Third Person POV

If you personify love even in times of trouble, of hardship or war, then you are truly one of the mighty. I see how no matter the stresses laid upon you, that you show more grace than many do in times of plenty. It is in those moments of pain and fear I see right to your soul and know that my faith in you, my love for you, is eternal. You are brave, kind, always giving of yourself. I want you to know that I will be the same for you; I will be your mirror, bring you what you give others - true love, the lasting kind.

"You will be safe with me" Madame Angellier says to Anna as she hands her a small bar of chocolate as they sit in the small hiding place from earlier on; Anna not knowing what has happened to her mother – totally oblivious.

A Mother's love is something that no one can explain,
It is made of deep devotion and of sacrifice and pain,
It is endless and unselfish and enduring come what may
For nothing can destroy it or take that love away

"All done." The soldier spoke to Bruno about the travel pass for Amelia. "Except that tobacco I smelt couldn't have been yours. There was no trace of it in your room."

Bruno's eyes went wide as he knew what was about to come next. The soldier did not suspect anything of Bruno; all he did was follow his instinct – he was not in the wrong, Bruno knew that but he could not help but feel so drawn and caught up in Amelia's love.

"Don't worry, sir, I took care of it." He assures Bruno. "If she's got anything to hide they'll find it at the checkpoint. I put a note in with the travel pass to search the car."

"Very good." Bruno lied; knowing he had a short space of time to stop that note before it was too late.

"Also, Major, Steiner is waiting for you in front of the hotel." He smiles and Bruno salutes the man as he gets on his bike; ignoring all commands – knowing he would be in a lot of trouble for doing so.

Amelia's POV

"Good day." The German called to me as I opened my window; my heart leapt out of my chest as the German stared coldly at me.

"Hello." I mumbled back to him as he holds his gun tightly against his chest.

"Where are you going?" He asks me as I get my papers out.

"Paris." I stutter, getting more and more nervous by the second.

"Papers." He snaps as I hand them to him; he reads them through and frowns slightly. Then he turns around to the other soldier. "Come over here!"

"Deal with it yourself Gustav, it's just a damn woman." He shouts back as he sits down; drinking a beer.

He turned back to me as he looked around the car slightly; fury flashed through his face as he pointed the gun to me.

"Get out!" He shouted and I slowly moved my hand into my bag; pulling the small handgun into my coat pocket as I got out the car.

"Open" He snaps; taking me to the door of the car – I open it and it reveals nothing. He takes me around the back of the car.

"Open!" He pushes the gun against my back as I put my hand on the handle – going ever so slowly.

I slowly unlock the boot of the car; not knowing what to expect.

"Faster!" He screams.

I open it and the sounds of gunshots go off; Benoit killing the German in front of me. I rush behind the car as Benoit gets out, starting to shoot at the other man.
Bullets whizz past me as I try to control my anxious behaviour as the bullets scrape past my face. I was scared and I knew I was showing it too. As I stood up, I tried to hold the gun I had in my pocket; trying to kill the man in front of me, who was trying to kill me.

As I looked to my right, I saw Benoit fall to the ground; a bullet had injured his leg. I tried to shoot the man in front of me but it was no use, my hands were shaking and the aim was not accrete. But I knew if I did not hurry, I would be shot too.
Before I could do anything else, the sound of a gunshot went off; expecting it was my own, I saw the German fall to the floor. Then I see Benoit beside me, holding a gun in his hands as he tries to control his pain.

I try to help Benoit up; I hear the sound of an engine come close to us. I look up to see Bruno. My heart races and the adrenaline kicks in; leaving me feeling so caught up in my emotions once again. Bruno looks to me is despair and shock as he sees his fellow German soldiers, dead. My gun was still in my hands; aimed at Bruno; I wanted to shoot, I did not want him to tell – but I couldn't. I was madly in love with him and I knew it.

He walks over to me, ignoring the gun in my hands and grabs Benoit's arms; wrapping it around his shoulders as he looks back to me.

"Hold onto me." He tells Benoit. "Amelia, help me."

Benoit stumbles to the car as he screams out in pain; looking confused at the kind German officer as he helps him in the car.

"Open it." He breathes out as I open the door; Bruno laying down Benoit in the car before I shut the door.

I look to Bruno as he grips my waist and pulling me in his embrace for the last time. Leaning to him, I kiss his cheek; crying as I walk away from him; pushing him away before I can manage to do anything else.

The pain kills me as I take each step away from him; getting into the car and watching his get smaller and smaller as I drive away. Tears stream down my face as I try to concentrate but all I can think of is him.

Hardly a word of our true feelings had ever been spoken. Not a single word about love. After the war I heard that Bruno had died. But maybe he just disappeared, like me. I drove Benoit to a farmhouse and a week later we made it to Paris. We fought for what we believed in and four years later France was free.

Over time I tried to forget the people I lost, but the music always carries me back to him.
