I MAY HAVE DIED WRITING THIS CHAPTER.

ROSEANNE

As I work in my assignment, I can't help but think about today.

My heartbeat had remained erratic the whole time, refusing to stop.

It seems my heart was just as excited as I am.

We hadn't talked today.

I was too nervous to do so.

And school seemed to be eternal as I waited for the clock handle to hit the end of the school day.

It was the last class of the day, but my leg bounced as I thought about him.

Was he nervous as well?

Or was it just me?

•••

"You guys can wait here, Dr. Lawrence will arrive soon." The nurse smiles at my parents and I wait on top of the examination bed.

Not a minute after the nurse leaves, the door opens, revealing Dr. Lawrence.

"Hey, kid." He sends a smile my way as he steps into the room.

"Hi," I say sheepishly.

"You ready?" He asks as he puts a pair of gloves on.

"Yeah,"

"What's this?" He holds my hand.

Yesterday after I regain control of what I was doing, I proceeded to bandage my hand with some gauze I found in my bathroom cabinet.

My parents asked me about it in the morning, but I simply told them that I got hurt while picking up the broken pieces.

"Oh, my brush broke yesterday and a piece managed to cut my palm."

"Let me see." He unwraps the gauze from around my hand and it reveals a cut four inches long.

"It's not deep, thankfully. It might leave a slight scar, but it will fade with time." He begins to apply something on the wound. " Be more careful, Roseanne."

"I will," I mumble as I watch his movements.

Once he finishes, he wraps a new gauze around my palm.

"Okay," He claps once. "Let's get started."

"You haven't had any pain, have you?"

"At first I did, but it went away."

"That's normal."

"Alright, I'm just going to use the cast saw now." He turns on the small electric saw and I watch as he begins to cut the cast off in a diagonal direction.

The moment he's done, he turns the device off and grabs a pair of special scissors that were laying on a silver tray

"I'm going to cut off the cast padding." Dr. Lawrence says as he begins to cut the padding little by little.

I catch my mother's eyes in the process and she sends me a wink to which I smile.

"There! All done." I look away from my mom and glance down to my arm.

I stretch it slightly to get rid of the stiffness and Dr. Lawrence smiles at me.

"Is it stiff?" He asks and I nod.

"That's normal. Do stretch it every now and then so that your arm gets used to it." He grabs my arm and presses down slightly.

"Any pain?" He lets go of my arm.

"No," I tell him.

"If you notice anything wrong with your arm tell your parents to give me a call. Okay?" He waits for me to answer.

"I will."

"That's it then. You're good to go, but don't do any strenuous activities." He warns and I smile at him.

"Thank you."

"No problem, kiddo." He removes the plastic gloves and throws them in the trash.

Pouring some hand sanitizer on his hands, he rubs it in and turns to my parents.

"Thank you, Geoffrey," Dad tells him and they shake hands.

Meanwhile, I dust off my skirt and hop down from the table.

After my parents finish talking, we walk together.

But as we exit the hospital, I feel a sudden wave of emotion surf within me.

I felt overwhelmed.

Despite not having the cast anymore, I could still the ghostly pain that I felt when I broke my arm.

Rubbing my arm, I shake my thoughts away.

Dad opens the car for me first and I get in while mumbling a 'thank you'. Then he proceeds to do the same to my mom and she gives him a charming smile.

As dad drives away from the hospital, I place my head on the window as I watch the cars pass by.

"Dad," I speak up after a while, rubbing my arm in the process.

"Can you drop me off at Elven park, please?" I ask.

"Elven park?" Mom questions.

"Yeah, there is a friend I have to meet there."

Mom and dad give each other a look at this and I watch their exchange.

"Of course, honey." Dad smiles at me through the rearview mirror and I grin at hi.

"When will you tell us about this friend of yours?" Mom turns to her side and raises a brow at me.

"Soon," I tell them, and dad hums in response.

The rest of the car ride falls into a comfortable silence.

•••

"We're here, sweetie." I remove my head from against the window and look around.

This is it.

Unbuckling my seatbelt I pull the handle and push the door open.

Stepping out, I feel the thumping sounds of my heart reach my ears.

"Hey, sweetie, leave your bag in the car. I will put it in your room when we get home." Mom motions to the bag on the seat.

"Thanks, mom."

With a hand on the door, I wave goodbye to my parents.

"Love you," I tell them.

"Love you too, sweetie. Call us if anything happens." Dad makes a phone motion with his hand and I nod.

"I will."

With that, I shut the door and step away from the car.

I hear the sound of the car driving away, but I don't look back. My mind is too focused on the events that were about to happen.

Taking cautious steps, I walk towards the front.

•••

I couldn't do it.

