**Dasha's POV until specified**
"Hey mom," I answered while I was flipping through recipes.
"Hey sweetie, I'm sorry I haven't called. Things were... a bit complicated for a few days."
"I figured they were." I dog-eared a page and continued flipping through the book. "Everything okay now?"
"There's some things I want to talk to you about but that can wait for now. How's Hayden?"
"He's... dealing with it in his own way. We're fine, it just took everyone by surprise."
"It did."
"Is everything okay though?"
"It'll resolve itself, but I don't want to discuss it over the phone."
"Are you able to tell me what it's about?"
"Your grandfather."
That could be a multitude of things so I wasn't thinking it was life threatening. He probably just wanted to talk to me about my decision.
"Okay. Is it alright if they don't come to my graduation? Or were you wanting them too?"
"We'll discuss that in person if that's okay."
I frowned and tapped my foot. What would change her mind to where she would tell me no indirectly? I know it sounds terrible to not want them at any of my events but I didn't, not after the other day.
"Okay then. I guess we should meet up soon to talk about that? I need to send out the cards announcing my graduation."
"We will, I promise. Tell Hayden I apologize for their behavior and I hope to see you two here soon?"
"Of course mom. I'll be helping Rose plan a baby shower at some point, so you'll need to keep your phone by you. There's probably a lot of questions coming your way."
"That's fine." She laughed, "I'm just glad I'm not considered a grandparent just yet."
"Even when I do, you and dad will be the "young and hip" grandparents."
"That makes me feel so much better," she teased.
I didn't know how to tell Hayden that night about my mom calling and decided it could wait for now. No sense in bringing up the impending meeting until I knew for sure when it was. I had also looked into some businesses out in Cali that I could possibly apply for. Granted a lot of them required "experience" and I had none there was still a chance. The only thing I was concerned about was the pricing of everything.
"I looked into some stuff in California."
"I actually emailed a couple of professors today as well out there." Hayden grinned while I tried to contain my excitement.
"I have no doubt you'll be able to teach somewhere and get your PhD as well. Anyone would want to be taught by you," I commended with a wink.
"True. Do we know where Rosemary is wanting to live? I know you said San Francisco but is it actually in San Fran or outside?"
"I'll have to ask her, she didn't say. But we need to start looking for a place soon if we all are about to move out there."
"What is Tyson going to do?"
I set my fork down and frowned, "honestly I have no idea. He hasn't mentioned much."
"Would you be able to convince him to move out there as well?"
"Probably not, but he may move to a state that's relatively close. I'm not really sure what he's hoping to get job wise when we finish."
"I can't believe we're actually going to do this," he mused. "Are you wanting to get married out there? Or are we going to plan on getting married here and just plan from a few states away."
"Shit, I didn't even think about that." I took a sip of my water and thought for a few minutes. "I guess it's easier to plan here since we know the areas and such. I couldn't really ask people to come to Cali unless we find a venue that's to die for or something."
"Agreed. Though I'm sure they wouldn't mind coming out there if we did. Just something to think about."
"Want to go swimming?" I asked later that night as we were both doing our on thing but on the couch together.
"Where's a pool that we can go to without being noticed?" Hayden looked at me while I thought.
"Doesn't one of your friends have a pool?"
"Yes, hang on." He leaned over and called whomever it was while I waited patiently.
"Chance, hey." Hayden rubbed my leg gently as he continued talking. "Listen, I have a weird favor to ask."
He waited as something was said over the line and he chuckled, "not that weird. Can Dasha and I come over and borrow your pool? Yes, I know that we have one close by but a lot of college students use it."
I giggled while he rolled his eyes playfully. Most likely it was going to be a yes, knowing his friends only gave him crap because of our unlikely predicament.
"Go get dressed," Hayden put his hand over the receiver before replying. "Thank you Chance, and I'm sure Lisa will be thrilled to see us."
Running up the stairs, I went to my drawer and grabbed the first bikini I saw. It was one of my personal favorites that was white on the sides and hot pink on the rest.
"Hey babe?" I called while I changed quickly before he could walk in and see.
