Episode 45: Helplessly

"I think Nicholas is still mad at me."

"Mad? And what do you mean by 'still'? What happened between you two?"

Emily bit down onto the edge of her fingernails as she stared straight ahead from the seat of the trailer van.

She could see the supposed root of their problems outside, his sunshine smile lighting up the atmosphere. That amicable aura of his caused everyone around to absolutely adore him. Even the director treated him like his own flesh and blood. There wasn't anyone who didn't like a guy like Taylor McNabb.

Except Nicholas, her subconscious corrected her swiftly.

Talia didn't miss the pout on her lips as she gazed out the fairly dark windows.

It didn't bring her any comfort to see that the line of vision ended up at her younger male co-star.

"Don't tell me..."

She sighed deeply.

"He's feeling threatened by Taylor for some reason."

"What?!"

Talia couldn't imagine someone like Nicholas King, the youngest billionaire in the entertainment business and most influential person of 2019 (possibly the new year too) to be threatened by a boy like him.

It looked ridiculous to even compare both of them much less comprehend in which aspects Nicholas could've felt he fell short.

Then a sudden assumption was built as she racked her brain for answers.

Talia's dark eyes settled onto the small woman before her.

"It's because of you, isn't it? You're the one making Nicholas feel as if Taylor has a chance with you."

She hated how her manager made the latter part of that a statement instead of a question like it should've been.

Giving her the stink eye, Emily shifted in her seat.

Her lips trembled continuously before the words came out.

"I am not."

"Then why does he feel threatened? Don't tell me it's because he's paranoid because yes, successful men like him can be. But after meeting him and knowing his personality well enough, I can figure out that's really not the case."

"And it's not."

"Then what is it?"

"He says what you did earlier, okay? That I'm giving Taylor chances to get me. We went to the park the other day when his parents came to visit and we bumped into him there. Nicholas wasn't letting me off with hiding our relationship even though he clearly said he would and told Taylor we were married."

With her mouth hanging on the floor, Talia stared at her wide eyed. "He did what?! Is Nicholas crazy? How could he do that without us releasing some kind of article to break the news? Wait. Without your consent. He can't just go around telling people who you work with about your personal life. What if Taylor goes and runs his mouth to the rest of the cast? Worse, to the press? This is completely different than telling your family members. Even they haven't been interested enough to want to share it with anybody on the outside mainly because of jealousy. Something this big happened and you decide to tell me almost a week later?"

"I didn't tell you because I knew you'd react like this! As you've said, it's been almost a week since it happened and luckily there's been no release of the news of our marriage. I guess Taylor respects my personal life enough not to do that."

"Emily, we can't find comfort in that. He can tell the world that you're married if he still feels up to it. Like maybe when you piss him off like you're known to do with many people."

"It doesn't matter. We're planning on revealing our relationship after my series airs anyway. The new year is almost a month away. Plus, Taylor and I don't have any bad blood..."

Talia's shoulders sagged in slight relief.

"At least I don't think so." Emily added as she recalled how dramatically he had reacted at the park upon meeting Nicholas.

Should she tell Talia that the two of them practically hate each other because Taylor most likely has a crush on her?

Folding her arms in a challenging manner, Talia held the brunette with a searing gaze. "What exactly do you mean by that?"

Guess she couldn't wiggle her way out of this one after that slip of the tongue.

"I-" Clearing her throat, her client's eyes redirected themselves outside where the main character of their talk had suddenly gone missing. "I think Taylor likes me."

Her stomach shifted uneasily and she noticed that the hands that hugged herself were pinching into her skin. The brunette released her hands but then she couldn't figure out what to do with them, so instead they clasped and unclasped each other as if in constant need of touch and reassurance.

Looking back at Talia was like staring at your parents after knowing they'd caught onto your stupid lie you had told them. Like saying you'd be staying over at your friend's house when you knew fully well you were spending the night with a boy.

