Sunni

I shot Aphrodite a quick text, letting her know I was outside. I grabbed the items I brought from the store out the backseat, some chocolate for Aphrodite and wine for everybody. This wasn't a date but I know she was anxious and hopefully it would make her feel a little better.

I made my way into their apartment complex so I could access their place. Their apartment was on the first floor so after I left the parking deck it wasn't far to walk.

I took a deep breathe as I came up to the door, knocking lightly. After a few moments I heard the locks turn and it opened to reveal Aphrodite. Music could be heard faintly from the background and I got a look into the dimly lit living room.

I looked her over, taking in her appearance. She wore a long sleeve baby pink shirt, that hugged her waist just right. Though her cleavage wasn't spilling, it was enough to distract me for a slight second. The grey sweatpants she wore spilled over the back of her ugg slides. Her hair was done in a slicked back braid that touched mid-thigh area.

She looked absolutely beautiful to me.

Said girl smiled, bringing me into a hug, "Hi my Sunni baby."

"Hey my pretty lady," I replied with the same innocent voice.

We released from the embrace and she let me inside, closing the door behind us. When she turned to me, I handed over the chocolate and the wine bottle. "These are for you, this is for everyone else."

A small grin graced her features. "Thank you so much, I love chocolate," she gushed.

I couldn't help but smile, glad I brought it.

"Of course... is anyone else here yet?" I asked.

"No, but Tulia and Syrus are in the kitchen. Come let me introduce you sweetie," and she handed me the wine bottle, grabbing my other hand gently.

I was led into their kitchen, surprised at the amount of decorating. There was a small popcorn machine on the counter, next to all of the snacks. She had candy displayed in clear trays, and even had actual movie popcorn buckets.

"You really went all out didn't you?" I smirked at her. Said girl only smiled shyly, directing her gaze elsewhere.

"She definitely did, I told her we didn't need all this stuff." Tulia spoke up, walking over to give me a hug. I looked up at her, noticing Aphrodite's brother walking to follow her.

"Wassup Tulia." I said, giving her a tight side hug. We pulled away and Aphrodite brought Syrus closer to us.

"Syrus, this is Sunni. Sunni, this is Syrus." She introduced us.

I went to shake his hand, but I was surprisingly brought into a hug. "We do hugs over here," he faintly chuckled.

Syrus had to be taller than his sister, because he was just a few inches shorter than me. His simple tracksuit definitely contrasted with his busy look. His short waves were dyed hot pink and his makeup was flawless, which fit him well.

The last picture I saw of Syrus, his hair was blonde with black hearts dyed into it, so I assumed he dyed his hair often.

From his lips, to his face structure, I could see the kin between him and Aphrodite. I didn't realize how much they took after each other until now.

"So I see, it's nice to meet you, I've heard lots of good things." I said truly, giving a warm smile.

Syrus glanced at Aphrodite then back to me with a smirk, "I've heard plenty about you as well! Got my sister 'round here giddy as hell."

Deity gasped and hit their shoulder, "Shut uppp, you don't know what you talkin' about."

I laughed and turned to look at Deity. She was pouting with her arms crossed, but I could tell she was playing with her brother.

Tulia chuckled from the fridge, "It's no need to be embarrassed bestie. Anyone within six feet of you and Sunni can tell."

They were teasing baby girl, but I couldn't help but smile. It was reassuring to know I had the same affect on her as she had on me.

Deity rolled her eyes, pulling me closer to her by the hand. I comfortingly closed the space between us, meeting eyes with her, "Stop pouting baby girl."

"I'm not pouting," she said in frustration, pouting some more. I just shook my head with a grin, she was such a baby when she wanted to be.

A knock sounded at the door before we could get any conversation started.

Tulia and Aphrodite looked at one another expectantly. "Is that Bas?", the latter asked.

"I think so, come with me." Tulia replied. The warmth next to my body was taken away as Aphrodite was pulled away to the door.

Syrus and I were left alone in the kitchen. I sat the wine bottle over where the other alcoholic beverages were and leaned against the counter. Syrus took a seat on top of the counter, across the kitchen from me.

"So, you and my sister met a while ago, at the club?" He asked me, taking a sip of his water.

I replied, "Yeah, it's been about a month since then."

Syrus nodded, looking to be in thought.

"She likes you, a lot from what I can tell."

"I like her, a lot." I said, giving direct but true answers.

I knew he was trying to learn more about me since I'm involved with his sister, but I didn't mind it.

"What do you do for a living Ms. Sunni?" He asked me playfully, elbows resting on his knees.

"I work at a construction office, mostly pushing contracts and consulting." I answered honestly. I had no reason to lie, I respected his straightforwardness.

At my answer he nodded approvingly, "So you make big bucks I assume?"