Wiping my hands on the material of my school skirt, I look around in nervousness.

I'm sorry, James.

I'm so sorry.

Wiping a lonely tear away, I drop my hand to the side.

I thought I could do it, but I was wrong.

I was a coward.

I couldn't even handle the rejection of the boy I care about.

With shaky legs, I begin to walk away.

He would hate me.

But I would continue to love him.

But before I even take two steps, a hand wraps around my wrist and I'm pulled back into a strong chest.

My whole body freezes at this. I could feel the broad chest behind me as an arm snakes around my stomach.

"You weren't thinking about running away from me, were you?" A gasp leaves my lips as a pair of lips brush against my ear, causing a shiver to run down my spine.

"Hmm, princess?"

He's here.

He's actually here.

I feel my legs turn into jelly as I'm held against his warm body.

"Hmm, you're much quiet in person." He clicks his tongue. His breath fanning my skin.

But I stay frozen, unable to do anything.

"But don't worry, I know how to make those pretty lips of yours move." His lips brush over the skin of my ear.

"And all it takes is... my lips." His voice is husky as he continue to caress my ear with his lips and I close my eyes at the feeling.

However, my breath hitches at his words.

All it takes is his lips to make my own move.

Did he mean.... a kiss?

No.

He couldn't mean that.

There was no way.

We were just friends.

I feel James remove his arm from around my stomach. And I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding in.

But my relief doesn't last long as I feel him place both hands on my shoulders and in a swift movement, I'm turned around.

Before I even have time to look at his face, I look down to the floor, letting my hair conceal my face as he holds me close to him.

"Baby, look at me." He says.

But I shake my head.

A deep chuckle escapes his body and I find my heart beating even faster.

I watch as James removes a hand from the curve of my waist, while the other stays in the same place.

In less than a second, he places a finger under my chin, raising it up ever so slowly.

Until eventually, I lose myself in the boy in front of me.

"Stranger," I breathe out as I come in contact with those green orbs of his.

This is him.

The boy I have been talking for almost two months.

He's real.

"I'm here, princess. I'm finally here." His rosy lips move like a whisper, his eyes running over my face, a cryptic emotion in his eyes.

Those emerald orbs of his seemed to twinkle. And I found the sight of it to be so beautiful.

"You're real," I blurt out, my eyes not believing the sight in front of me.

He's... perfect.

James smiles endearingly.

"I am, baby." He lets go of my chin and caresses the skin of my cheek, his eyes never leaving mine. It was like a pull, I was lost in his eyes. But I didn't want to be found. From our distance, I could see the specks of gold in them. "And so are you."

"I- uh," I look away from him, embarrassed that I was staring at him. "Sorry."

But James seems to notice as he grins at me. His eyes brightening in the process. They were so alluring, just like him.

"Don't apologise, look at me to your heart's content." He smirks and I look away from his gaze while a sudden heat rushes to my face.

"No," James grips my jaw softly, holding it in his hand as he brings it to the front. "Don't hide from me anymore. I've waited far too long, so let me look at your face.

"It's beautiful, your blush." He caresses the apples of my cheeks with the back his palms. "Just like you." He stares at me.

My lips part in embarrassment and I have the sudden urge to hide, but the hand over the curve of my waist prevents me from doing so.

"You're so beautiful, Rose." He whispers. "It leaves me breathless."

Lies, Rose. They're all lies.

Remember that.

I hear the voices in my head and I close my eyes.

With a shaky breath, I call out his name.

"James," My voice is barely above a whisper when I say this, but James stops caressing my cheek and his eyes focus on me.

"I- um," I struggle to speak.

"You what?"

Yeah, Rose. You what?

They taunt me.

"Baby, you okay?" He brings his other hand over to my waist, joining the other one as he holds me close to him.

"Rose," He squeezes my sides when I don't answer.

I shake my head slightly. "Sorry, I zoned out," I mumble quietly, raising my eyes to his.

There is a worried look on his face. "But are you okay?" He stares at me.

"I am," I share a small smile at him.

But the furrow in his eyebrows told me that he didn't believe me.

It seems he decides to drop it when he reaches down for my hand, his eyes never leaving mine.

But he just happens to grab the hand that I hurt yesterday and I hiss in pain, retreating my arm to my side.

"What happened?" He looks at me alarmingly.

"Nothing," I shake my head as I hide my hand.

"Rose," his eyes turn hooded, the emerald ocean in his eyes turning dark. "What happened?" His voice turns serious.

"Just a small accident," I mumble.

"Show me, please." He holds out his hand, but I refuse to.

"Show me," his tone turns stern, and I shake my head.

"Fine," James clenches his jaw. In one second he snakes an arm around my back, bringing me flush to his chest.

