The bonfire crackles quietly on the sand as everyone huddles around. Couples cuddle, kissing and giggling softly. You scoff, taking a pull from the bottle in your hand. "Fuck love."

You say this, but you're secretly envious. You want someone to wake up next to. You want someone to cuddle with and eat dinner with and to kill the spiders that always seem to cross your path. You want to hear someone say "I love you". It's been so long since you've heard those three words from someone that isn't family or just a friend.

A chilly wind blows, bringing in an icy sea breeze that makes you shiver. "Hey, it's getting cold. Let's keep drinking inside, yeah?" one of the guys around the fire speaks up, drawing his coat around his girlfriend's shoulders.

As everyone that's around the fire gets up and begins to head inside, you stay put, staring into the flames. "Y/N, are you coming?" An acquaintance that you vaguely recall introducing herself earlier as the girlfriend of one of the boys in the group pauses when she realizes you haven't moved.

"Nah." You give her a smile and a dismissive wave of the hand that comes off as perfectly nonchalant. "I like being by the fire. I'll head in when I run out of beer."

"Okay," she replies. "I'll fix you a plate of leftover barbecue. It'll be in the microwave if you get hungry later."

You feel your chest flood with warmth. "Thank you."

The girl grins, shooting you a wink as she turns to head towards the beach house. "I got you."
She's been so nice since the moment you met her. You have to invite her out for drinks when you get back home.

You sit back and gaze up at the sky, filled with countless stars. You feel so small. You think about everyone back at the beach house and how they're all coupled up. A tear slips down your cheek; you quickly swipe it away. "Fuck," you mutter, shaking your head. You're beginning to regret coming. The only reason you came this weekend was because you had hoped to see Jin. He responded to the invite on Facebook, so you did the same. You had always had a little thing for him. You knew he had a girlfriend, but the knowledge of her hot, gorgeous self didn't do anything to dispel your feelings for Jin at all.

"Hey." A sharp coldness hits your cheek, making you flinch. "You alright?" Your old best friend Jin smiles as he takes a seat beside you. "Why are you out here by yourself?"

"I just...didn't feel like being around...all that," you reply, gesturing toward the beach house. "Too many couples acting all cute and perfect. Makes me sick." You smile wryly, taking a drink.

"Ah," Jin hums, nodding. "Yeah. I understand. I'm kinda feeling the same way."

"What happened to that...model you were dating?" Your heart skips a beat as soon as the question leaves your mouth. Sure, you and Jin are old friends, but it's been so long since you've seen him. Do you even have a right to ask? Do you think he knows that you creep on his Instagram every once in a while?! "Why didn't she come? I've always wanted to bask in the glow of the famous and beautiful." You nudge him in the ribs, giving him a cheeky smirk.

"Ah." Jin ducks his head, rubbing his neck. "We broke up. She was in Italy for some modeling gig. She called me up one night and said that she had met some Italian millionaire and she was leaving me." He shrugs, giving a laugh as if it's not a big deal at all.

"I'm so sorry, Jinnie." You look over at him as he cracks open his beer. "She sounds like she sucks."

"Nah, don't worry," he says. "Everything happens for a reason. I firmly believe that, with all my heart. Y'know, it's like they say, 'sometimes things fall apart so something better can come together', or something like that." He sounds so sure and confident. But then again, he always has been. That's one of the things that you love about him. "And you? Any boyfriends?"

Your face floods with heat despite the chill in the air. "Psh," you scoff. "Nothing but free trials." You take a pull from your bottle, hoping the alcohol will help you relax.

"That's good though." Jin smiles as he gazes into the bonfire. After a moment he seems to snap at what he just said because he quickly backtracks. "I–I mean! It's good that you haven't settled for just anyone! Wait for someone that makes you happy. You deserve it."

