Hazel POV

"What do you mean my past few smiles have been fake?" I look up at Ian and he starts walking ahead of me.

"Earlier when Mason asked about your hoodie I noticed that you hesitated to answer his question." I look at him with wide eyes, "You're bad at hiding your feelings Quiet." He grabs my hand and pulls me pass our first-period class.

"Ian?! Where are we going?!" Without letting go of my hand or even looking at me he says, "The roof. I know you still have the key on you." I stop walking and cross my arms, "I actually don't have the key, so let's head back toward our class."

As I'm turning around I hear something jingle. I stop walking and slowly turn back around to the boy in front of me holding the roof keys with a smirk on his face. "How did you even get them?"

He throws them up and catches them when they come back down, "When I walked passed you I grabbed them off the side of your book bag." I roll my eyes and walk pass him, "I guess I'm going to the roof."

He follows behind me with a triumphant smile on his face. Minutes later we are on the rooftop. "Why did you want to come up here so bad?"

He looks at me and slides to the floor, "I want you to tell me the reason behind your fake smiles today." I roll my eyes, "What makes you think my smiles have been fake? There's nothing wrong with me at all."

He lets out a long sigh, "After this, you have to tell me the reason." I slowly nod my head. "Usually when you show a real smile you look at me and the others who are around you. But this time you only looked at the people who talked to you. Which were Mason and you talked to Austin because you and him needed to do something."

I stare at him shockingly with wide eyes, I don't want to tell him what's going on in my house. Why should I tell him these things? I know nothing about him whatsoever.

Sighing in defeat I sit in front of him, "When I came home last night me and my mom got into it. She kept asking me why was I out so late. I told her it has nothing to do with her and walked up to my room." Ian looks at me with something in his eyes. I ignore his look and continue, "She started fussing me out for talking to her any ole kind of way, but I don't care. She wasn't there for me a couple days ago and now she wants to be there for me all of sudden."

This morning it took everything in my power to avoid her. I woke up an hour early just to get out of the house. "You shouldn't talk to your mother like that no matter what. She is your mother Quiet."

I look at him scoff, "Yeah whatever, she's only acting like that because she caught Owen in my room and I ignored her." He stares at me wide-eyed, "What do you mean you got caught?"

"When you dropped me off Owen came over and we talked. My mom comes in all of a sudden and I just push her out of my room and ignored her." I look at him and see anger in his eyes, but it disappears as soon as it appears.

"You really need to stop treating your mom like that." I look at him with irritation clearly on my face, "You don't know what I've been going through. I'm not going to show her any feelings whatsoever."

I let out a long breath, "At least your mom is trying to be there for you. Some people don't have a mother there for them." I suck my teeth, "Don't talk like you don't have your mom around." He looks at me with so much anger that I even coward back from him.

"I don't care anymore. I'm done talking to you about this." He takes out his headphones and puts them on. He leans his head against the wall and closes his eyes.

I wrap my arms around myself and look at him, "Are you going to ignore me for the rest of the time?" He doesn't even open his eyes, I slowly reach out to tap him, "Ian, are you really doing this?"

He turns his music up and anger goes through my body, "Ian! You can't just force me to stay up here with you and not like the outcome of it!" I hit him on his leg and he quickly looks at me, "Why the hell did you just hit me?!"

I sit up on my knees and he does the same, "You're ignoring me for what reason?!" He pushes me away by my forehead and stands up, "I don't want to talk about it anymore." I look up at him as I rub my forehead, "You brought me up here and all of sudden you don't want to talk about it. That is just so stupid of you!"

He bends down and puts his forehead against mine, "I said I don't want to talk about it no more, now leave it alone or I'll continue to ignore you." I move away from him and sigh, "Fine, I'll leave it alone."

I lean against the wall and cross my arms. Why did he get so upset about it? It's not like any of this is happening to him. He sits back down beside me and looks at me, "Don't forget you're coming to my fight this Saturday."

I nod my head, "Yeah I'm going, but I'll be there a little bit earlier than you. I'm going to watch Owen fight." He rolls his eyes, "I've never heard of this guy before and all of sudden you meet him at a party and at the gym. I didn't even know he was a fighter and that he practices at the same gym as me."

I shrug my shoulders, "I'm just going to see how he is. He's just like you, he has never been defeated." My eyes widen at the new information, "What?! I've never fought him! Why won't they let us fight?!" I hold my hands up in surrender, "I don't know! He was wondering the same thing himself."

He calms down, "I might go myself to see how he is." I look at him and nod, "I think you should, you've never been to someone else fight." He shrugs his shoulders and looks at me with a small smile, "Looks like I'm going to be there earlier than usual."

I clap my hands and laugh, "Why are you so excited?" I clap my hands together, "I don't want to be there by myself." He lets out a soft laugh, "Or did you not want to pay to get in."

My eyes widen in shock, "How did you know?! Did it show on my face?!" He looks at me with wide eyes, "I didn't even know, I just guessed." He starts laughing and I pull my hood further down on my head.

He puts his hand on top of my head and shakes my head from side to side. "That was very cute of you." I put my hand on top of his and look up at him, "At least I tried. I still don't have to pay, right?"

He starts laughing, "No you don't have to pay." I show him a big smile and he looks at me with a glint in his eye. Before he could say anything the bell rings.

I quickly stand up and hold my hand out, "It's time for us to get to our next class, so I will be needing the keys please." He stands up and hands me the keys.

We leave the roof and head to our next class. As we're walking downstairs I see Matthew peeking around the lockers. I walk up to him and Ian follows me, "Matthew! Why are you hiding?"

He jumps when he hears me call for him, "Jesus! Hazel, you almost gave me a heart attack. I do this every day after first period." He looks at Ian with wide eyes, "Don't tell me he's going to bully me for being gay?"

Ian's eyes widen and he throws his hands up in surrender, "Why would I do that?! I'm friends with Austin and he's gay." Matthew looks at me and then back at Ian, "You didn't say anything bad about it?" Ian shakes his head and scratches the back of his neck.

"I was just surprised, I didn't see it coming." Matthew rolls his eyes and looks back at me, "Everyday Austin looks for me after first period, so I hide to avoid him." I roll my eyes and cross my arms, "What did he do to you?"

He looks at me and then at the floor, "Nothing, it's just that I don't want to talk to him right now." He walks off without another word, "He really likes walking off before the conversation is over."

I nod my head agreeing with Ian. "Ian! Where were you first period?!" We both turn around and see Hannah coming our way. I look at Ian and pull my hood more over my head, "Well I'm going now, I'll see you at lunch."

Before he could say anything I speed walk down the hall. As I'm turning the corner I see Megan coming my way. I hug myself and look at the floor as I walk.

She walks pass me and bumps into me, "Watch where you going ugly!" I roll my eyes and continue to walk. All of sudden she pushes me and I fall to the floor, I then feel her kick me.

"Stay away from Ian and Hannah. I see you trying to ruin their relationship." I look at her with so much irritation and pain in my eyes, "How am I trying to ruin their relationship? Me and Ian are just friends nothing more." I stand up and rush to the bathroom and lock it.

I go to the mirror and pull up my hoodie and my shirt. I hiss at the pain as I rub against the new bruise on my upper abdomen. I pull my shirt down and sigh, "This is ridiculous."

Suddenly my phone starts ringing, "Hello." I wipe my eyes and clear my throat.

"I'm in front of your school now. You wanna come or stay?" I look at myself in the mirror and laugh, "I'm coming right now."