"Yes?" He came up behind me and tied my top while standing super close.
"When we move, can we get a pool in our backyard?" I turned around and kissed his jaw. "Or somewhere with a pool relatively close."
"We can," he kissed me properly, "but remember. After we move, it won't matter where we go. No one is going to know what we were once leaving."
"True." I left to grab the towels as he changed into his swim shorts.
"Dasha! It's so good to see you!" Lisa greeted me as we entered the house.
"Thank you for letting us crash your pool, I hope it wasn't an inconvenience."
"Not at all! Feel free anytime, I heard you were here earlier using our punching bag Hayden." She gave him a look as Chance cleared his throat.
"She's just glad you came back so she could say hi."
Lisa nodded and retreated to the kitchen to get drinks. "Do you want anything?"
"No thank you!" I called and followed the men outside.
"I'll join you in a minute." Hayden whispered as he and Chance both sat down on the recliners to discuss something.
Shrugging, I slipped out of my cover-up and jumped into the pool with a giggle. It felt nice to be able to just relax for a short while and act my age. Hayden wasn't that much older but I knew there were times when I was definitely the least mature in the group. It wasn't by much but the impression was there at times.
Glancing up, I saw Hayden nodding at whatever Chance was telling him. Hopefully it was good was all I prayed for.
"Incoming!" Hayden yelled while I slipped under the water to avoid getting splashed.
Hayden grabbed me and pulled me towards him as I managed to keep my mouth closed. Good thing I knew him well enough to be able to know what he was up to when it came to shenanigans.
"I can leave if you don't want to keep it PG!" Chance called once we resurfaced and I gasped.
"You're hilarious" Hayden called back as his friend chuckled and said something to Lisa while she appeared.
"What did Chance say?" I pushed away from him to float on my back.
Hayden went under before resurfacing and shaking his hair like some swimsuit model. "He knows people in California and Nevada that I can get in touch with. We were comparing notes basically."
"Sweetheart that's great!"
"Mhm, I'll make some more calls this week and see what I can find out for sure."
Chance got up and went back inside while Lisa stayed and flipped through a travel magazine. "He thinks he heard the doorbell, he'll be back."
"Not a problem." Hayden faced me and whispered, "want to see who can make a bigger splash?"
"How old are we?" I teased as he swam over to the side of the pool to go off the diving board.
"Five, and a half." He stood proudly before walking with a kid-like demeanor towards the board.
I swam backwards to avoid getting in his path once he got on the edge of it.
"Ready?"
"Wait," Lisa stood up and pulled her chair back about a foot, "just in case."
He nodded and looked at me with a wicked grin. "Baby I could reach you from there."
"I'm at the steps love, there's no way."
"Bet." He took one jump before grabbing his knees and plopping into the water with a splash that did indeed drench my face.
When he surfaced he chuckled at my expression while making sure Lisa hadn't been splashed.
"I'm good," she raised her hands.
"Hayden," Chance said as he stepped back out and shut the door slowly.
"What's up?"
"Your phone keeps ringing. I don't recognize the number but they haven't stopped calling. " He held up the phone as Hayden and I both got out of the pool.
Reaching for it, he looked at the number and frowned. "I'll be right back," and walked inside to take the call.
"Was it an in state number?" Lisa asked him.
"Yeah, but it's been calling him for the last ten minutes."
We all sat and waited for Hayden to return and tell us what the hell was going on. Sure he got incessant calls sometimes but that was usually regarding another professor who couldn't remember something regarding a meeting.
I grabbed a magazine from the table and flipped through it without a second thought, hoping for time to pass.
"I'm sure it's nothing too," Lisa stopped when the door opened and Hayden stepped out.
"Hayden, who was it?"
"Just some stupid company selling something. I don't know why they called so many times, but I'm off their call list now." He shrugged, "we might as well head out though. It's getting late."
"Okay. Thank you guys for letting us borrow your backyard even for a short while." I hugged Chance and Lisa briefly.
"Anytime! You're welcome to come as long as we're home," Lisa smiled as we got into our car.