I laughed at his inquiry, shaking my head. Syrus had a way of communicating like he was flirting, but it was confusing because you didn't know if he was joking. Though in my case, I know he's just being funny.

"You could say so, I'm not broke if that's what you're asking." I assured with the same tone. Syrus only shooed me with a laugh, scooting from off the counter. "Deity told me you still in college?" I questioned him, hoping to start small conversation.

"Yes I am, a stem major at that, it's been hell and heaven at the same time." He added at the end, making both of us laugh.

"I know it has been, that shit ain't no joke. I'm sure you got it though, Deity tells me you're somewhat of a nerd." I said jokingly.

Syrus rolled his eyes, and right on cue Deity and Tulia came strolling back into the kitchen. Three people followed behind them, Bas being the one I recognized. I hadn't seen her again since that night at the club, but Deity tells me her and Tulia have made friendly. It was obvious from how Bas was holding onto her waist, and the giggles emitting from Tulia.

The two other girls, who I think were Megan and Alana, stood closely together as well.

Syrus looked straight at Deity with squinted eyes, "Sunni here has informed me about my supposed 'nerdiness', this the type of stuff you been telling her?"

Deity only rolled her eyes and shrugged, "Syrus everyone knows you're a nerd, this isn't new." She moved over to take hold of me and Syrus' hands. "Anywaysss, time to meet new people!"

I heard Syrus call her a whore under his breathe, making me snicker audibly.

Aphrodite introduced us to Alana and Megan first. They were in a relationship, which didn't surprise me because they were all over each other. Alana gave Syrus and I both side hugs while Megan embraced us fully. The greetings were brief though, which I didn't mind.

Deity introduced Bas and Syrus while I went in for a hug since I was already acquainted. While they made small conversation I noticed Megan and Alana copping glances at Aphrodite. I raised my eyebrows in curiosity but decided not to jump to conclusions.

I brought my attention back to the conversation with Bas and Syrus, adding in my comments here and there. Deity and Tulia dragged off into their own discussion, putting some distance between the two of us.

Everyone was just getting their words out before we actually started the movie, all congregated in the kitchen.

"It's no way you got all of these tattoos and not one of them hurt..." Syrus trailed off suspiciously, squinting at Bas.

Bas only nodded and laughed, "I mean my pain tolerance is pretty high, but the one on my leg hurt a lil' bit," she admitted.

I watched the two's interaction, kind of bored and zoning out. I was adding more to the conversation but the social battery was dying already. Not that they weren't entertaining, I just wanted to be in Aphrodite's proximity again.

It wasn't like she was far from me, maybe six feet away by the island talking to Tulia. I looked over at her, and I guess she felt my eyes because she met them and smiled. I felt my mind become suddenly interested in my surroundings and returned the gesture.

Our eye contact was broken though, as her attention went to Megan. Said girl had came over and grabbed her waist, saying something I couldn't make out. I watched as Aphrodite hesitantly removed her hands, holding them gently in front of her while replying. She masked the look of discomfort well but I still caught it.

I felt myself become upset at the interaction, face contorting into a frown. Why was she touching her like that? And why was Alana just watching?

I went over to their little circle, moving to hug Aphrodite from behind. She glanced up at me before wrapping her arms over mine, assuring they stayed in place. I grinned at that and let them continue talking, not in the mood to interrupt. Alana and Megan continued as well, acting as if nothing just happened.

Eventually it was time to start the movie and Aphrodite cut all discussions short.

"Ok y'all, we finna start the movie in a minute. Grab whatever stuff you want on the counter, and I'll start the popcorn machine real quick!"

There was a collective reaction of approval and bodies started moving around the kitchen. I just stayed behind Deity because I was doing whatever she was doing.

Megan grabbed Alana's hand and looked at Deity, "Pop enough for us baby girl, we finna go sit in the living room." And they did just, not giving Deity a chance to reply.

I felt my body get hot at the use of the nickname. I had no idea what they were trying at, but I didn't like it.

Aphrodite turned around in my arms. "What's up with Megan and Alana?" I asked her straight up, low enough so that only she could hear me. The mug written on my face probably told her all she needed to know.

Deity sighed, "I promise it's nothing bad, but it's kind of complicated. I'll explain their deal later... Be nice though, for me?"

I stared at her for a minute, "Why should I?"

Aphrodite pouted, glossy lips distracting me. "Because I'm your pretty lady and I don't wanna see you upset."

I tried fighting the grin that wanted to surface, but I was only halfway successful. "Oh you got me there don't you?" I teased.

Aphrodite nodded playfully, matching my energy, before I saw her expression change into a softer one. "I can't promise they'll back off, but I can promise I'll explain later tonight Sunni baby."

I wasn't happy with the first part of that answer, but I could deal with it for her sake.

"I'll be cool for now, only 'cause you asked me..." I emphasized the last part, watching as an innocent smile danced on her face.
