Fuck.

The headache came down like a ton of bricks. I sat up and took in my surroundings. I was in my living room on the couch. I don't even remember coming home last night.

"Here." I heard Samai's voice from behind me. I spun around too quick which made me dizzy and the pounding became worse. "Careful."

She handed me what looked like 2 advil liquid gels and a glass of water. I happily took them and downed the glass. I felt disgustingly sticky and I was in desperate need of a shower.

"Thank you, I'll be right back." I kissed her forehead before I made my way upstairs and got in the shower.

My mind wasn't right. I knew this would happen, it happened every year. Samai shouldn't have to see me like that, I hope I didn't make a fool out of myself.

After my shower I was feeling a bit better physically, mentally I was still fucked up. Allison was truly a loss I would never get over and I don't think anyone in the family ever will.

After dressing myself I went downstairs to see Samai talking to someone.

"Thank you, have a good day." She closed the door and walked over to me with a bag in hand.

"Who was that?"

"Delivery guy, I ordered IHOP. Figured you would be hungry."

"Have I ever told you how perfect you are?" I enveloped her in a warm hug. "Thank you mi amore."

"You're welcome. Now come let's eat." She pulled me over to the kitchen island and took out the food.

As I'm starting to eat Samai kept looking at me as if she was trying to figure me out.

"Are you okay?"

"I should be asking you that. Why'd you get so drunk yesterday?"

I knew that was coming.

"I hate to ask this but happened last night?"

"You came in shitfaced, you were stumbling all over the place. You kept saying you needed to protect me and you said you wanted to see Allison. You kept mentioning her actually." She had stopped eating at this point.

She frowned when she saw how tense I got when she mentioned my other half's name.

"I'm sorry I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable."

"You didn't." I knew I had to tell her eventually and given how I acted last night, I owed her an explanation.

"You don't have to s-"

"Allison was my twin sister." I started before she convinced me to not say anything. "She was my best friend, and we did everything together. We trained together, we fought together, and she was my mission partner."

Samai sat silently and gave me all her attention.

"Like all siblings, we often fought and got into arguments but they weren't anything too serious. As we grew older we started doing our own thing but we were still close, she was my twin after all. A little over four years ago I noticed she lying and being sneaky. I didn't think anything of it. We were 26 at the time so she was a grown woman and could make her own decisions but I let her know that if she needed anything or was in any trouble she could come to me. A few months had passed and I noticed she was doing this excessively, so I got involved. I wanted to make sure she wasn't in any trouble, so I followed her one night. It ended up being that she was romantically involved with someone who she shouldn't have been with." I recall how pissed I was when I found out she was fraternizing with the enemy.

"At that time my siblings and I were all staying at the estate. My parents wanted us under one roof given the dangers that came with being a mafia family. I waited for Allison in her room that night. She didn't come home for hours but when she finally did we had a heated argument about what I found out. She kept saying they loved each other and he wouldn't hurt her, but that was far from the truth." I paused. The memories of that happened were now vivid, I had pushed them back for so long. I never thought I would have to relive it.

"She begged me not to say anything and told me to give her time. I told her to end things with him or I would let our father know. She said she needed time to leave him and as time went on it didn't seem like she was planning on ending things. The more time went on, our relationship wasn't the same. We would avoid each other around the estate and when we did talk, it would always turn into a heated argument. One night she was sneaking off to see him and something in me told me to follow her. The bastard she was seeing ended up confessing to her he was just using her for information, he had her at one of his warehouses tied in a chair. I called for backup but I was too late."

"He burned the warehouse down with her in it, then took off with his men. I tried everything I could to save her. I was in the burning warehouse trying to get to her but with all the panels and debris that was falling, I didn't get to her in time. Ale was the one who dragged me out of there. They recovered her body a few hours later. This all happened four years ago yesterday."

"Oh Lorenzo," Samai jumped off the stool and wrapped her arms around me. Normally I would've hated if anyone else did this but with her I welcomed the affection.

We hugged for what felt like hours until I pulled away. I lifted her chin and saw her eyes filled with tears.

"I'm okay mi amore, no need to cry." I hugged her once again.

"I'm so sorry you had to go through that Lorenzo. I wish you didn't have to go through yesterday by yourself."

"It's okay, you didn't know." Her hands were still wrapped around my torso. She buried her head in my chest, I loved having her this close. "I'm sorry if I freaked you out yesterday. One thing is true, I do promise to protect you. I won't repeat the same mistakes I did in the past."

"That wasn't your fault, so don't say that. You did warn her, it's not like you blatantly ignored what she was doing.

"I should've told our father at the time. She would've still been here if I had just said something to our parents. Even then I couldn't even save her from the fire. What brother can't even protect their own sister?"

"I'm not gonna let you sit here and blame yourself, you couldn't have done anything without being killed yourself. You tried your best to save her, you didn't cause that situation to happen. It was just the consequences of her own actions. Please don't beat yourself up, I doubt she would want you to be blaming yourself."

"You sound like my mother." I chuckled. It's been a while since I've spoken to her, I know I'm gonna have a earful when I do talk to her again.

"I'll take that as a compliment."

"It is." I hoisted her up and she automatically wrapped her legs around my torso, she let out a squeal. "I'm sorry for worrying you yesterday."

"It's okay just let me know so I can be there for you next time."

I pulled her in for a sweet kiss, my hand went to the back of her head as I slightly tugged on her hair. She ran her fingers through my hair and I trailed kisses down to her neck.

"Enzo," She let out a soft moan then she pushed me away and jumped down. "I will literally fuck you right now if we don't stop."

Hearing her say that surprised me. I started laughing.

"Stop! It's not funny." She folded her arms.

"You're so cute."

"I just feel that now isn't a good time given what we just talked about. I feel like I'd be taking advantage of your emotional state and then you'll regret it later."

"Mi amore I promise you wouldn't be and having you will never be one of my regrets but we don't have to do anything. We can relax today and just enjoy each other's company or we can go to the backyard and get in the pool?"

"Hell yea, I'll go put on my bathing suit." She kissed my cheek before she dashed up the stairs. I heard a thud, then footsteps running again. "I'm okay!"