Not that Emily ever did that.

The point was that it was terrifying.

"He likes you?" Her manager echoed as she stared uninterestingly at her long nails. The various colours of them looked pretty in contrast to the dark skin of her fingers. Emily knew fully well she wasn't admiring them though. She was trying to reign in her anger.

"Mhm."

It was difficult for her to produce more than that sound in this mood.

"Yet you want me to believe that the two of you have no bad blood? Emily, are you stupid?"

Her mouth drew into a fine line at the insult but she knew better than to argue with Talia when she was in this state. It made sense for her to be livid knowing that the one person who could cause a huge scandal about her secret marriage was also the one who liked her.

To be honest, he had all the motives to spill on her, whether out of jealousy or anger.

But her manager was missing the important point here - he hasn't.

Taylor hadn't told a soul about her tying the knot with Nicholas and it didn't seem like he was planning to do so with how much he kept a respectable distance from her on set.

Call her naive, but she wasn't seeing any serious harm being done here.

"Do you really think he wants the two of you to be happily married while having a crush on you? Does that make sense?"

"We're speaking hypothetically here. We don't know if he actually has a crush on me and even if he does, is that something that's incredibly taboo? He liked me before knowing I was married. Now that he's been enlightened, he's being considerably cautious around me."

"That's even more suspicious!"

"I don't think so. I think he's being understanding of my availability. Which is, that it's no more. That only leaves him to be respectful which he's been nothing but. I can't even recall the last time we spoke together alone. If anything, I think he has moved on already which wouldn't be very surprising since he's sought after by many actresses and singers. I heard he even turned down giving Sofia Richie his number at this year's Halloween bash."

If Talia could've ran a hand through her afro she would've but she just had it trimmed and didn't want to mess it up. All in all, she was extremely overwhelmed by this situation. She didn't know what would be the best approach right now.

"You better be ready to have your marriage announced January like you say," Talia pointed at her strictly.

Emily nodded in obligation, relieved that she was seeing things her way.

That was until she commented on someone who had caused this entire conversation in the first place.

"Now I see why Nicholas lost his mind over this. Can't say I'm on his side after letting his mouth slip to Taylor but I'm definitely not on yours either."

"Gee, thanks."

A sour look was the only response given and wordless as it was, it brought the same effect as any explicit.

"You should try and make it up to him."

Emily huffed.

As if she didn't know that much already.

"I mean, if you keep making him anxious about this issue I don't think you're gonna have a marriage to announce next year."

Her caramel eyes expanded out of fear.

"What do you think I should do?"

"Why are you asking me? You're his wife. I know the two of you didn't start out on the right foot, but you're both head over heels for each other now. At this point in time you should already know what he likes."

"Do you think I should buy him something?"

"What doesn't a rich businessman like him have already? Just show him some love and affection. Works like a charm every time. Well, at least that's what I've heard..."

The 'L' word once again made Emily's heart race like a cheetah who had been hunting all day.

"I think I'll just stick with getting him a gift."

Her manager gave her an odd look but said nothing other than, "Remember - it's the thought that counts."

"I know, I know." She dismissed anxiously.

Talia felt her phone vibrate inside her coat pockets and fetched it out. Looking down, she felt a smirk stretch across her face.

"I thought you said he was mad."

"What?"

She showed Emily the phone screen with the text message which informed her that the actress' husband was on his way to pick her up.

She bit down onto her lips as she tried to fight the silly smile that wanted to overtake her face.

"Why's he texting you instead of me?"

"What? Are you jealous?" Talia teased the girl before her while pinching her cheeks.

Rolling her eyes, Emily checked her phone to see a similar message.

She smiled.

"Satisfied?"

Emily nodded cheekily.

"He only texted me to make sure that I don't bring you home while he's on his way. Not to mention how you hardly check your phone while working."

"You're the one who created that rule," the girl pouted at her manager.

"And with good reasons. Now, go and get changed so that I can take you to your hubby."

