That night I had slept on the beach, to the side and alone. I was the only one smart enough to know how to make a fire apparently, and so they all slept cold. When morning came, it was raining and my fire had been put out. The guards were still sleeping, along with most of the kids. I opened my pack and found a poncho, and put it on before searching for other useful items. I found a knife, a small mirror, some crackers, an apple, a few medical supplies, and a compass. I also found a plain piece of paper and a pencil. I kept the apple and knife out before putting all of the items away and hitting the sand to keep my fire from starting up again. I headed for the woods when I heard someone from behind me. "Where do you think your going?" It was a guy from my school named Ricky, he was the quarter back of our football team and the school bully.

"Into the woods, you guys don't want me here so I'll just live in the woods until I die." I shrugged and headed off, but he grabbed my arm firmly.

"Well if you're so set on dying, that can be arranged." He smirked as he grabbed my pack from me, and pushed me into a tree.

"Let go of me Ricky." I glared, and he glared back before putting his knife to my throat.

"I don't take orders from you." He smirked, then traced his knife along the hem of my shirt.

"I think the girl's right on this one, you ought to let her go." Ricky stiffened and turned to see the son behind him and aiming his gun. Ricky slowly backed up, but paused to whisper to me before leaving for good.

"Watch your back your highness, you won't have pretty boy here to protect you all of the time." He smirked before eyeing me up and down, and walking back to the other kids.

I nodded to the son before repicking up my pack and heading to the woods. "You should stick with the group ya know, just for a little longer at least." He said, and I nodded before throwing my pack against a tree and looked around for anything useful. "Why do you separate yourself from the others?" He asked, and I was beginning to get annoyed with him.

"What does it matter to you?" I said, and he put his hands up in surrender. He was going to walk away, but I had more to say. "How can you people just take kids and send them off to die?" I asked, and he kept quiet. The man remained standing there for a bit longer before finally walking away. I put my knife in my mouth as I climbed up the tree to get a good look at the island, and the guard looked back at me once more before leaving.

I climbed to the top and looked around. I saw the kids, the guards, the tiny island with the trunk, and then turned to look around the other way. It was a bunch of trees, but far on the other side I thought I saw smoke. When I climbed back down, people looked over at me, and I realised that some of the kids were huddled at the shore. That's when I saw Ricky took off his shirt and pants. I walked over and people glared, but I ignored them and walked to Ricky. "Ricky what are you doing?"

"That trunk or chest thing may have supplies we need, so I'm going to swim out and get it if you really must know."

"There's sharks in the water." I said, he seemed a bit scared until he saw the kids looking at him and tried to act big.

"Then I'll fight the shark and ride him like a horse back to shore." I rolled my eyes as the others cheered while he dove into a wave, this caught the attention of some of the guards.

"Go shark bait!" One of the guards yelled and laughed, but it scared the other kids and they took a couple steps back from the shore. Ricky stopped swimming about five yards out and smirked at me.

"Where's your sharks at your highness." He laughed, and the kids laughed with him until someone squinted out to the left of the shore.

"Shark!" She yelled and pointed to the fin that was gaining on Ricky.

"Swim back Ricky!" I yelled, and he tried to swim back as quickly as possible, but then he screamed.

"It's got my leg!" He yelled, and I could see blood starting to float in the waves. Kids panicked, and the guards pulled everyone back from the shore. I couldn't just let him die like I let Joyce. I looked around and remembered the knife in my pocket, then ducked under the guards arms and sprinted for the shore.

"Naomi don't!" Yelled the son, but I dove in and swam out to help my classmate. He was loosing consciousness and I dove under the water to see where the shark had his leg. It was a hammer head as far as I could tell, and it had him by the ankle. I saw Ricky was starting to sink under and I quickly shoved my knife into the sharks gills. Like I thought it would, it let go of his leg and swam off. I made sure to pull my knife back out of it, and put it in my pocket before grabbing Ricky and trying to swim us back. He was getting heavier the closer we were to the shore, thankfully some of the guys came over to help me. I flopped down onto the sand to catch my breath, by now the guards were with the crowd and I could see the son staring at me.

"He's bleeding!" Panicked one of the girls, so I rolled over to my side and stood up before crawling over to him. The kids blocked me from getting to him and I glared. "I saved him, now can I help him again or do any of you'se know what to do?" I said, and they looked at each other before backing away.