"You do too, Jin," you murmur. "You're a good person, I hope you know that." A memory comes to you then, bringing a smile to your face. "Remember homecoming night our senior year of high school? You were voted homecoming king, and when my date stood me up, you stayed by my side all night."

"Of course I did," Jin says. "You were the most beautiful girl there that night." He pauses, glancing at you as he takes a sip from his beer. "I had to work up a lot of courage to ask you if you wanted to dance that night. ...Almost as much as I had to muster up to come out here." This last part is lost over the sound of the waves. He takes another, longer sip. "You know, I'm really happy you're here."

There's something in his voice that makes your heart squeeze in your chest. "I'm happy you came too. I was hoping I would see you here." Your body feels extra warm, and you're not sure if it's because of the fire or something else. You scoot closer to him.

"I actually..." Jin trails off, taking a pull from his beer. After a long chug, he shakes his head. "I actually really wanted to see you again. Because... I always had a crush on you when we were younger. You were always so shy, I never knew how to approach you." His face flushes and he ducks his head.

"On me?" Your heart beats double-time. "You had so many girlfriends, though!" You give a shaky laugh. "I was always too shy to go on dates. I still am."

"Really?" Jin's eyes widen. "But you're gorgeous!"

"No way," you laugh, covering your flushed face. "I can't compare to that literal fucking model you were dating, Seokjinnie."

"That's not true." Jin smiles patiently at you. "You have no idea how beautiful you look right now." He reaches over to tuck a strand of hair behind your ear.

You feel an electric current zap through you at his touch. "Ah!" You flinch, laughing. "You shocked me!"

Jin grins. "Sorry." His voice drops to a low whisper. "Will this make it better?" He leans in, and your breath catches.

"Jin..." You close your eyes as his lips find yours. Jin's kiss is soft and gentle. You cup his cheek with one hand, tugging on his lower lip with your teeth.

He shudders, chuckling a little. After a lingering moment, he pulls away, catching his breath. "You're dangerous..."

You can feel heat radiating off your cheeks. You can't keep the smile off your face as Jin pulls you into his chest. "I've always liked you, too." Your voice is small.

Jin lets out a sigh of contentment. "I'd like to see how this goes, if you're interested. We can try to make it work."

"Yes," you murmur, leaning up to peck his lips. "I'd like that very much."

"Okay." Jin takes your hand, drawing you up beside him as he stands. "Let's head inside."

When you and Jin enter the beach house holding hands, the girl from before squeals with delight. She beams, her face alight with happiness. "Oh! Your food!" The girl turns on her heel and hurries over to the microwave, quickly heating up the plate inside. Once it's done, she brings it over to you, along with a can of cold Coke.

"Ah, thank you." You smile up at her. "Would you wanna...maybe get dinner some time?"

"Of course!" she grins, pulling you into a side-hug that is surprisingly warm. "Oh, what's your Insta? I neeeeed your gorgeous face to bless my feed."

You give it to her, a happy flush blooming across your cheeks. Jin sits across from you as you eat, stealing a sausage from your plate. "Do you still regret coming?" he asks.

"How did you...?"

"It was all over your face," Jin laughs. "You're not very good at hiding how you're feeling. At all, actually. I can read you like a book."

"Oh, yeah?" You get up from your seat, slowly straddling Jin's lap. "How am I feeling now?" You wrap your arms around him, burying your face in his neck, and sucking at the skin.

"Whoa! What's going on here?" A loud voice startles you, causing you to jump. When you come back down, Jin groans, chuckling. Everyone else has wandered into the dining room. They're all laughing at having caught you and Jin in such an intimate position. "Take that to the bedroom, guys, jeez!"

"Don't disturb us." Jin winks as he picks you up and carries you to his room. He shuts the door on the raucous cheers that have erupted from the group.

Jin sets you down, rubbing the back of his neck bashfully. "That was a joke, of course. We don't have to—"

"Jin." You cut him off, gripping his shirt in one fist and tugging him toward you. "Get over here."
