JAMES

"Life is hard." Alec whines and slams his book shut.

"Why?" Nico glances at him before going back to the game he is playing with Vince.

Rubbing his temple, Alec sighs. "Calculus."

"Sorry, mate. It is one of the obstacles we have to surpass in life." Vince shoots him a grin.

Watching the exchange from the couch, I feed Theo a treat as he sits on the floor.

"Good boy." I mumble to him.

Raising my head I watch as Alec narrows his eyes at Vince. "I hate you."

"No," Vince cocks his head to the side. "You don't. I'm your best friend, you love me."

"Well then, my love for you has diminished. Nico and Alec are at 100% while you went down to a 95%." Alec has a smug on his face as he smirks.

However, Nico just frowns at his choice of words.

"You were just complaining about Calculus, so why are you adding numbers to this?" He asks causing Alec's smirk to disappear.

"I don't know." Alec groans and sulks as he stands up from the chair he was sitting on. "I think AP Calculus broke me." He mumbles at the end.

What?

As Alec walks to sit on a couch beside us, Theo walks away from me and plops himself down next to his legs.

"Be happy that you don't have to go to school, Theo." Alec scratches the little puppy's head.

"You want to play after this round?" Vince raises the controller in the air and nods towards Alec's direction.

"Yeah, why not."

Leaning back against the couch, my eyes focus on the game they were playing, but my mind was somewhere else.

Thinking about her.

After our phone call from yesterday, I made sure to text her before going to bed.

It was a short conversation because I didn't want to keep her up, but I found myself feeling happy while talking to her.

She made me feel things.

Things that I have never felt for anyone else before.

And I could only guess that these feelings and emotions are part of something more.

But what?

"Hey, lover boy!" My eyes lock on the two fingers snapping in front of me.

"Yeah?" I shake my thoughts away.

"Stop thinking about your girl." Alec says as he stands in front of me.

"Not my girl." I remind him and Vince snorts as I say this.

"Right!" He chuckles.

"She isn't my girl. We're just friends."I say.

But for some reason, my words didn't sound right.

"So behaving like you're going through a breakup when she ignores you is normal because you're friends? Vince raises an eyebrow at me.

"Yes," I nod. "I care about her."

A lot.

"So you're not denying that you were behaving as if you were going through a breakup?" Nico laughs.

I open my mouth to speak, but when I struggle to form a sentence I close my mouth, making Nico laugh harder.

"But of course, Rose is just a friend." Vince shrugs and I glare at him.

"Wait a second, does Vincent here, know something that I don't?" Alec glances between Vince and me with suspicious eyes.

"I'm with you on that, mate. I know nothing." Nico pauses the game and turns to me.

"Spill." Alec narrows his eyes at me.

Rolling my eyes, I turn to Alec and Nico who were waiting for me to say something.

"Rose is Roseanne, Nathan's younger sister."

Alec's eyes grow wide immediately "Wait, seriously?"

"Oh, shit!" I hear Nico curse.

"Yeah, it's her."

"Does Nathan know?" Nico stares at me with curiosity.

"He found out first." I pat my lap for Theo to come back to me.

At the noise, he turns to me and gets up from the floor. Once he arrives at my side, I pick him up and place him on my lap.

"Wait, wait, wait," Nico puts both of his hands in front of him. "We're all missing the point, here. This is an important question, how does Nathan feel about this?"

Vince punches Nico on the arm. "That's not the important question!" He whisper-yells at him

Rubbing his arm, Nico glares at him. "Then what is?"

"Does Rose know?" Vince turns to me, ignoring the boy who is currently shooting daggers at the back of his head.

Most likely already plotting a way to get back at Vincent.

"She doesn't. And please, don't say anything if you see her. She's not ready to meet me and I don't want her to find out about me. Just for now, keep it a secret."

"We will." Nico says and the other two nod at him.

"Thanks!" I send them a smile.

"You know what's great out of all this?" Alec suddenly chimes in. "That Adrianno hasn't seen her face, yet. And we have."

"Hmm, it's actually pretty ironic considering we've been to their house." Nico chuckles.

"Awwe, Adri, you haven't seen her." Alec makes a sad face at me. "That's too bad." He laughs.

Grabbing a pillow from the couch, I throw it at him and it smacks him on the head.

It seems like they were finding humour in this.

"Yeah, yeah, whatever." I focus on Theo on my lap.

"Don't worry, you have something to look forward to." Vincent pats my back.

That I do.

As Nico and Alec bicker about a show they were watching, I place Theo on the floor and get up from the couch.

Making my way into the kitchen, I grab an apple and wash it before taking a bite out of it.

Taking another bite of my apple, my phone rings inside the pocket of my trousers.

"Nathan, hi," I answer the phone after looking at the caller ID.

"Hey, James." He says.

When I hear nothing after that, my heart starts racing in fear that something might have happened to her.

"Nathan? Is something wrong with Rose?" I immediately ask.

"Oh, no, sorry. I was just watching my dad and Rose laugh." He answers and I sigh, the turmoil in my heart withering into nothing. "She's fine. Great, actually. I'm guessing that's because of you." There's a teasing tone in his voice and I know he's referring to that day.

The day where I held Rosie in my arms.

With a knowing smile on my lips, I answer. "We talked yesterday and she apologised for ignoring me and of course, I forgave her."

Nathan hums first before speaking. "I'm glad you guys are better. But there is something I want to talk to you about tomorrow at school."

"What is it?" I frown.

"It's about Rose. There are things that I think you deserve to know.  But I would prefer to do it tomorrow. Especially since she's bonding with our parents today."

"Oh,"

"Don't worry too much, James." He laughs.

"I'll try not to."

"I talked to Ethan and Bryce, they know that Rose is the girl you have been talking to. But I told them because I didn't want them connect the dots and accidentally say something in front of Rose. So they know not to say anything. When I talked to them earlier today I actually found out that Ethan had his assumptions. It seems that you and I were a little slow in finding out."

"I can't believe I took so long to find out." I shake my head.

The pieces had been there the whole time.

I just needed to put them together.

"You're not the only one." Nathan laughs.

Glancing down at the floor, I tell him. "Thank you for telling Ethan and Bryce to not say anything. I don't want Rose to find out about me. And it's better to keep it that way for now. At least until Rose agrees to meet with me."

"No, James. It's you who I have to thank. You're the reason my sister is happier. She smiles more and it's because of you. You're helping her."

"And James?" He calls out.

"Yeah?"

"She really wants to meet you, she just needs time. Don't give up on her." Nathan says.

"I won't," I say softly.

I wasn't planning to.

Not now.

Not ever.

"I will never give up on her."

HIIIIIIIIIIIIIII!

Sorry, that was extra 😂.

Guys, my heart is in pain.

I stubbed my little toe with a piece of furniture! 🥺🥺

I felt that all the way to my soul. *sniffs sniffs*

THE PAIN. *let me just go mop around in the corner*

Before I forget, I want to tell you guys that I probably won't be updating tomorrow.

I have some ideas for my other book, Second Chances, and I want to work on them. I also need to update a new chapter, so hopefully, I can do it.

I've been neglecting Second Chances for like two weeks, my book probably hates me. 😔😔😔

Don't miss me and the book too much. 😆 (let me stop, I sound so confident in myself. And my confidence level is like 0.01%).
