Authors note:

I have not made the sequel yet, except for this chapter I have posted. I have been asked for a sequel, and decided to let you all vote. If at the end of the chapter you would like me to continue on with the book, then please leave a vote. Once this chapter has 100 votes I will begin the sequel. I understand 100 is a high number, but this book has reached up to 550 readers. If one hundred people out of the five hundred and fifty people reading voted, that would only be 18% of the readers. I understand that it is a lot to ask for, but I want to be sure the book will have a good amount of readers for it when it begins. Without further delay, I give you a pilot chapter.

Naomis' POV:

Funerals. That was all I had been to in the last thirty days. I had to watch families grieve for their lost ones, and today would be the hardest day of them all. I had two funerals planned today, but they were both ones I needed to attend. The government found the land we were taken too, and sent out search teams for our marked grave sites. Every funeral we held so far were for the retrieved bodies, and today was a tough one for me. I stood in the back of the service, keeping quiet as I always did and silently hoping they had moved on and found peace. I however, would not be granted any peace because I stood behind a woman who I had a message for. A message her son pleaded for me to give to her as he was killed right before my own eyes.

I waited until almost everyone had gone, and stood beside his grieving mother as she wept for her lost child. His little siblings had to be taken away by family members because she hadn't been in her right mind to watch over them during the service. "Rita Sanchez?" I spoke quietly, not fully trusting my voice. The shaky old woman slowly turned her head to look at me, and her eyes grew wide when she saw me.

"You were with my baby, you were with jr." She cried out, trying to understand what I was doing here. "You knew my baby, you saw him. You!" She spoke, and tears slid down my cheeks as she fell apart in front of me.

"Please Ms. Sanchez I have a message for you." I said, and she looked at me confused.

"A message from who? A message won't bring my boy back." She cried, and I nodded and tried to clear my throat before speaking.

"It, it was from Derek." I cried, and she stopped sobbing and looked at me in anger.

"How dare you come to his grave and lie. My boy was attacked by an animal and yet you say he left you a message!" She cried out in anger, shaking my arms painfully. "You were the one who was found with pet jaguars, the animal that killed mí hijo! (my son)" She yelled, and I cried before holding my hands up and showing surrender.

"They weren't nice at first, I know that for a fact. But please understand that I had no part in your sons death. I, I was there when he passed but I tried my best to help him get away. We were prisoners together, and he had me sing to him as he passed." I said and tried to reason with her, it was only sensible that she would not like me knowing that I owned the animals that she thought killed her son. When in fact it wasn't an animal exactly that killed him, at least they weren't the only thing that killed him.

"And why should I believe a word that you say? I do not know you nor, do I trust you." She glared, and began collecting her things. Running out of options, I grabbed her hand and motioned for her to be patient as I turned around and moved my dress to the side to her my scar from when the jaguars attacked me.

"They weren't always kind to me either, but I cannot leave without fulfilling my promise to give you his message." I said, now gripping her wrist to refuse her the right to leave. She looked up at me with shock, but nodded her head in cooperation to listen to what I had to say.

"He wanted me to tell you to leave the man you were with, he said the man was no good and that you need to be strong and take care of the little ones." I said, and she looked up at me as if she saw a ghost. "He said other things in Spanish but I could not understand him, I am truly sorry for your loss." With that I left to the next funeral that I had, I didn't bother waiting for her response because there was nothing more I could give or say to her to repay her for the loss of her son. I had to leave for the one other funeral that would kill me the most. Most would have assumed I meant my mother's funeral, but this wasn't her funeral.

I regretfully say that my mother did not get a furneral but a small ceremony in our backyard. Her body was never recovered on that aweful day, and no one was quite sure where it disappeared to. It was a great shock to me that I could not find it in me to cry over her loss, and I felt like a monster for not shedding a single tear. Is that really how messed up the island made me? I thought as I nodded to Jason and he began to drive to her funeral.

They held a ceremony for her and her brother at the same time. Their mother was falling apart, and I couldn't blame her. To lose two or more children at once is probably one of the hardest things to ever happen to someone. Of course death itself is hard on a person, but those were her only children and they were so young. I tried to walk up and place a flower on her casket, but seeing her frail body only brought back terrible memories.

Jason pulled me back and had me wait until the ceremony was over and cleared before I could reach out to their mother. When I reached her, I gave my condolences, and took off the necklace that I had wore close to my heart these past few months. We all needed to move on, but you can't just move on from something like that. We are all deeply scarred, and it will take years for us to get over the things we went through on the island.

However, I handed her mother the necklace and she looked up at me with sadness. "What is this?" She asked as she looked over it's contents.

"We were all given necklaces on the island with numbers, as if to give us a new identity. We all got one, but when she...... When she died, I couldn't find it in me to let her go. She had it in her hand as if to hand it to me, and I've kept it ever since. I thought you might, you must like to have it." I as I tried to keep strong. Her mother sobbed and rubbed the number in her hand before looking at my own necklace.

