After a few days Adrian's life changed tremendously.

He had finally gained the help of a governess. Well. He was on the 3rd governess. As much as he hated to admit it he had no control over the misfits that inhabited his home and his life. They were caring, sweet and spirited children but mischief was ripe in the air around them always and he knew that on some days he wanted to seriously hang them out by their toes.
As of late it was the constant bickering between Tonk and Evangeline as if they were blood siblings. There wasn't a day Tonk did not torture Evangeline. And there wasn't a day she did not scream, retaliate and make him cry.
His mind reeled with ways to discipline them. He has never dealt with unrully children. He has never dealt with children period. His mind wondered with so much his gaze on the ledger before him suddenly went unfocused.
The slight cough stirred him from his thoughts. To his horror he scowled at the vision before him.
To think that today would have been a day they did not get into trouble was an under statement and a wish too far fetched.

With a sigh he leaned back in the chair and began to rub the aching pulse at his temple. Slowly he looked up and his eyes went from one pair to the next.
His jaw clenched and unclenched trying to control the slow rising anger that wanted to come out.
They looked no different now from the first day he saw them. They were drenched from head to toe.

Filthy and guilty as ever.

Worried eyes looked at him as he slowly stood and walked before them. He looked at the mischievous one to his left that at one point he could have sworn she walked out to the garden in a beautiful peach colored frock, her hair curled in long auburn ringlets that Rosie fought with to perfection. Now she stood before him drenched from head to toe. The ringlets in wet strands hung to her face.
He glowered at the puddle they were creating and her cheeks that turned pink were fanned by her absurdly long lashes.
He looked over to the other little culprit to his right that fidgeted under his stare.

"Should I even ask what happened?" He looked at them both.

Neither answered as they looked accusingly at one another.

"Thomas?" Adrian regarded.
Wincing at his full name Tonk looked down at his feet.

Amused, he sighed.

"Evangeline?" he watched her closely as she began twirling the hem to her frock.

Neither answered.

With a straight face, Adrian braced his hands behind his back. He stood silent for a while to see if either of them would come forward and speak.

"Very well then, since neither of you are willing to speak up then you would not mind sharing the weight of your punishment," he paused. Satisfied with their sighs and gasps.

He looked up to the smirk on Pennifords face.

"The both of you will help Penniford and Rosie with all the chores around the manor for the next two weeks, there will be no dessert after supper and you both have gained one hour more on your daily lessons with Madam Phelps,"

Before he could continue doling out their punishment immediately Evangeline began to pout and gasp turning her anger towards Tonk.

"This is all your fault," she stomped.

"It is not," he argued back.

"I was trying to show her a toad and she got angry and slapped it out of my hand, and made me loose him," he complained to Adrian as he pointed accusingly at her.

" You little imp you were trying to put that vile creature on my shoulder," she fumed angrily.

Adrian for as much as he tried he bit back a smile and quickly straightened his face as she glared at him.

Brown eyes glittered with unshed tears as she stomped  in anger.

"He shoved me into the pond," she cried.

"Aye, because she pushed me first," he retorted.

"You're no fun any more Evangeline, ever since we have come here you never play with me. And you put on those silly dresses that make you look odd," he crossed his arms with a pout.

She stood rigid with hurt and anger staring at Tonk she shook her head and dashed away a tear.
"And you're an annoying pest that is a thorn in my side," she cried.

"That is enough both of you to your rooms," he ordered with an exasperated sigh.

Looking up to Penniford, the butler gave him an approving nod for his disciplined ways. Although the guilt ate at him for punishing them it was for their own good.

The upcoming weeks proved difficult for them all. Adrian had contracted his dear friend Frederic an investigator and a very influential person amongst the ton to find out what he could about Tonks family and the whereabout of his father. What ever the information maybe it was imperative that he knew so that he could do things the proper way. He never anticipated that Frederick would return with news this fast or that the outcome was favorable at best.

The Baron wanted to see his son.
