Third Person POV

"I thought you said you were going to take the horse in yourself." Madeleine looked to her husband confused as he came out to her with the horse in his hand; seeing the German truck coming quickly to the house.

Madeleine looked to her husband even more confused as he closed his eyes in panic. He looked to her as she shook her head in annoyance.

"What have you done?" She gasped in fear as she stood up. " Go. I'll distract them. Boys, quick. Now."

Benoit kisses Madeleine with all the willpower he has left inside of him; the Germans came closer as Madeleine held her children close to her body as they all came from the crowd.

"I have a warrant for the arrest of Benoit Labarie." The German ordered as he looked to Madeline. "Where is he?"

"He's in the field." She muttered as they looked to each other.

"You four to the field, the rest search the house!" They all looked around the area of the house to find her husband.

While the other soldiers tore down the house and the fields, Bonnet had other plans of the barn that was situated on the outside of the farm. Benoit had planned to hide there until the Germans went; to hide alongside his guns he stashed. But it seemed that someone else had gotten there before him.

"I don't know what's wrong with you farmers." Bonnet mockingly laughed as he came from the shadows. "Always stashing your guns in the same places. Come down. You won't be in the labour camp for long. The Viscount begged for leniency."

Benoit watched Bonnet like a hawk as he walked around the man; mocking him as Benoit stayed on a limp.

"It's likely to be a year. Plenty of time for me to fuck your wife while you shovel frozen shit in Buchenwald." Bonnet smirked as it struck a nerve in Benoit.

They both started to attack one another. Benoit full of anger at the thought of Bonnet touching is wife in a sexual manner. They fist fought each other as they both tried to get the gun that had fallen to the ground beside them. Benoit punched Bonnet in the face; grabbing the gun in his hands and aiming it at the soldier in front of him, who fought back.

Then a gunshot went off, sending the Germans in the barn and seeing their dead officer on the ground; a pool of blood around his head; with no sign of the perpetrator.

Amelia's POV

I stood there. I stood waiting for him to come and eat with me, like we discussed; but there was no sign of him whatsoever. Sitting at the dining table, I saw heard a small knock at the door. I quickly stood up, hoping to see Bruno at the door – but he would not knock?

As I went to the door, I saw Madeleine at the door. She quickly rushed in as she looked around the house; looking ever so panicked about something. Falling into my arms slightly, she held in her tears as she looked to me.

"Madeleine" I gasped.

"Is your mother in law home?" She asked as I shook my head no.

"No, she is away for the night." I mutter. "What's happened?"

Third Person POV

While Madeleine poured her heart out to Amelia, the German regiment went on a look out to find Benoit. They brought dogs and armed men with them as they searched for Benoit everywhere around Bussy.

They ripped apart homes, shops, businesses; hoping to find Benoit. Leaving destruction in their path as they tore apart everything in their path.

"Bruno!" The commanding officer called him. "Bonnet is dead. You are now in charge."

Bruno was now in charge of sending out the search parties and any order given to the German army as they looked for Benoit.

"Spread out!" The men called to each other as they allowed the dogs to sniff out a man.

Amelia's POV

"How do you know where he is?" I asked her in shock as she drank the drink I gave her.

"There's an old hunting lodge in the woods." She sniffled.

"And no one's offered to take him in?" I frown as I hold her hand.

"That's why I'm here." Madeline looks to me. "They let me go, but they're watching me."

If they're watching" I gasp as I frown, shaking my head. "-you shouldn't have come here."

"Look, Benoit's a good man. And no one else is going to help him." She cries out to me. "And he can't move very fast. And they'll hunt him and find him. And when they do, they'll kill him. You're the only one that can help me now, please."

"I..." I choke up as I don't know what to say to her. "I'm sorry. I don't..."

She shook her head at me as she turned to see the table I had set out for Bruno and I when he returned back to me. I closed my eyes, knowing what was about to come next.

"I thought you said Madame was away." She frowned, looking to see my guilty face. "Your officer won't be coming, you know. I passed him in the square. He's leading the search party for my husband."

She looked to me as she stood up.

"Shame on you!" She screams to me as I look away from her, unable to see the shame on her face as she looks to me in disgust.

What was I thinking? My friends and neighbours were being hunted like animals while I was living out a fantasy. A disgraceful madness.

As I placed my fingers on the candles to burn the flame. The fire dancing on my fingers slightly as they go out. It killed me inside as I thought of Bruno out with the others; hunting down my dear friend.

As I changed my clothes, I raced to get some of Gaston's old clothes and shoved them in a bag. I raced through the forest to find where Benoit was; trying to avoid any of the soldiers and their dogs. Getting closer to the small Hunting lodge, I looked in to try and see Benoit but I could not see him. As I turned around, I felt someone grab me from behind and put a knife to my throat.

"Do not move" Benoit snaps to me as I choke slightly.

"Benoit it is Amelia." I gasp and he pulls away immediately.

"Amelia?" He frowns. "What are you doing here?"

"The dogs have got your scent." I inform him as I throw the bag to him. "Put these on and come with me."
