Narrator-

Everyone stared on speechless.

Just when things couldn't get worse...

"What in the world?" breathed Adina.

"Yo what is that?" asked Matthew.

"They look like..." Khiran started.

"Don't say it..." warned Khairo.

"A freaky version of steroid induced zombies." Finished Khiran.

"And he said it." Said Khairo, as he rolled his eyes.

"Uh guys..." Muttered Jackson.

"This isn't happening. Tell me this isn't happening!" Said Lauren as she began to freak out, her chest heaving with every quick yet heavy breath she took.

"What are you blind? We're all seeing this, so yeah it's happening." Snapped Khairo, as the tension began to rise.

Adina noticed the conflict and felt her blood warm up. The heat travelled up her neck and swallowed her head, like an overheated silicone cap. Adina hated when people became violent. She didn't like loud arguments, and mostly she hated when she was witness to any form of conflict or confrontation.

"Bro chill." Said Khiran.

"Guys." Said Jackson a little louder, yet he was still being ignored.

He didn't want to alarm them, but what he was experiencing right now was beyond his comprehension.

"Who are you talking to?" asked Lauren with a shocked expression, surprised that anyone would dare to raise their voice at her.

"I'm talking to you!" snapped Khairo, feeling over her snobby and pompous attitude.

Khairo had an iffy feeling about Lauren from the very beginning. Starting with the way she stared down at everyone around her, to the way she answered questions when spoken to. Something about Lauren always threw him off his cool.

"GUYS!" yelled Jackson.

"WHAT?!" said Lauren and Khairo simultaneously.

"Look," said Jackson as he nodded towards his right fingers, which were twitching uncontrollably, and he couldn't stop them, no matter how hard he tried.

"What the hell is wrong with you man?" asked Matthew, already feeling cautious, as Jackson's fingers continued their unsynchronized dance.

"I don't know." Replied Jackson as he made a fist in effort to stop his moving fingers.

However, the second he did so, his hand somehow attracted the electricity from the light that sat directly above him. His fingers illuminated with energy as everyone gasped in shock.

"Holy shit!" Whispered yelled Matthew, his eyes round and wide.

Jackson gasped, his body trembling, as he released his hand and the energy fizzled away quietly. His fingers tingled slightly, while the after effect manifested itself in the form of electric currents running through the sinews of his muscles.

Everyone remained flabbergasted.

Jackson blinked a few times, his fingers buzzing subtly.

Out of curiosity, Jackson attempted to make another fist when everyone exclaimed in a chorus "No!"

Jackson shook his head and hand, they were right, it wasn't a good idea to try that again.

The quadrant remained quiet for a while after, until Khiran realized what his brother was doing.

"What's wrong?" asked Khiran, addressing his brother.

"My hand, it feels hot." Replied Khairo, shaking his right hand then made a fist, and released it.

He continued with this routine for at least three more tries, in hopes of relieving the heat that built up in his palm and radiated to the tip of his fingers. His right wrist became sore from the repeated movement, so he made a fist and held it. While holding the fist, Khairo felt a fiery sensation scalding his palm, like a raging fire grilling a salmon. The burning heat engulfed Khairo's veins and bubbled through his muscles, like a building pressure that needed to be relieved.

When Khairo's hand began to shake from the tension, he released it, and with a surge of power, a ball of fire erupted from his palm.

Khairo jumped, shocked and amazed as he examined the fact that his palm was not damaged, and just as the fire came, it was gone, along with the heat he had once felt in his hand.

Khairo breathed and looked around, as everyone's eyes were trained on him.

He chuckled slightly and uncomfortably as he said "sorry."

Khiran shook his head at his twin brother, just as he felt his hand run abnormally cold.

Apprehensive, he began to follow in his brother's footsteps. He opened and closed his hand until his wrist became sore, but then sighed in relief when nothing happened.

He twisted his wrist to relieve some of the built-up pressure, and he made another fist absentmindedly, however, this time, when he released his hand, a shot of ice flew from his palm and splattered the ceiling above him, causing the remaining Subjects to stare on alert, yet astonished.

Khiran felt the cold soothe his palm and wrist, almost like a second nature.

He looked at his twin, the fear evident in his eyes, and Khairo looked back at his brother, he smiled slightly, in hopes of calming their shared anxiety. This was really bad.

"Okay..." said Adina as she breathed very carefully.

This was weird. The heat that enveloped her earlier suddenly changed to worry. The stress began to slowly press on her sternum, while an unavoidable thin coat of sweat lined the skin of her forehead. Her stomach was churning, anticipating the moment her body would shut down. Her brain was on high alert. She knew an attack was coming, it was just a matter of when.

"Uh where's the girl? What's her name, um Lauren." mentioned Matthew quizzically, after yet another moment of silence.

"I'm right here you idiot." Muttered Lauren, causing everyone to jump, startled, with a choir of shocked heaves echoing around the room.

Lauren's chair was empty.

"Uh Lauren?" muttered Adina.

"What?" she snapped in a snarky tone; she didn't like the idea of Adina feeling comfortable enough to address her.

She and that girl were not on the same level, and she was going to make that very clear.

"You're not there." Explained Jackson.

"Oh you think you are just so funny." Said Lauren's voice, her eyes looking around the room.

But she soon began to take notice of the various mixtures of curious yet shocked facial expressions around her. This caused a seed of nerves to take root in her brain, and her breathing slightly accelerated.

