you didn't know why you went back to school on monday hoping to see kuroo. you weirdly hoped that the training camp was all a joke, or that he was messing with you, but you knew that was ridiculous. it was just wishful thinking; fantasies.

over the weekend, kuroo had texted you at night time, but he was busy during the day and said he didn't have much time to facetime. you weren't upset about it or anything; you knew how committed he was to volleyball and that the training camps took a lot of time and energy. you didn't want to take up his time to sleep and rest either, so you just let it be. texting was enough. you just missed his voice a little bit.

you had a busy schedule on mondays, so you didn't even get to see ayako very much. you were excited to go to dance practice so that the two of you could catch up. you were planning to thoroughly interrogate her about her time with tanaka, and also tell her about the latest developments with kuroo and your parents coming home.

you stepped into the studio where you and ayako always practiced. the competition was on friday, so you were going to practice a lot this week to make sure your dance was at its best. she was already there, scrolling through her phone.

"ayako!" you called her name, closing the door behind you are running towards her.

the two of you wrapped each other in a tight hug.

"hey, girl." ayako smiled at you. "how are you?"

"good, you?"

"i'm fucking amazing. i just want the competition to come already."

you nodded, eyes wide. "same," you said.

"also, tanaka's gonna be there." at the mention of him, she swooned a little bit.

"he is? why?" you put your bag down and began to stretch the muscles in your arms.

"you didn't know? there's a whole bunch of volleyball games at the same place as our dance competition."

you raised your eyebrows. "does that mean-"

"yes, your boyfriend will be there." ayako laughed teasingly, nudging your arm. you giggled, and she bent down to touch her toes, hanging there for a moment.

"how was your day with tanaka on saturday?" you asked, lunging to the side.

"oh my god, it was so good. he has such good fashion sense. and you know that's one of the main qualities i look for in a man."

you laughed, standing up straight.

"and he's so funny," ayako said. "he's just fun to be around." she thought for a moment. "he mentioned this girl named... kiyoko i think? something like that."

"oh yeah!" you nodded; the name rang a bell. "he mentioned her at bokuto's party. him and noya were like 'we have to stay loyal to kiyoko,' but i guess that didn't last long."

"oh... that makes sense." ayako smiled brightly. "because he told me that he liked me more than her because i actually respond to what he says. he said she ignores him and noya."

you laughed, and then pouted. "i miss noya."

"me too, but we'll see him on saturday."

with that, the two of you decided to start dancing. you finished warming up your bodies and decided to run through your choreography all the way through to see how it looked and felt. you two danced so well together; the chemistry was perfect.

when you'd finished your dance, you breathing was a little heavy, but you felt lighter.

"ayako," you said, walking over to your bag to get your water bottle. "my parents came home."

"they did? when?"

"on friday. i came home from kuroo's house and they were just there. they didn't even tell me they were coming. they said they forgot."

"oh," ayako said, patting you on the back. "i'm sorry, girl."

"it's okay. they love me, i know it. i just wish they showed it a little more."

"i know." ayako looked at you apologetically. "have you told them about kuroo?"

you shook your head. "i don't know why, but i just didn't want to. it's not like they would have a problem with it, they just wouldn't... care." you sighed, taking another sip of your water.

ayako took a deep breath. "well... try and see if they want to come to the competition. that might be a good way to try to involve them in your life."

"they'll probably be busy," you said, pursing your lips. "but i'll ask."

"tell me how it goes," ayako said with a comforting smile, and you nodded.

"i will." you put down your water bottle and looked at yourself in the mirror. "oh my god. now that i think about it..." your eyebrows drew together.

"what?" ayako asked, unlocking her phone that was plugged into the speaker.

"kuroo's never talked about his parents. and whenever we go to his house, no one else in home." you bit the inside of his cheek. "i wonder what's going on. i feel bad for not asking about it."

"you don't have to feel bad. your relationship happened really quickly, and you went from barely knowing each other to being really close. it just hasn't come up yet, that's all."

you nodded. "i guess. i'll ask him about it when he comes back from training camp."

