the door handle of the car but I stopped, standing still and staring at the tall brick house which casted a shadow over the narrow driveway.

My mind was forcing me towards the house, but Rizvan told me to stay here. But do I want to stay here? I firmly believed that one must listen to both sides of the story. I couldn’t blindly follow Rizvan’s words.

That would be injustice towards Aisha.

I stepped away from the car and turned around scanning the dirt road but found it silent and quite. I backed away from the car and jogged towards the house. I pulled in a deep breath and pushed the gold doorknob down and allowed myself into the house.

I was greeted with pitch silence and darkness. I ran my hands through the plain walls searching for the light switch. I flipped the switch on and slammed straight into the glass table out of shock.

A high-pitched scream left my mouth as my heart thundered at the sight.

She was sat on the grey couch her head in her hands as she softly sobbed. Her cold eyes glanced up from her hands and locked with mine. I hadn’t heard her quite sobs.

“He loves you. He loves you like crazy. He was with me, but screaming your name,” she sobbed and rocked on the couch. She looked out of her mind, lost and speaking utter nonsense.

I stood frozen staring at her state. Her hands lay protectively over her stomach as tears fell from her eyes.

“I…”

“You’re sorry, are you not?” She whispered cutting through my words.

I paused.

“No. I’m not sorry. I’m just here to hear what you have to say.”

“Then I’ll say it now. This baby belongs to Rizvan,” She shouted as she stood from the couch, holding on to her stomach. Her eyes shone with desperation.

“What about Zayn?” I whispered.

This was the reason why I was here. I wanted Zayn to come out clean. I wanted this baby to belong to Rizvan. I just needed a reason to return home and continue to live my old life.

This woman could give me that reason to pack up and run.

Her face fell and her eyes dropped to the ground.

“He was with me,” she whispered and my heart froze and my mind blurred. The pain was too much to bear. It hurt knowing he was with this woman.

“You’re lying,” I whispered.

“You’re lying. Tell me the bloody truth and I’ll leave Rizvan, you can have him. You can have your family,” I screamed as I felt the tears return.

This was wrong, everything was wrong. They were feeding me bullshit.

“It’s true,” she whispered. She waddled towards me taking my hands in her and forcing my eyes to meet hers.

“I was wrong. You have no idea how much guilt I have bottled inside me. I thought I was love in with him, but that man isn’t capable of love,” she said moving my shoulders softly.

Her words felt foreign, they held no meaning.

I backed away ready to leave the room. Having enough of her words and the tears which threatened to fall from her eyes.

“I’m going to marry Rizvan. Because he’s the innocent one, why should he be forced to accept you and a bastard,” I said and watched her eyes gloss over.

“My child is not a bastard,” she screamed.

“I did what I did because I was forced to marry Rizvan. I loved Zayn but he only used me. He used me to keep both his wives away. You both sisters were haunting him,” she shouted.

“Maybe we were. And he may have used you Aisha, but he used you illegally. What you did was a sin,” I spit in disgust and watched the swirl of shock and guilt shine in her plain eyes.

“It was love.”

“The same love me and Rizvan once had. But we stayed within out limits,” I shouted loosing all patience.

“I know. I know now, and I’m sorry. What more can I do?” She whispered.

“You can pick up your bags and call Zayn, he should know he’s going to be a father soon,” my words where cold and harsh. I could feel the undeniable pain course through my body as the words left my mouth.

“Go back to him,” She said softly, causing me to glance at her round figure.

“So you can have your family back? After ruining mine you want yours back? How can you expect me to walk away now, how do you expect me to walk away when I have man who’s willing to loose everything over me?”

“Because you’ve gotten your revenge. Rizvan will never call his child his own. Isn’t that enough a punishment. My child will be left fatherless, he won’t get the respect, and it’ll be called a bastard.” She said and sunk onto the couch letting the tears stain her creamy white shirt.

“He left you for me. Zayn left me for you Aliyah. It was only a year, after Malika died we came across each other and this started. After a year he was all yours, he told me to go back to my life,” she whispered.

“If he could use, there’s plenty more woman he would have used after you,” I stated.

I turned around finding the doorknob and swinging the door open.

“Your confused. You’re stuck between Rizvan and Zayn. You love Zayn but you deny it.” I heard her last words before I let the door slam shut.

The breeze caused me to shiver as I found Rizvan standing there staring at me. Marcus stood behind him, frozen in his tracks.

“I have two plane tickets for London,” He whispered as I nodded and moved past him walking towards the car.

I felt numb and empty; I couldn’t find the right people. I was stuck. I was alone and lost.

My hand latched on to the door as I pulled open it open but stopped as the front door to the house slammed open again for the second time.

Her face was full of tears and her hair was a tangle. She froze the conversation between Marcus and Rizvan.

“Aliyah,” she shouted.

“I’m sorry. I’m so sorry, but he’s coming. I’m doing this for my baby,” I heard her voice.

“You bitch,” Rizvan roared shocking me, I watched his hand lift ready to slice through her cheek before Marcus stood protectively in front of her. He shook his head in disgust as Rizvan’s hand fell and his shoulder slumped. He was never one full of violence. He was the opposite of Shah, always calm and laid back.

Zayn was coming. He knew I had run away. This was the truth.

“I did this for us both. Forgive me, please… forgive me,” I heard her sobs but my mind couldn’t register the meaning of her words.

Zayn was coming.

I heard the car pull up and Rizvan’s eyes fell on the car. He ran towards me fishing for his keys in his pocket as his eyes widened. Before he could reach the car, the headlights illuminated the tight driveway blinding us all. The door to the coal black car swung open as the rattling sound the of engine faded in with the early breeze.

I turned around and watched Zayn stride out. His dark hair moved in the soft breeze and his icy blue eyes bore into mine. My heart piped up at the sight. His broad shoulders filled up his loose white shirt. His thick brows drawed attention to his unique eye colour.

There and then I realized that I loved him.

All along I was chasing a man I know longer had feelings for.

“You left us. I thought you would stay for a little while longer. But you left Aliyah, you gave up so quick.” His voice was painful and scarred me.

I wanted to run towards him and hold on to him forever. Never let him go.

I could feel the tears gather up. This man always found some way to bring about those tears.

I felt Rizvan’s hand wrap around mine as he tugged me towards him.

“Don’t listen to him please. Don’t leave me,” I heard his whisper as his hand gripped mine tightly.

Zayn’s icy blue stare fell on Rizvan’s hand around mine. He moved towards me, each step precise.

“I’m sorry Aliyah,” he whispered his eyes trained on mine.

He wants me back.

My heart sped up as I waited for him to ask me to come back. To return home, to Canada where there was peace. We lived under the same roof and there where no problems. I wanted to continue to pretend to be a happy wife and mother. I never thought I would ask for my old life. The life I had lived for 5 years in silence.

“Forgive me for everything I have done. I came here to wish you the best of luck,” Rizvan’s hand fell from mine as he stared at Zayn’s rigid body. He expected a fight. I expected a fight not the words that left his mouth. He was letting me go so easily.

He wouldn’t.

“I’ll have the divorce papers ready and sent.” These were his last words before he left.

“No. Zayn no! You can’t do this, take her with you,” I heard Aisha scream as she struggled against Marcus’s grasp.

I stood motionless watching him return to his car.

Zayn Shah had given up on me.