"Number one, were you given a number or chosen one?" She asked, but didn't let me respond before she continued. "You must have been their leader, but why would you care for a little girl more than anyone else. It is a big responsibility for someone your age and especially in your position or at least the position you were in." She wept, looking into her son's casket in sandess. "He didn't have a necklace, why?" She asked and I looked down ashamed.

"He and almost all of the other younger kids didn't make it that long." I said and she nodded as she let a louder sob escape her lips and looking into my eyes with so much pain. "How, how did he die?" She asked, trying to be strong and I just shook my head at her as tears filled my eyes. "I must know, I need to know how my children died from someone who was there. I need to know." She said, and I let the tears trail down my cheeks as I looked back into her eyes.

"He and almost all of our other young kids died from dehydration. They hadn't left us much supplies to survive and they had been drinking sea water. Once we became aware of it and how it made them sick, we began to boil water over a fire with the resources we could find. Only two or so of the kids had survived after that. One of those two kids were Mina, and also a boy named Kole. She told me stories about Jimmy and the two only really would talk and hangout with me. We..." I stopped as a sob escaped my lips, and I tried to keep my memories under control.

"We became very close, they never left my side. I had gotten captured by the other group of kids that had been left there years prior, and another boy was taken with me named Derek. I have just come from his funeral so please don't question me about him as this is tough enough for me as it is." I said and she looked at me sadly but nodded her head for me to continue.

"Without Jimmy, Mina looked up to me as a big sister, and she was in full panic while I was gone. But then I came back and promised not to leave her ever again." once again I had to stop as a sob escape my wretched lips and I continued on once more. "But these men came and had us surrounded. They made us all line up and they were going to take her away, but I wouldn't let them. I took her place and was taken away on some boat with a couple of others. I will not speak of the scarring moments that happened there either, but of the fact that when we escaped." She nodded again, wiping some stray tears from her face as I began again.

"We came back and the small home We had all made was burnt to the ground, and everyone was missing. Since there weren't any bodies, we assumed it was the other group and went on to attack and rescue our people. The only problem was that we found out that they were missing people to, and it was the people who had put us on the wretched island in the first place that were the ones who had our people. We busted in to save everyone and I gave up my life as a sacrifice to let her live, she was supposed to live." I said and broke down crying, trying to contain it but not succeeding very well. Once I was ready, I continued and felt bad that I made her cry.

"They were letting everyone free but she wouldn't leave me, the were all waiting for her across the room and the guy was waiting to shoot me. I made her leave, I pushed her towards the others but when he saw she was my weakness he shot her instead. Then the building began collapsing and everyone tried to run and leave." Her mother then collapsed sobbing, and she grabbed my wrist.

"I do not blame you for her death and you shouldn't either, you couldn't possibly know that he was going to shoot my little girl. But I was told she was barried with Jimmy along where you kids were, they never mentioned a collapsed building." She said and I nodded.

"I carried her all the way back so that she could rest with her big brother, it's what she would have wanted." I sobbed and she engulfed me into a hug as we both cried at the lowering casket. Jimmy was still barried next to her, but in all honesty I had come for her mostly. I wanted to attend everyone's funerals but there just wasn't enough time in the world for that, not with everything that's been happening recently.

The FBI that showed up at the school and that were retrieving the bodies had asked all of our parents to keep us all together in this building while they did pyshc evaluations with us. This way no one felt alone and panicked from being separated from the rest of us. It was pretty much like staying in a homeless shelter, we were all bunked and there was always a guard or two patrolling us. They were always making sure everyone was behaving like they should.

We didn't like them there, there was something about them that rubbed us the wrong way, and we didn't like it very much. Jason and I were then driven back to our temporary home for the time being and I went to look for Matt and Max. They were our leaders while Jason and I stepped out, making sure nothing happened to our people while we were gone. Its weird now that we're free, we aren't on the island anymore but we are still united for the time being. The guards avoid where I slept because my jaguars all stayed in that corner, protecting our property from those we do not trust just yet.

Upon arriving, everyone seemed frantic and I went up to Liz to see what was wrong. "I'm going to find Matt and Max in a second, why is everyone so tense?" I asked, and Liz looked at me with the same frantic eyes.

"They took all of our guards, your brother too. Everyone who has been protecting us other than you and Jason, I wouldn't be surprised if they came for him next. They say they just want to run some tests and make sure they haven't lost their minds with war like life strategies rather than every days life techniques. Jason and I looked at each other before I began looking around at our people.

We had about eighteen guards, but about thirty of our people were missing. "And you said just the guards were taken?" I asked and she nodded before looking around and trying to see what I was seeing.

"Yeah.. why?" She asked, unable to see what I saw.

"Because more than just our guards are not here." I said and Jason noticed at the same time she did after I said that. I began to walk around and look for Amanda and Sage, the two of them were still here. Both were wisely sitting with the jaquars. They knew that the guards wouldn't come after them if they stayed where my animals were, and they looked relieved when I'm seeing me approach.

"Where are the others, what can you tell me about our missing people?" I asked, already growing angry with these new agents who think they can just take us without letting the others know while I was away.

