JAMES

With a sigh, my brows furrow at the phone screen.

It's been three days.

Three days since I have last talked to her.

She won't answer my messages and I'm starting to get worried again.

Something must have happened for her to do this.

It's the only reason.

"Psst." I look up to my side to see Vincent looking at me.

I stare at him as he mouths something but I remain unable to decipher it.

Sending Vince a confused look, he simply holds a finger up signaling me to wait.

I watch as he grabs a piece of paper and writes something on it.

Once he is done, he folds the notebook and shows it to me.

Are you okay?

All that hassle for just two words.

With a quick glance at the professor, I nod my head reassuringly, but Vince only gives me a serious face, letting me know that he does not believe me.

I wanted to say something, but the class was silent. Every student remained focused on their work.

The only sound that could be heard was the occasional noises outside the classroom.

Grabbing my own notebook, I write my own message to him.

I will tell you later.

Vince reads the message and he nods at the end.

Sending him a quick smile I motion him to do this work.

He only shoots me a funny glare before turning his attention to the packet on his desk.

Checking my phone again, my fist clench in anger.

Still nothing.

I was starting to get anxious.

Rose usually answers by now.

Unless...

No.

I have begged her not to ignore me again.

She knows the pain it causes me when she ignores me.

As I feel my heart beat drastically against my chest, I force myself to ignore my thoughts for now.

But at the back of my mind, I couldn't help but wonder if she was ignoring me on purpose.

But why?

"I am famished, mate," Alec states as he holds his stomach. "I can literally hear my stomach growling."

Our class had ended and Alec and I were walking towards the canteen. But it seems that Alec had more of an urgency to get there than I did.

"It feels like I've been starved too long." I chuckle at his theatrics as he fakes a cry dramatically.

As we pass two girls, I hear them giggle at him.

"I'm sure you have," I respond.

"I have!" He smacks me on the back and I hiss.

I turn to him with a glare and he simply shrugs innocently.

I have a sudden urge to throw him on the floor, but I refrain from doing so.

"Look, the doors are right there. Stop complaining." I point to the double doors of the canteen that were a few feet away from us.

Stopping at the doors, Alec turns the handle and we walk inside.

Immediately, all the noises hit me at once.

"I see them." Alec nudges me and nods his head to the lads.

The two of us walk towards the table and I manage to catch sight of Ethan, a few tables away, leaning lazily on a chair as he talks to a girl who is grinning at him.

"Hey guys!" Bryce grins at us as soon as he sees us.

I send a smile his way while Alec gives him a pat.

Taking a seat, my eyes land on Nathan who seems preoccupied on his phone. His fingers slide across the screen with a thoughtful look and it seems that he is completely unaware of the world around him.

Darting away my eyes, I lean my back on the chair with crossed arms.

He's been acting strange lately.

Something seems to be bothering him.

I'm cut off from my thoughts as I Alec pulls me by the arm in a swift movement.

"Let's go get some food, I can't wait any longer." He says as he drags me away from the table.

I almost trip as he pulls me away but I manage to hold on to him.

"Calm down, Alec!" I exclaim as he drags me to the front. "The food will be there."

Alec simply walks faster as we get our food.

By the time we come back, most of the boys are engaged deeply in conversation.

Except for Nathan and Vincent.

Sitting down I immediately catch Nathan's eyes and he gives me a short smile.

I send a nod his way but I don't say anything because my phone dings inside the pocket.

Expecting to see a message from her, I pull it out immediately.

New Message From Vince

11:25 a.m.

I need to talk to you.

I feel a sudden disappointment surge through my body, but I look up to my side and see Vincent staring at his phone with a frown.

Something is wrong.

I feel it.

That feeling in my gut had appeared again.

It was the same feeling I got three days ago.

The one I got with Rose.

I bite my lip as I think about our last conversation.

What could have caused her to ignore me again?

Sliding my fingers across the screen, I type a response.

11:26 a.m.

Let's talk outside in the hallway.

Turning to Alec, I say quietly. "I need to talk to Vince alone. I'll be right back."

Alec gives me a hesitant nod as his eyes give me a look I knew all too well.

"I'm fine," I reassure him as I stand up.

With that, I take a leave from the table unaware that the guy watching me as I walked away.

Walking through the double doors, I turn around and press my back against the wall.

A minute later, Vince steps out of the double doors and I remove my back from the wall.

"Hi," He rubs his neck awkwardly and I grow worried.

"Is it something bad?" I ask.

Vince shakes his head. "No, it's about her." He mumbles quietly.

Her.

"Rose," I mumble under my breath

"What about her?" I question.

Vince takes a deep breath before looking at me.

"I heard Nathan talking to his sister earlier when you and Alec went to get food. And it was fine until I realised something." He stops but I stay silent waiting for him to continue.

"They have the same voice."

"Who?" I ask in confusion.

"Nathan's sister and Rose have the same exact voice." He states and my heart begins to race.

My Rose and Nathan's sister have the same voice.

"The moment his sister started talking, it clicked. They have the same voice, Adrianno." He walks closer to me.

"I don't know what to say." I look down at the floor in confusion.

What are the chances that the girl I care about happens to be Nathan's younger sister?

"It could be a coincidence," I look up and Vincent purses his lips, clearly not believing it.

"Perhaps," He shrugs. "But they have the same voice."

Rose was ignoring me so I had no way to ask her.

But it could be possible?

"Let's go back for now," I tell him and he stares at me. "But thank you for telling me."

It seems that he wanted to ask me more, but opted to stay quiet.

"She's not answering my texts," I mumble and he stays quiet.

Both of us walk back towards the table as everyone eats their food.

Vince quickly engages in the conversation, but I stay quiet.

My attention is completely overtaken by the phone in my hand.

Unlocking it, I click on her contact.

11:31 a.m.

Princess, I know you are ignoring me.

Just please, let me know you're safe.

I'm about to type another message, but I look up at the mention of Nathan's sister.

"Hey, Nate. How is your sister?" Ethan asks causing Nathan to freeze.

"Oh yeah! Roseanne, how is she?" Bryson joins in.

Roseanne.

"What did you just say?" I turn to Bryson.

"Huh?" He frowns in confusion.

"The name." I say.

My heart refusing to calm down as I wait for his response.

"Oh," Bryson chuckles. "Roseanne, she's Nathan's little sister."

The girl I saw when I went to his house.

The girl whose voice Vincent recognized.

The girl I had yet to meet.

That was her.

We had been so close, but our existence remained unknown.

All this time, I was talking to Nathan's sister.

My mind travels to our last phone call.

Sorry James, I was talking to Nathan, my brother.

I turn to Nathan who seems in shock.

Bu the moment our eyes made contact, I saw it.

He knew.

For how long?

Who knows.

But he knew.

"I- uh, I have to go." I stand up from my chair suddenly overwhelmed.

"But your food?" Alec points to the untouched food that laid on the plates.

I had lost my appetite. The sound of food no longer appeased.

"You can have it." Is all I say before I walk away from the table.

He knew.

And so did I.
