Chapter 9 - Partner Work

I tried my best. I always have. But sometimes my best isn't sufficient enough for others and I'm left believing like always that I'm not good enough.

Promise me, I've tried to hide myself from everybody since eighth grade, but things I never expected are yet to happen. I guess I didn't try hard enough, huh?

Oh....

What the heck?

I step outside and face the man I've already seen once, Who sure as hell shouldn't be at my house.

"Why are you here!?" I whisper yell at Kingston and he just looks at me confused and tries to look in the window next to the door but I snap at him.

"You don't want to be here! You need to go! Like right now." I say as I start pushing him towards his motorcycle that is next to my dad car.

"Woah, Darling? What is happening?" He says, his eyebrows furrowing and looking around before staring me with angry, curiosity filled eyes.

"You don't want to know." I breathe out and he tries to get past me but I step in front of him with pleading eyes, "Please, just tell me what you wanted and go back to upstate." I say and his eyes and face are softened.

Until he tried to pick me up and take me out of the way, grabbing my ribs which surges a wave of pain through my body as I bite my lip and close my eyes.

He immediately notices and with sad, pity filled eyes he leans down and looks me in the eyes. His beautiful eyes.

But quickly his hand reaches the hem of my sweater and tries to pull he side up, exposing a little bit of my ribs before I slap his hand.

"You sneaky bastard." I mumble, looking at him with pleading eyes while he looks like he's debating with his thoughts. He used his beautiful fricking eyes as a distraction.

"You can't do that!" I say, looking around and pulling my sweater down. His eyebrows are furrowed and his jaw is clenched.

"Summer Let me in." He says and I shake my head.

"Please just... go." I ask looking at the ground and he stands up straight, looking down at me and putting his hands gently on my waist.

"Everybody has a reason to have emotions at some point Summer. You never had them, but you do somewhere in there you are just putting them deep inside you. I have an idea what is happening in there but you have to tell me." He says but I just look at the ground.

My dad will come back, he's gone now but he'll get better and my mom will come home. So that's why I shake my head, because he's all I have left. The only person who loves me, or at least used to love me. And the only person who ever will.

So I shake my head and look up at him, with pleading eyes. "Leave." I demand and he tightens his lips into a straight line and then pouts them before looking down at me.

"I'm sorry, Summer. I just came here for the partner work, but I will assume that it's done amazingly." He says for the first time giving me a small smile, which looks out of pity, before turning and getting on his motorcycle, not putting on a helmet. And as he leaves, his eyes never leave me.

I rush back into the house where my dad waits for me on the couch. Making my accelerated heart rate go higher.

"Who was that?" He says, the cold tone in his voice is calm and dry. "Oh, uhm.. missionaries! Ya, missionaries." I say and he abruptly turns his head towards me.

"Hm.. what church, Summer?" He asks and I search every brain cell I have to think of a church near here. "Uhm.. it was the Church of Jesus Christ or something?" I say but it sounds more like a question.

Funny enough I'm not good at direct lying. He gets up and slowly walks towards me, my body frozen. He gets directly next to me, body towering over mine because of my short genes.

He slowly leans down till his mouth is right next to my ears, "Okay." He says, his voice right next to me before he sidesteps past me up the stairs to his room.

As soon as I hear his steps leave earshot while he walks into his room I breathe out a heavy breath I was holding in out of habit. My pulse slowly descends as I go to the kitchen and stick my head under the faucet of the sink.

The water runs down the sides of my faces as I take each gulp, my head feels like it's spinning from the encounters I just had.

After a moment of just chilling under the faucet, I decide to take a shower and then start fixing up dinner which will take a while.

But before this, as if I haven't had enough drama today, I steal an apple from the stuff I got from the store today. Thinking about the delicious pumpkin bread as I eat it in my bathroom.

I step into the shower quickly after, water dosing my body and drenching my hair. The bandages around my wrist soaking up some of  the water before it starts bouncing off like a water proof jacket.

I clean my hair and possibly old blood dried to my arms before turning off the water and getting out of the shower, wrapping an old damp towel around my body.

I dry off every inch of my body before I wrap the towel around my hair and start putting on the clothes I was wearing before. I brush my teeth so I can feel fully clean, though I'm probably not, and brush my hair.

My hair now falls to my shoulders, meaning I'll need to get a haircut soon. I do my own haircuts.

Once I reach the kitchen again I start cooking the dinner my dad requested and hope to god, that Kingston doesn't know what's happening.