I took off my jacket and ripped it before tying it tightly above his wound. I quickly made a fire and waited a bit until it became hot before holding my knife above it. When the knife was hot enough, I made sure there were no teeth in his wound and looked at the guys around. "Hold him down tightly." I said, and even some guards came to help. I reheated the blade a bit and placed it flat against his wound to close it off. I wasn't a doctor, so it wasn't like I had many knowledge over the procedure or antibiotics, but this would have to do. He screamed out in pain from the burning blade. When I was done, I threw water on the fire and put wet sand over it before walking back to my pack. Girls were huddled around him, and the guards had returned to their little huddle while I took out my paper and pencil. I turned it so that it was long in length and fat at the sides, then began to map out my surroundings. When I finished the map, I put it away and saw Ricky beginning to stand up and grab his things. "Thank you your heighness, shark Sleigher for my life!" He yelled, and the guards along with a couple of kids cheered. I saw that other kids picked up their packs and followed Ricky, he sat his pack down next to mine as he and the kids sat down.

"I'm sorry for judging you, we shouldn't have judged you for her death." He said, and they nodded along with him. "No more death threats, a life for a life and so I am in debt to you." He bowed and I laughed which caused the other kids to laugh as they all looked at me. "What's next?" Asked a girl who had been called up with me.. Chelsea I believe it was. "We'll have to make camp here for now, but I did see smoke on the other side of the island so we will check if its our classmates when we are able."

"They are no longer our classmates Sparks, they are family. We all need to stick together and have each others backs or we will die a whole lot quicker." Said this girl tiffany, and I nodded in agreement. I pulled out my map and showed them. "This is what we know so far. A group of us will start exploring tomorrow, and the others will start building shelter. Check your packs and make sure you have a knife if you're in the carpentry group."

"I'm coming with you." Said Ricky, but I shook my head.

"They need a strong figure to support them here. The others listen to you, you need to watch the guards, and you won't get far on your ankle."

"Okay, I get it!" He sighed, and the girls laughed as we all ate our apples. "Save your crackers, those will be our surviving food until we can find more, we will also bring back food if we can find any. I suggest to try fishing, but stay close to shore." I gave out my orders, and by the time I finished the other groups came over.

"We're in." I meant to say no, but they all looked so serious and I shrugged since we did need the people.

"Guards, you are our hunters... Half of you stay and catch fish, a quarter will be security. " Steadilythe now, I began to give out more orders.

"of what?" Spoke a random guard.

"We don't know that we are the only people on this island, and we don't know if that fire was our people. And the lasting guards will be coming with us. Ricky, Chelsea, Derek, Chad, Tiffany, (and five others). you guys are on carpentry. Peter, Karrol, Donny, Katie, you are fishing as well. Christian, Carl, Tommy, Franky, Lisa, Gregory, you'se are in charge of finding supplies for our shelter and food within the first five feet of the woods no further. Liz, Beth, Charles, Jose, your coming with me." Everyone nodded and it felt good to have no arguments and just agreeing with me for once. Everyone brought over their packs and I made a decent fire in the middle for us all and we all broke into our groups to discuss what we were going to do tomorrow.

Of course I ended up with the son, and my group sat at the shore to speak privately. I had been sharpening a thick stick with my knife. "Why does it look like your making a spear as if we're going to be fighting an invisible enemy?" Said Liz, and I glared back. "Because if there are other people that are violent or dangerous animals out there you don't think your going to get very far with one tiny knife do you?" I said and her face flushed when she realized I was being smart and she got her butt handed to her. "What are we doing tomorrow?" Cut in the son and he annoyed me so much. "First we'll need weapons which we can make when we wake up.

Then we will set out for the woods, we will venture until the sun starts to go down but then we must get back. We will try and bring back animals to cook otherwise we will starve, oh and try to memorize the woods in case we need it. I have started to drawl a map which the rest of you'se may copy in the morning and add on when we find specific things that will help us know where we are on this island. We stick together or at least in speaking distance, I don't want to loose anyone. Any sign of danger or food you signal the others and don't go off on your own." Once I said that, they all nodded and we stood up. Just as we headed back, I heard my name and saw everyone in the carpentry group look at me. "What shall we call this place?" Asked Ricky, and I already had something to call it.

"Survival island." He wrote it down on a piece if wood and smirked.

"Just a sign of remembrance, even a welcome sign if you'd like. Kind of like when you enter a new state, well ours is just a big sign that says Survival island."

I nodded and they all looked at me as the rest of the groups came back. I fed the fire more wood and took my spot as the others did as well. "This is base, no one goes far once the sun goes down, we need to stay in hearing distance in case of enermencies. I suggest we all get some sleep, we have a big day tomorrow." I said, and they nodded as we all laid in the spot we were at. I was amazed at how quickly people's opinions about you could change In a matter of seconds, and I really hoped that Mandy was okay.