"They took the scrawniest of us out, said they had been cleared to go home. Funny thing is that they never put them through any testing, didn't even ask them their names or anything. Just said that they could call their parents to come pick them up." She said and glared at the second door to the right of the building, Liz wouldn't have been able to see the kids taken away from where she had been standing.

Angrily, I charged over to the door and began to bang on it. I didn't plan on stopping until it opened, but it didn't and men had pulled me away from the door. In an instant my friends were at my side to help me. They attacked the men and began trying to pull them away from me. Other men came in and began restraining our people until my jagaurs ran in to the rescue. While they stood their ground between the guards and us, we all tensly watched each others moves as we circled one another.

After about five minutes of doing so, a man with a black patch over his eye came in and all of his guards froze. Now at a stand still, his men all stood straight like soldiers and saluted him. "What is going on here?" He yelled, his voice deep and filled with annoyance. He stood about six foot tall with a military build and bald headed. All of the men froze and looked at one another for an answer before the elected guy stepped forward and glanced back my way.

"Well sir, she began banging on the door like a lunatic and we thought she had gone insane. Once we tried to reprimand her, the rest all joined in on trying to fight us for her." He said while pointing a shaking finger my way.

"Ah I see, and do you know who she is?" The man asked, and the guy looked back at me confused before shaking his head. An obviously wrong answer by the look of disappointment on the patch eye'd man's face, and the look of fear in the elected guys eyes. "That is Noami, the one who lead them all to the safety that we have given them here. Without her they would all still be on the island which is why they all came to her side." He said and the man's eyes went wide as he looked back at me. I gave a forced smile and wave before turning it back into a glare as I suspiciously looked at the man who knew who I was and seemed to their leader.

I didn't trust him, I didn't trust any of them. They were nice which was true, but they rubbed me the wrong way and I couldn't put my finer on why just yet. The way he explained who I was, it sounded as though he resented me for what I had done. Wouldn't he be happy that I got us all to safety rather than angry? It could just be my mind messing with me due to the amount of times we had been betrayed or set up and captured on the island, but I still didn't trust him. "I'm sorry sir." He said with tears in his eyes as he was escorted out of the room by a couple of nearby guards. The pasty skinned leader of theirs took a couple of daring steps in my direction, hands up to act as though he came in peace. It seemed to keep everyone calm, but I knew better than to let my guard down around anyone anymore.

"I apologize for his unprofessional behavior, they shouldn't have let a newbie in here to guard you guys which is a matter I will be discussing with them the moment I go back there. We are here to help you, not hurt you. I hope we can all put this behind ourselves and have a better started first thing tomorrow. We will be testing more of you tomorrow to see if you are able to go home as well, I'm sure you all would like that very much." He said with a smile before turning on his heel and begining to leave. I didn't buy his act, he had to be up to something and yet I just didn't know what yet.

"You will see that our guards and people who haven't been picked up yet will be returned here by night fall correct?" I asked, and he stopped before turning around and looking at me with a forced grin.

"Of course dear, we don't plan on keeping you away forever." He smiled with a wink, and then continued on through the exit.

"What was that supposed to mean?" I said, and Jason watched the mans back as he left as well.

"I'm not sure, but I don't like the looks of that guy either." He said, and a couple more heads nodded in agreement beore everyone dispersed back to where ever they had been hanging out at. Amanda, Liz, Jason, and I all huddled back in the corner with the Jaquars while talking. Not missing the fact that all of the guards seemed to be trying to listen into our conversations and keep a special eye on me for some reason.

"Why do you suppose that he hasn't gotten any of us checked yet?" I asked, putting air quotes on the word checked. They all strugged and Jason sighed.

"I only know that I wasn't taken back because I was out with you, but you would think they would have called me back by now or even told me to stay here if it was important testing to see if we could go home or not." He said, and I nodded in agreement as he leaned his head again the wall and looked up at the sky through the clear glass sky windows. "I just want to be able to go to my mother and apolgize once more, to get to see her face again." He said, but then I thought back to the look on my mother's face when she was shot right in front of me, and I had trouble keeping my emotions under the rug.

He hugged me against him with a kiss to my forehead as I laid against his chest, content for the time being. I didn't like the fact that when they had taken Max though, they needed to just leave him alone. He's been through so much already and their constant questioning and tactics will only make him worse. I wanted him to come back here to live a normal life and to be happy, not to be locked up here and bombarded with a million questions. Everyone flocked to him like he was some new specimen that no one had ever seen before, and they all wanted to be the first to document it.

They made me sick, the didn't see a man but rather just an organism that they wanted to study and write about. I of course wouldn't be leaving until everyone else had been sent home, but that doesn't mean I like them asking questions. They had no business asking Max anything except for what he had experienced once he was with us. Just as I thought that, he and our guards were released back to us, and a few people who had been taken through the doors. "I thought they said that you could go home?" asked Liz, and the four kids shrugged.

"Our parents didn't pick up, they said we could try
