"What the hell was that?" I yell as I follow Noah to his car. He's not slowing down, but I wish he would. "Answer me, Noah."

He finally pauses when he gets to his truck, turning around to face me and placing his right hand on the hood of the car. "I don't know, Fee, why don't you tell me? You kiss strangers now? Is that your new thing since we're no longer together?"

"Says the person who does it like it's his job."

"No, you don't get to do that. Don't play the fucking victim," he shakes his head and says as he goes to open his car door.

Before he slides in, I walk over to his side and slam the door shut to show him that I don't want him to leave until we talk this out. I reach for his cheek in an effort to calm him, but he swats it away.

"Don't," he says. But I can tell from the pain in his eyes that he doesn't mean it.

"No, you don't. Don't push me away," I tell him.

"Oh, so now you're the one who gets to decide what goes on here? How could you not see that I've been fighting for us all this time?"

"How, Noah? Showing up to a party with some sleazy girl was your way of fighting for us? Trying to stop me from leaving your house with my own brother was fighting for us? What did you want me to do?"

He looks at me hard before opening his mouth. "I wanted you to tell me that you wanted to be with me, too."

"Why?" I shout. "Where is that getting us?"

"I don't know," he looks down and shakes his head. "I don't know."

Noah's given up. I see it. I feel it. And he shows it when he gets into his car and drives away.
