Luna woke up the next day feeling anxious. She had school in an hour and a half and an important midterm third block. Luna was prepared for the exam but her test anxiety would always get pretty bad the hours before then.

She got out of bed groggily and slowly headed to her washroom. She was lucky enough to have her own bathroom because she was an only child.

Luna looked in the mirror of her bathroom and sighed. Her hair was a tangled mess of shoulder length strands and the bags under her eyes were darker than usual.

So, she turned on her music and showered quickly, then cleansed her face and brushed her hair up into a ponytail.

She breathed in a took a look in the mirror again.

"That's better." she told herself, "Now let's go rock this exam!"

Positive self talk helped her feel better. she grabbed her things for school and headed downstairs to eat breakfast.

"Good morning!" Luna's mom greeted her as she entered the kitchen. "I made breakfast for you. There's an apple on the table over there, breakfast will be ready soon."

"Thanks mom." Luna said plopping her bag down beside the door and heading over to the table. She took a bite of her apple. "I'm gonna head to school a bit early to meet Aaliyah to study for our Bio midterm. There's an early bus in 15 minutes."

"OK sweetheart. I'm sure you'll be fine, don't stress too hard." her mom said, sliding two eggs from a pan onto a plate with toast and some peanut butter. She then slid the plate over to Luna and sat next to her. Luna immediately started eating as she didn't want to miss her bus. Her mom hesitated then spoke; "You wanna talk about New Year's? We should probably prepare for it."

Luna stopped eating for a second to look up at her mom "You know that's not something I can focus on right now. Plus, I don't even know if I'll get a soulmate this year." she looked at the time with her phone. 5 minutes until her bus. "Look mom, we can talk about it in a couple weeks. I have to go now." Luna shoves down the rest of her food and got up from the table.

"OK OK, I understand. Please don't stress! Your exam will be fine. We don't have to think about soulmates right now." her mom stayed at the table and watched as Luna picked up her stuff and put on her shoes. "Love you!" she exclaimed.

Luna turned back to her mom before she left "Thanks mom, I love you too." and then she was off on her day.

She lived pretty close to her school so the bus ride wasn't very long. Once she was at school, Luna headed straight for the library where she said she would meet Aaliyah.

Aaliyah was already sitting at a table with her books wide open, her glasses sliding down her freckled nose a bit as she focused on her work. Luna giggled to herself. Of course Aaliyah would already be at school. She's always early and prepared.

Luna tapped on the table to get Aaliyah's attention. "Hey boo! Why are you here so early? I even made sure that I would be early so that I could be here first for once!"

Aaliyah looked up at her and laughed "You know me, always one step ahead. But hey! You made it here nice and early so open up your textbook and get studying." she said, waving her hand for Luna to sit next to her.

Luna sat down at the table with her things and started studying. After around 20 minutes, a voice interrupted their focus. "Heyyyyyy!" it said playfully. Luna didn't even look up to know who it was before saying "Hey Grace!" she then looked to her friend with a soft smile.

"So Luna, how does it feel to be 18?? You finally get to meet your soulmate soon. We've been dreaming about it since we were little. You must be excited!" she cheerfully said. Luna never understood how Grace was so happy and bright so early in the morning.

"I'd rather not think of it to be honest." She chuckled lightly. "It's kind of terrifying to be honest. What if they are from somewhere else? Or younger than me? Too stressful right now." said Luna. It was true. Finding your soulmate isn't an easy thing.

Aaliyah cleared her throat "Hey we can focus on that later. For now, let's talk about my K-pop boys!" The other two girls laughed but let Aaliyah gush about her new favourite boy band: BTS.

Aaliyah was obsessed with them! She knew all their birthdays and names and everything about them. The other two girls weren't as into it but they didn't mind letting Aaliyah have her fun. They talked about BTS until suddenly the first warning bell rang and it was time for class.

Luna set off for her class alone. Social Studies was the only class she didn't have with any friends. Instead of paying attention, Luna found herself thinking about BTS. Something about them and specifically one member was so intriguing. She shrugged it off as Aaliyah rubbing off on her.

Little did she know that her life was going to change drastically because of them.
