The one who was going to marry someone else.

It was horrible, wasn't it? Wanting to steal your friend's fiancee? But they were both so miserable... You couldn't bear to see them both stuck in that for a lifetime.

At least, that's what you told yourself.

Would he even accept you? Could he?

Your questions quickened your steps as you searched the ballroom. You needed the answers before it was too late. But Jimin wasn't anywhere.

You decided to look in the place you shared the most memories.

The moon barely lit the way to the lake. Your heart pounded, half from running, half from reliving the memory of almost being drowned by Jackson in the same place. But then you remembered the first day you spent time alone with Jimin – how he jumped in the water and saved you when you fell out of the boat. His warm arms around you.

Jimin had a warmth to him that you wanted to be consumed in on a daily basis.

Just as you thought of it, you saw his silhouette leaning against a tree, looking out onto the water. He didn't even notice you. His eyes were focused completely on the water.

You stepped forward and touched his arm. He jumped, but smiled when he recognized your face.

"[Y/N]... why aren't you at your party?"

You inhaled. "I wanted to see you."

His smiled widened. "Really? You must have heard my thoughts. I was just thinking about you."

            "Oh? About what?"

He took a deep breath and looked at the water again. "The day I saved you. And the day I didn't. I wish I had done more for you, [Y/N]. You were in danger this entire time, and I was so caught up in myself and in my own problems that I couldn't even help you."

"You had a lot to worry about."

"It still bothers me. I almost lost you."

You reached out and tugged on his arm. "I'm still here."

            He continued to scowl.

You slid your hand from his arm down to his hand and gripped it. "I hate seeing you in so much pain."

He squeezed your hand. "I keep causing pain for others. It's only fair I take some myself from time to time."

"Is there anything I can do for you?"

He grinned at you. "Wanna get married?"

            Your heart stopped.

"I was kidding, [Y/N]." he said, bursting into laughter. "You don't need to give me that look."

You let go of his hand as your heart dropped, swallowing the dry lump in your throat. "Would you be miserable with me, then?"

His grin flattened. His lips parted as he searched your face for a moment.

"No." he said. "I wouldn't be miserable with you."

You thought about Nara and what Jimin had said in the ballroom.

"When you said you wanted Nara to marry someone else... who did you mean?"

Jimin turned from you and shrugged. "I think the answer is obvious. Jungkook makes her the happiest."

            "Who makes you happy, then?"

You could barely breathe with the way your heart was pounding in your throat.

Say I do. Say I'm the one that makes you happy.

His eyes drifted from your feet to your face. He swallowed. With a breath, his eyes turned back to the lake.

Your heart ached at his silence. With nothing to lose, you stepped in and kissed him on the cheek. His eyes fluttered shut and he swallowed again. Yet still, he was silent. When he didn't say anything, you leaned against the tree behind him. You stared at your feet.

"I wanted it to be you." you whispered. "I wanted you to come save me."

He turned to face you, but you couldn't look at him. With a single step, he closed the distance between you, bringing his arms up to capture you against the tree.

"This marriage... if I had a choice, [Y/N], I would come to you."

You conjured up the courage to look at his face. "Does it have to be Nara then? Is that part of the deal? Or can it be anyone?"

His mouth dropped open. "I can't ask you to do that. That would be a huge sacrifice for you."

"You'll just have to pay me back then."

You smirked playfully, earning a mischievous glance from him. You frowned again. "I know it makes me a terrible person, Jimin, but I can't stand the idea of you with anyone else. I know Nara will probably hate me, and I hate that –"

Jimin's finger came to your lips to shush you. You stopped. His fingers slid down your jaw.

"You're not a terrible person," he said. "But I'm going to be."

He swept down and pressed his lips against yours, giving you a long, deep kiss. The tree bark cut into the back of your head, but you didn't care. Your hands rested on his chest, as his jaw pushed hard against yours. His heart raced under your palm as he went in for a second kiss, just as long as the first. His hands traced down your sides, then around your waist. He brought you in for a third and final kiss, slower and deeper than the first two kisses combined.

He pulled away, laying his forehead on your shoulder. He kissed your collarbone, inhaling your scent. You ran your fingers through his hair.

After a moment, he lifted his eyes to yours. "You'd really marry me? You'd agree to that?"

            You nodded.

"Why?" he asked, tilting his head. "Why would I be that lucky?"

You twirled his hair in your fingers. "Because your happiness means the most to me."

He smiled and looked as his feet. His dark eyes met yours once more.

"In that case," he said, taking your hand in his. "Your happiness is now my full time responsibility."

That night you announced you were taking your place among the royal ranks. Your parents were estatic. Jimin applauded you from a distance, trying not to let on about your relationship before he talked with Nara.

When the time came, he brought both you and Jungkook into the room with him to speak with her. He apologized for treating her poorly and told her to go to Jungkook. She was relieved. Jungkook was shocked at first, but he couldn't hold back his happiness either. The bad blood between the three of them melted after time.