"mom? dad?" you had stepped down the stairs. it was seven o'clock in the evening. both your parents sat at the dining room table doing work. papers were spread out across the table, making it unusable for its original purpose: dining.

"yes?" your mother looked over to you, but your father did not. "make it quick, honey. we have work."

"uh... well, i have a dance competition on next saturday, so i was wondering if you would like to come." you spoke hesitantly and quietly.

your mother sighed, rubbing her forehead. "honey, i don't know if we'll be able to make it. where is it?"

"fukurodani," you answered.

"i didn't know you still danced!" your father said, trying to sound excited. "do you still draw too?"

"yeah..." you bit your bottom lip.

"i'll try to move things around on my schedule, but i can't make any promises." your mother did look genuinely apologetic. "i'm sorry."

"it's fine," you said with a sigh, and went back up to your room. you were a little disappointed, but it was what you'd expected. it hurt a bit nevertheless.

you sat down at your desk, returning your focus to the physics homework you'd been doing before you remembered ayako's idea to ask your parents about the competition. you applied yourself, working hard so you could get it done and watch a movie on your computer or something.

about ten minutes into the work, your phone started ringing.

you put down your pencil and looked over at it. your heart practically left out our your chest.

facetime from kuroo

you quickly looked at yourself in the mirror, fixing your hair and trying to convince yourself that you looked hot as fuck.

you answered his call, watching as his face came into view. it was loud around him, and he'd stood his phone up on something in front of him. he was eating; you could see dishes in front of him, so you assumed he was in some type of cafeteria.

kuroo was wearing his nekoma jacket, and his face was turned away from you, facing the person next to him.

"can you shut the fuck up?" he was saying. "i'm calling her right now, damn!" he turned his face to the screen and saw you, and his face immediately lit up. "y/n!" he said excitedly, leaning towards the screen.

"kuroo!" you said back, matching his tone.

"let me see her, idiot!" suddenly kuroo was pushed to the side as a hand picked up his phone from whatever it was leaning on. you stared at your screen in confusion.

"hey, hey, hey!" bokuto said as his grinning face came into view. he shoved something into his mouth with chopsticks.

"give it back, dumbass!" you heard kuroo yell from next to him.

"no! we're having a conversation." bokuto turned back to you. "anyways, kuroo fucking sucks, bruh. today, he tried to block my spike, but i just blew that shit right past him. like, the amount of points i got today was kind of insane."

"oh, for real?" you said, small giggles leaving your mouth. "i honestly have been thinking that kuroo sucks for a really long time, i just didn't want to say anything because i thought it might hurt his feelings."

"that's what i'm saying!" bokuto turned his head to the side, but not kuroo's side. "see akaashi? she understands." he looked at you again. "y/n, this is akaashi!" he turned the camera so that you could see the boy. he was so pretty that it caught you by surprise. you recognized him; you'd probably seen him at bokuto's party, and you'd definitely seen him at practice games.

are all of kuroo's friends this hot?Β

"she's kuroo's girlfriend," bokuto told akaashi.

"hi," akaashi said, waving at you. "sorry about bokuto, he gets excited."

"it's okay," you said, laughing a little. "i guess he's tolerable."

"hey!" bokuto interjected, turning the camera back on himself. "don't be rude." he took another bite of food, and you heard kuroo just sigh from next to him. "anyways, we wanted to call you because kuroo said he hasn't called you this whole time! i was like, 'she probably misses you, bro.' sorry we're eating, though. this is kind of the only time we have to call you."

you laughed, having a hard time keeping up with what bokuto was saying.

"can i talk to her now, you piece of shit?" kuroo asked, trying to push himself into the frame.