Once we entered the neighborhood, Hayden looked in the rearview mirror and frowned. "Is that a cop?"
I glanced in the side mirror and nodded, "yeah. Cops patrol at night sometimes, I wouldn't worry about it. Just park in the garage and I'll get out then."
He agreed and pulled into the driveway as the cop car slowed down and stopped outside our house. What the hell?
"Um..." Hayden sat in the car for a moment and pulled his phone out, "I'm going to pretend to be on the phone okay? Come in with me but go to the media room and don't come out alright?"
"I can stay in the car. That'll be easier. Just text me once he leaves."
Hayden nodded and went inside to go answer the door for the cop who I assumed had already made it up to the doorway.
Grabbing my phone, I dialed Tyson and held my breath as he answered.
"Hey, what's up?"
"Tyson, I have an issue."
"What's going on Dash?"
"There's a cop at our house."
"Where are you?"
"In the garage." I looked around the car and grabbed my purse along with my car keys. It's a good thing we had parked my car in the garage the other day.
"Can you leave?"
"No, Hayden just pulled up when the cop did. I'm currently hiding out until he leaves. I don't know what it's about though."
"It could be university related."
"A cop showing up to his house this late at night?"
He didn't say anything on the other end as we waited for a few minutes. This was not looking good.
"Tyson, what if he knows."
"He can't Dasha."
"Call Sean, I'm calling Rose."
"Good idea," he hung up as my fingers shook and I cursed myself. Surely I was wrong.
The door opened as Hayden stepped out before I could finish calling Rose. That would have to wait for now.
He beckoned for me to get out while I tried to get a reading on his face. Why did he look so calm?
"Is he gone?"
"Yes, but you'll need to go home in a few hours."
"Hayden, what's going on."
"He asked me if someone else lived here. I said my sister had been staying with me as she had been looking for a new place to live. The officer just wanted to let us know that there's been some theft in the neighborhood. Some break ins or something."
"Weird, don't they usually just post notices or something?"
"Usually." He shrugged, "I forgot to check the mail, I'll be back."
I sat on the couch and texted Tyson telling him it was nothing to worry about. If it was just break ins that was something we could keep an eye out on.
"I'm going to head on out, I'll take the long way back."
"Alright love, I'll see you tomorrow?"
"Of course. Just text me first. I love you."
"Love you too. Drive safe."
I kissed him one last time before driving to my place. Hopefully Rose was there so I could ask her some things I had thought of regarding a baby shower. There still was the unasked question of if Sean and Rose were going to get engaged anytime soon, which I assumed they would after the recent news of the baby. With everything going on it was safe to assume we would all be busy for the next few months.
When I walked in, Rose was sitting in the recliner with her legs crossed and a bag of sour skittles in her hand. She looked guilty and swallowed before saying anything. "I was craving these like crazy."
"Well we know now that your child has a sweet tooth."
"Dear God that's the last thing I need. I don't want to gain that much weight."
"Here," I stuck my hand out as she gave me a few. "I'll help you eat them. You'll feel less guilty now."
"Ha-ha" she enunciated before giggling. "I guess we'll have to start thinking of baby names soon."
"Wait until we know the gender. Then you and Sean can begin planning? Unless you have that intuition."
"I do, but I'm not like a hundred percent sure. Part of me thinks it's a boy though."
"I'm going to lose my bet to Ty then if it's not a girl."
"Why's that?"
"Because I'll have to buy him a plane ticket to San Francisco when the two of you move. So if it's a boy, I pay. Girl, he pays."
"Ohh, now I see." Rose chewed a couple more skittles and handed me the bag. "Here, for your sorrows when we find out that it is indeed a boy and not a girl."
"Fine." I grabbed the bag and made a mental note to call Tyson later about the plane tickets.
**I don't know why I struggled with writing this chapter but I did. Now that it's done I'm working on the next one fervently because more surprises are coming! How do we feel about Haysha as the ship name? Went back and looked at the comments and I really liked that one! I'll be going back to look at baby names too as they're all great!
#TeamHaysha is literally about to be a thing.**