That next morning I went to a tree and made a dash mark so we knew how many days we had been here. I woke up the others and we began to make spears out of wood. The guards had their guns but who's to say how much longer they will last. We tried to get the dead guards guns, but they were all jammed. We couldn't even burry the dead guards because they either floated out or were eaten by something in the water. When we each had five spears, we grabbed our packs and headed into the forest. "What kind of animals do you think well see?" Liz asked one of the guards and he shrugged.

"Big ones?"

"Oh your so smart, and handsome." She was way to flirty and it annoyed me, she needs to stay focused. As soon as Ricky gets better, I am totally swapping her out. We made it about a half an hour before seeing any animals, and I was relieved to have found a bunny. One of the guards raised and aimed his gun, but I lowered it before he had a chance to shoot. "Don't waste the amo, we may need it some other time." I said and then Jose threw his spear, luckily it hit the rabbit and I high fived him as the guards collected the kill and put it in their bag.

We kept on going, and then there was a big broken tree. I made sure to draw it on my map. We all moved about together and kept quiet, listening for any noises nearby. We were all starving but only allowed ourselves three crackers to save the rest for emergencies. A little farther into the woods, we caught two more bunnies and I had my sights set on a deer. I croutched down and prepared to aim when a jaguar came out of no where and attacked it. I fell back and the other did too as the predator ate its meal. "One shot to the head." I whispered to one of the guards and he nodded before aiming, but he kept aiming for about five minutes. The son sighed, aimed, and killed the jaguar with a headshot without blinking.

"We need to work on your aim and emotions." He said before walking over to the animals.

"I'm sorry." He said, and I shook my head.

"Not everyone is meant to kill. An honorable man feels sorrowful and gives thanks for his kill, he doesn't rejoice. Killing is killing, and it doesn't make it right." I said, and he nodded before going to help the others with the animals. I took out my map and drew a tiny jaguar and deer on my map to show where the bigger foods are, and drew a bunny and squirrel back where we found those.

"Let's head back, I know its early, but I believe we have enough for today." I ordered, and they nodded as we began to head back to base. It was a little dark when we got back, and I wrote that down so we knew how long it was until we reached the items. The others cheered when they saw the food, and I created a fire while also teaching a couple of the kids how to make one as well. They fried up the jaguar, and wrapped the deer in Panchos. The jaguar wasn't too tasty, but it filled our stomachs and we had fish set aside as well. We decided not to venture out into the woods tomorrow, and that we would all help the carpentry with work, and go fishing if we needed to. Everyone ate together, and we made Tiffany and Pete our designated cooks.

Everyone laughed and smiled for the first time since we were sent here. Sure they laughed before, but it just wasn't the same. Now everyone felt as one, and even the guards were being welcomed in. Once the wooden cooking stand was put aside, I fed the fire and everyone gathered round the campfire. "Naomi?" Called one of the girls, she had to at least be a freshman. I hated to see little kids with us because I felt like they would die, and it was all my fault.

"Yes?" I asked, and the girl seemed embarrassed by everyone looking at her

"Do you mind making up a story or maybe even a song? It helps me sleep." I patted the empty spot next to me, and she brought her stuff over before curling up on the sand beside me and closing her eyes. I ran my finger through her hair as I began to hum and it helped, but a couple minutes later she opened her eyes again. By now half of the kids were sleeping, and I think the rest were waiting on me or almost asleep. "Please sing to me, it's what my mom would do when I was scared."

"Don't be scared, we-" I couldn't tell her not to be scared, we ate jaguar for dinner, anything could be lurking within the trees and I felt so badly that I couldn't promise her safety. I nodded my head and started to run my fingers through her hair again as I tried to sing.

"Come now little ones and close your eyes,
as we fall asleep under the stary skies.
I know that we have drifted far from home, but know dear little ones that you are not alone...

Rest your mind, be safe and warm,
This is just a little storm.
All will end and you will be,
Back home with your family.......

I saw that most of them were sleeping and my eyes watered. I saw the son looking at me, I looked back at her.

This journey will soon come to end,
We join together, family and friend.
So come now little ones and close your eyes,
Until we all sleep under the stary skies.
Until we sleep under the star-y.....skies.........

I saw the guy was still staring at me and was embarrassed so I closed my eyes and tried to fall asleep. "You sing nice." He said, and I gave him a thumbs up before going to sleep. This caused him to laugh, but then I did eventually fall asleep for the night.