"get off me, i wasn't done!" he smacked kuroo upside the head, making you burst out into laughter. your bad mood because of your parents was completely gone now. "back to what i was saying earlier," bokuto began again, putting more food in his mouth. "kuroo was actually kind of sad today. he was like, 'why do i fucking suck so bad?' but i wanted to comfort him, you know? so i told him that he didn't actually suck that bad, it's just that i'm so much better than him so it wasn't fair in the first place, you know what i mean?" bokuto's eyebrows drew together. "i think that made him feel better, i don't really know."

you laughed. "you're such a good friend, bokuto." you nodded dramatically, giving him a teary-eyed look.

"i know," he said, matching your tone, and sniffling.

"okay, enough," you heard kuroo say, and with the sound of a slap, bokuto dropped the phone on the table. your only view was the ceiling, but you heard muffled arguing and people getting hit every once in a while.

finally, someone picked up the phone, and you were met with kuroo's sheepish face.

"sorry," he said with a chuckle. "i just had to put him in his place or whatever."

that sentence made you break out into laughter, and you got off your desk chair and sat on your bed, leaning back against the headboard.

"so..." you began. "how has training camp been so far?"

"it's good. although i kinda wish bokuto wasn't here." he started speaking aggressively as he looked over at his gray haired friend.

"you know you love me," bokuto said from outside the frame.

"whatever." kuroo rolled his eyes. "but how are you doing, y/n? how's your dance coming along?"

you smiled a bit. "it's good. we're making a few minor changes, but from now on, we're just gonna be practicing it over and over again." your eyes lit up at a memory. "by the way, kuroo, you're gonna be at the competition, right?"

kuroo chuckled. "i was planning on surprising you about that, but yeah, i guess you were bound to find out. i have games on saturday and sunday."

"oh okay," you smiled. "is kenma with you?"

"yeah," kuroo said, and handed the phone to the person across from him.

"hi, y/n." kenma held the phone in front of his face, looking bored. "get me the fuck out of here."

"on my way. pack your bags," you joked, and kenma smiled.

"i can barely even sleep because they're so damn loud."

"i'm so sorry, kenma," you said with a small giggle. kuroo and bokuto together were definitely a loud pair.

"by the way, they talk about you for so long. you're cool and everything, but is there really that much to talk about?"

"okayyyy," the phone was quickly taken out of kenma's hands by kuroo, and he looked at the camera with a red face.

you laughed at his awkward smile, and sunk down into your pillow.

"what are you doing right now?" kuroo asked you, leaning his head on the palm of his hand.

"i was doing my homework, but then you called me."

he nodded. "what class?"

"physics."

"oh! do you need help?" he asked.

"kuroo's good at science!" bokuto butted in suddenly.

"i know," you said loudly so that bokuto could hear you through the phone. "but no, i think i'm fine. it's not too hard."

"okay, just let me know if you need anything. did you eat already?" kuroo asked.

"yeah, i had dinner with ayako after dance."

"oh, that's good. was it fun?"

"yeah. we got ramen."

"give me the phone," you heard bokuto say, and all of a sudden the phone was in his hands.

"y/n, it's very important to eat all three meals," he lectured. "you're a growing girl, and it's important that you nourish your mind and body so that you can be-"

"she didn't pick up this call for a lecture," akaashi said, and bokuto's expression deflated. akaashi came into the frame with a soft smile. "but he's right though."

you giggled. "i know, i know."

"y/n, i think we have to go now," kuroo said, taking the phone out of his friend's hand. "dinner is ending and we have to put our stuff away."

"okay," you said, watching as kuroo looked down at you on his screen with fond eyes. "have a good night, baby, okay?"

"of course," he smiled at you. "i'll text you before bed. say bye, guys!" kuroo tilted the camera towards bokuto and akaashi, and then kenma, and all three boys waved at you happily. kuroo turned to camera beck towards himself and smiled at you. "bye, baby."

"bye," you said, your stomach fluttering. you loved it when he called you baby.

with that, kuroo hung up, and you laid against your headboard, feeling overwhelmed with happiness. it was crazy how those boys could lift your mood so quickly and effortlessly. you got up from bed and made your way over to your chair. you resumed doing your homework, this time feeling much better about it than before.