Emily cringed.

"Don't."

Fifteen minutes later, Emily found herself being escorted by her manager to an inconspicuous car parked nearby. It was the sleek, black Kia K900 which she'd caught a glimpse of inside the enormous garage back home among others.

Despite being at a distance away from the site, it still drew the attention of a few passing workers.

Emily hurried over, not wanting to stay long enough for anyone to start gossiping or worse, for them to see Nicholas inside.

She waved goodbye to Talia as David came out of the front seat. It was a surprise to see him because she had expected Nicholas came on his own because he was using a personal car.

"Long time no see, Mrs. King."

"Same to you, David," she gave him a bright smile. He was amazed for a second before he snapped out of it. The man prayed his boss hadn't caught that moment of weakness. "You're doing well I assume?"

"As good as one can be in my position. I have your husband to thank for it."

Emily expressed her gratitude once more as he opened the side door to allow for her to slip inside.

As she sat down, the woman began to wonder if something happened and Nicholas wasn't able to make it because the seats were empty.

Then why didn't David tell her?

Her eyes scanned the car before they landed on a figure in the far corner beside her. She almost jumped in fright.

"Did I startle you?" Nicholas grinned like a Cheshire cat.

"Why is it so dark?"

It was already evening and the lack of light in the vehicle didn't make things much better.

"Sorry." He said as he reached an arm up and switched on the light above them.

"Better?"

"Much." She said as she slipped the oversized jacket off her, revealing her long-sleeved dress.

"Why are you wearing a dress when it's so cold outside?" He couldn't help but ask.

"Because somebody decided to tell me last minute they were coming to pick me up so I had to slip on whatever to meet them."

He looked as her sheepishly.

"It's not a big deal though. I'm used to filming in any conditions, whether extremely hot or cold. I remember when I had to film during a heat wave once and we couldn't reschedule because the location wouldn't be available until a week later. That would've pushed back everything so I had to bite my teeth and pull through it. Though it came out nicely, I still felt the brunt of rashes as a consequence. As you know, my body's very sensitive."

"Was it for that movie with the mentally ill roommate who was obsessed with you?"

"Yeah, Roommates. You've watched it?"

"Last week. I've seen most of your works except that one which happens to be one of the reasons why you became my secretary's favourite actress."

"David has incredible taste." She complimented loud enough for the man to hear and smirk through the rearview mirror.

Nicholas rolled his eyes.

Just as David was about to start reversing out the production site, a familiar figure was headed towards them.

"David, roll up the partition quickly." Nicholas instructed, making Emily confused because she knew he'd seen him coming as well.

Taylor caught sight of Emily just before Nicholas clicked the lights back off, engulfing them back into the darkness she had been complaining about earlier.

As he approached the car, she felt Nicholas touch her, his hand grasping her thigh.

"Take your panties off," he whispered.

What? A delicious tingle ran down her spine.

"Do it." He commanded quietly when she said nothing but stare at him dumbfounded.

Emily swallowed harshly as she blinked, looking right at him.

He wasn't joking. Not an inkling of humor was on his face. He was dead serious. Realizing that, every muscle in her tightened from excitement and nervousness. With one last glare, he got her submitting and reaching under her dress to slip off the piece of clothing.

Right then, he lowered his body with a smirk on his face so that Taylor couldn't see him.

What is he going to do? Emily thought fearfully as he rolled up the window only to her neck's level.

Discreetly he placed his hand on her ankle, startling her for a second, and his hand travelled swiftly up her leg, skating deliciously over the front of that area. She had to stifle the gasp of surprise with a subtle hand as she coughed a little.

He's crazy.

"Hey, Emily," Taylor began awkwardly as he rubbed the back of his neck. He could hardly make out anything because of how dark the car was but her face was visible enough.