"Guys?" questioned Lauren, her voice quavering to a now careful quiet and maybe even frightened tone.

Lauren gulped, yet no one noticed.

"Is she...?" started Khiran.

"Don't say it. Please don't say it." Warned Khairo.

"Is she invisible?" asked Khiran.

"And of course, he says it." Said Khairo as he rolled his eyes and shook his head. He loved his brother.

"That's not funny." Whined Lauren, and just like that she was revealed.

"Jeez!" exclaimed Matthew.

"Okay, seriously dude, what did you guys do to us?" questioned Matthew as he addressed Jackson.

"What? I'm not one of the doctors or scientists, I didn't come up with any of this." Defended Jackson.

"Yeah, but you're part of this organization, so obviously you're in on it." Sated Khiran accusingly.

"Well I posed as part of them, but I had my own plan." Explained Jackson, as he suddenly felt targeted.

"Oh so now you're a traitor?" Replied Matthew, with a scoff.

Matthew rolled his eyes then focusing right back on Jackson, but he started feeling a weird sensation in his body. Similar to the adrenaline he felt when running, but ten times stronger. He didn't like it, he didn't like it one bit, and he was silently praying that he didn't go through some random bullshit, like everyone else around him. This strange feeling was not welcomed.

"Obviously not a good one, or else Jasper would still be alive." Concluded Khiran.

Matthew closed his eyes, feeling the adrenaline build up in his muscles while his breathing accelerated, and a band of sweat, which felt more like a humid blanket clogged the pores of his forehead and face.

There was an energy boiling within his body, and it wanted out.

"So now you're blaming me for his death?" snapped Jackson.

"Hey dude, you okay?" questioned Khairo, taking notice of Matthew's uncomfortable posture.

Matthew's spine was erect, his wrist balled, his face sweaty. He couldn't manage a verbal response, and the voices around him were now muffled. His brain was too focused on the concerning heat which grew within the layers of his physical envelope. Matthew's stomach and chest were burning. He was dizzy, his vision blurry, his gray sweats soaking with perspiration.

"Damn right I am!" fired Khiran, as his memory went on a rampage with images of Jasper's death, his screams resonating clear as a siren in his ears.

"Guys he's shaking!" announced Khairo, and everyone turned to a trembling Matthew.

"What? Matthew are you okay?" questioned Valerie quietly.

Matthew didn't reply, feeling as if he was there yet nowhere all at once. His breathing felt different, the air around him felt different, so different he didn't even feel the harsh metal that tortured his skin and kept him captive.

"Whoa!" exclaimed Adina, as a blur suddenly bolted all over the room.

The figure bounced around the room, turning right at this corner, and left at the other, like a ball in an antique ping-ball game. The remaining Subjects' eyes bounced as they followed the fast-moving shadow, until it suddenly skidded to a complete stop.

It was Matthew, who blinked, just as confused as he other pairs of eyes that stared his down. His earlier salty shower was now dried from his skin. And his breathing was much calmer. Matthew, still needing a moment to wrap his brain around the fact that he just moved at superhuman speed, leaned over his chair, refusing to sit back in the metal prison. And though his legs felt weak, the power that was building in his body earlier was suddenly appeased, and he could now breathe without feeling as though an elephant was sitting on his chest.

Adina found it hard to process everything that was taking place around her.

"Okay." Breathed Adina again, as she began to feel her anxiety kick in.

The heat burned beneath her skin, however though her skin felt dry, she was sure it was drowning in sweat. Her mouth, tongue and throat felt as parched as cement, and her nares began to flare with every breath she took. The harsh sound of a wheeze that resonated in her throat was evidence that she was struggling to breathe. The feeling could be described as one hand holding her neck hostage, and the other clogging her mouth and nose.

She felt herself gagging, her vision fading.

The other members of her quadrant felt helpless, none of them understood what was taking place, and the Twins had no recollection of the CPR class they attended a year ago.

"Shoot!" gasped Adina, her breathing speeding up, her chest heavy, her air intake feeling limited.

"Aw man, she's having another one of her panic attacks." Groaned Khairo, he hated having to witness it every time. It wasn't the prettiest sight.

Adina tried to control her breathing. She closed her eyes and tried to focus her energy into slowing her racing heart. She took in a quick breath and released it in a sharp manner. Her chest heaved, but that released breath brought her only slight comfort. So, Adina did it again. She took a quick breath and released. Quick breath and release. With every release, she felt a weight being removed from her chest. Her lungs began to expand, as her fellow Subjects stared at her quizzically, yet carefully. Then Adina closed her eyes and took one last breath, and she held it. She felt the air moving in her lungs, she waited, and waited some more, then she released it and it was as though a surge of energy traveled from her, and knocked Matthew over, who was facing her.

"Damn!" exclaimed Matthew, his eyes wide as he sat up, holding his head.

Adina opened her eyes, instantly feeling better.

Her chest was free, her nose clear, her vison strong, and her body no longer sweaty. She could breathe comfortably, her physique felt cool, her heart calm.

Everyone was stunned, quiet.

No one spoke, no one moved, and they breathed almost as quiet as the dead itself. Their eyes jumped from one Test Subject to the other. Each of them waiting for the next to have an unexplainable freaky moment.

But all hearts jumped, all eyes fixed, and all heads turned in caution to Valerie when she softly spoke and declared "my head hurts."