And I let out a small 'oomph' in the process.

Our bodies were so close.

I could feel the warmth of his body pressed against mine.

There was no escape now.

He had me captive in his arms.

As he holds me close to his chest with one arm, the other reaches behind my back and grabs the hand that I was hiding from him.

"What is this?" He turns to look at me. His eyes blazing in anger.

We were too close, I feared that he could hear the erratic beating of my heartbeat.

"Yesterday," I start. "Before I called you on the phone, I was picking up the broken pieces of my brush, but one of them happened to pierce my skin," I explain and his eyes dart to the gauze wrapped around my hand.

James doesn't say anything and simply glares at the white gauze.

"Come," he says. And he grabs my other hand as he guides me somewhere.

We continue walking before he stops in front of a bench.

"Sit," he motions to the bench and I obey, unsure of what he was going to do.

After I take a seat, he follows after and I scoot away, but he stops me.

"Don't," he grabs my hand again and stares at it.

"Can I?" James stares at me and I nod.

With one look of reassurance, he begins to remove the gauze that was wrapped around my hand.

His movements were so gentle, almost as if he were afraid of hurting me.

As he places the gauze on his lap, his brows furrow as his eyes come in contact with the cut in my hand.

"Why didn't you tell me that you got hurt?" He glances at me.

"I didn't think it was important," I mutter.

"Princess, this is important." James raises my injured hand. "Everything that happens to you is important to me."

"You should have told me." He ends softly.

"Did it hurt?" He runs his fingers over the outlines of the cut.

Shaking my head, I reply. "Not really," I stare at him. His eyes were so focused on the cut on my hand that I had time to gaze at him.

He truly is beautiful.

Rays of sun were shining on us, casting a glow on him.

I could see the different colors of his hair. And the way his tanned skin looked golden under the sun.

Everything about him is ethereal. But this only added doubts to my mind.

He... couldn't truly care about me.

Not me.

Someone worthless like me wasn't worth someone like James.

That's just the way it was,

I'm a nobody.

Trash.

That's what I am.

The voices made sure to remind me of it.

"You're zoning out on me, baby." James grabs a hold of my face and my eyes widen at our proximity.

"Sorry," I say as he lets go of my face, clearly amused by my shocked expression.

"I bandaged your hand again while you were zoning out," he points to the hand that was indeed wrapped with the white gauze.

"Oh," My lips form into an 'o' shape and he grins.

"You're so cute," he cocks his head to the side, as his eyes run across my face.

I don't say anything and just attempt to avoid his face.

"You really are quiet." He points out.

"Are you disappointed?" I couldn't help but ask.

"No," he frowns. "I'm not, you're perfect."

Why was he saying this?

They were lies.

He's toying with you.

You don't actually believe his words, do you?

That would be foolish of you.

"I'm not perfect." I look down, feeling conscious of myself.

"You are, Rose. And I'm going to make you see that." He holds my hand and intertwines his fingers with mine.

I simply look puzzled at his actions.

What was he doing?

"There is so much I want to tell you, but it seems that I forget everything when I look at you." He stares at our hands. "Especially those pretty big eyes of yours. I go crazy for them." Something unreadable flashed through his eyes, but it's gone as soon as it came.

"Rose, I," he pauses and looks at me. "I missed you so fucking much." He says this with so much emotion that I feel my eyes cloud with sadness.

"I'm sorry, James. I'm sorry for hurting you."

"It's okay," he whispers. "You're here now."

James squeezes our intertwined hands and I stare at him.

They tell me it's a lie, but why does it feel so real?

"I'm not letting you hide from me ever again, Rose. I will always find you." he pauses and I turn to him expectantly. "Always."

•••

Parking the car, he unbuckles his seatbelt.

Turning to my side, James sighs. "You should go, princess. Your family must be waiting for you."

Stepping out of the car, I turn to him and open my mouth to speak, but his next words stop me.

"But first, there is something I have to do." I watch in confusion as he shuts the door behind him and runs to my side.

"What are you-" I frown.

"Shhh," he places a finger over my lips and I stay quiet.

Holding me by the small of my back, he pushes me close to his chest again.

My breath hitching in the process.

James leans down closely, his face only centimeters apart from mine. And if possible, he tightens his hold on my back bringing me even closer to him.

But that was all a distraction as those rosy lips of his come in contact with my cheek.

A strange feeling erupts in my heart as his lips linger on my cheek before he pulls away, leaving me completely breathless in the process.

"Hmm, would you look at that," he smirks at me. "It seems like I also have the ability to make you breathless." He sends me a wink and I look down in an attempt to hide my embarrassment.

 My cheeks were on fire.

And so was my heart.