"I just wanted to talk about what happened at the park the other day. Truth be told, it's been eating me alive. I know I was out of line to...disrespect the person who you were with and whatever you have going on. If the two of you are married for real then I want you to know that I won't say anything about it to anyone."

The sudden sensation of being toyed with down below made Emily almost moan in front of Taylor. With him having no idea what they were up to. Wrapping his free arm around her waist, Nicholas pulled Emily to him a little, forcing her to lean forward as naturally as she could on the car seat. He held her in place as his fingers started their explorations.

Holy shit...why here? She puzzled over, feeling disquieted.

Taylor was saying something along the lines of being sorry about avoiding her on set but she wasn't paying attention. She was focused on every little movement of Nicholas' fingers. Making circles, moving forward, backward, as the clueless boy before them struggled to apologize.

Again she stifled an audible sound when his fingers found the spot which made her weak.

"Bingo," he whispered triumphantly as he slipped another lengthy finger inside making her squirm.

How could he do this to her with Taylor standing right here? What was he trying to prove?

"I'd suggest you keep still if you don't want him hearing," he warned, murmuring against the inside of her thigh but she heard it. Being hyper-sensitive of her surroundings and all.

Emily was flushed, warm and desirous as Taylor finished up his speech, most of which she had missed.

Nicholas' fingers continued their ministrations, sliding in and out of her more easily, again and again.

Why was she getting more turned on by this?

It was embarrassing.

She wanted to yell at him and tell him to stop...

and continue.

"Are you okay?" She heard the guy before her ask in concern and her head snapped in his direction.

"Huh?"

"It just seems like you're in pain or something."

At that, the bastard below pressed against her bundle of nerves, speeding up his pace.

Emily had a feeling somebody else was going to be in pain soon enough. But for now, she had to surrender because she couldn't fight it anymore. She needed to get that release.

"J-Just a headache that's all."

"Really? I have some painkillers in my bag back there. If you give me a minute I could go and grab them-"

"No!"

He looked at her, startled.

She cleared her throat.

"I mean...there's no need. I'm headed back home right now. I'll just ask my driver to buy some on the way."

Taylor's shoulders fell.

Emily felt bad for subtly grinding herself against the man beneath her in that moment.

God, she was an awful person.

And Nicholas was no better!

After all this time of not touching her, he chose now. She hated to admit it but the situation was only heightening the desire she felt for him, making her needy again.

Helplessly so.

It would be in both their interests to wrap up this conversation before she gave herself away.

"Thanks for speaking to me so honestly, Taylor. I really appreciate you keeping my secret as well. And don't worry about it, I've already forgotten about what happened at the park. Everybody makes mistakes."

"Thanks, Em."

Emily felt Nicholas stiffen between her legs and she knew why.

That was what he always called her apart from his playful nicknames.

Displaying how affected he was, Nicholas was intent on making Emily lose her mind right then and there.

He was done playing nice.

With one flick of his tongue, Emily jumped out of her seat, startling Taylor in the process as well.

She looked down at Nicholas in disbelief that he had actually done that.

All he did was stare at her deadpan.

Almost as if he was telling her she had it coming to her.

Again, she realized he was batshit crazy.

Now Taylor was looking at her as if she was the one who had lost a few screws upstairs.

Pity he didn't know the problem lied down below.

"T-Taylor, I think I have to cut our conversation short. Anyway, thanks for being so understanding. See you next week for our last shoot."

Before he could even reply, Nicholas already beat Emily to winding up the tinted windows.

When he came up with his arms propped on either side of her, Emily smacked him over the head.

"Are you insane?!"

"I could ask you the same thing." He said, looking at her, thoroughly annoyed after being hit. Not that it hurt much but the fact that she'd done it nonetheless.

"How could you do something like that with Taylor right there?"

"Then why'd you take your panties off?"

All the air left her lungs as she breathlessly gasped, "Excuse me?"

"What did you expect I was going to do after being given free access? Don't pretend like you had no clue about my intentions."

Emily
