One year Later

Marie-Anne's POV

"Ben, stop running around the house!" I yell when Ben runs away from me when he is supposed to be eating. Never wish for your kid to start walking, next thing you'll know they won't stop running around the house. I push the rest of his food to the side so I can focus on eating my food. The doorbell rings and I sigh getting up. Ben who was standing by the corner starts running once he sees me get up, "Ben, don't let me catch you!" I yell to him.

I open the door and Dylan shows up, I can't believe it's already been a year since we decided to try in work things out. It hasn't been easy, we are both very stubborn, but we are taking it one step at a time. "Daddyyyyy!" Ben yells running to Dylan. Dylan squats on the floor giving Ben a hug, he then passes his hands through his dark curls.

"Now, what did I say about making your mom yell?" Dylan asks him.

"Making mommy yell is bad and that's what bad boys do; I'm a good boy," he repeats the sentence Dylan has taught him to say. Dylan nods his head giving him a look, "sorry mommy," he says coming and giving me a hug.

I chuckle at how Dylan can just make him do what he wants with only one look. It might help in certain situations, but I still think it's a mean way to treat a kid that isn't even two years old yet. Dylan gets up from the floor and Ben runs off to somewhere. "Who does he listen to?" Dylan asks sarcastically. We argued about this for a while, I know Ben listens to him better than me.

"You just scare him," I tell him honestly.

"Someone has to," he replies. That's true, I would never be able to do what Dylan does. I'm just the cool parent, Dylan is the mean one. I roll my eyes at him shaking my head. I grab his shirt pulling him towards me, I then tippy toe kissing him. "Someone missed me," he utters pulling away.

"Shut up Dylan," I say rolling my eyes once more. I did miss him, I haven't seen him for two days. He's been busy with work, but I would rather die than let him know that. Dylan laughs slamming his lips into mine once more.

Dylan pushes me causing my body to hit the wall, I put my hands behind his neck pulling his body closer to me. I close my eyes enjoying the pleasuring moment. I don't hear Ben which means he is doing something he isn't supposed to be doing. I try to forget about it, "I have to show you something," Dylan says pulling away slightly.

"You can show me later," I reply, locking our lips together again.

"I have to now," he says. I sigh and nod my head.

"What is it?" I ask him. He takes my hand pulling me to the door. "Dylan, Ben's in there alone," I tell him. I don't trust him alone for one second.

"We're not going anywhere," he says.

"K," he opens the door and we stand on the porch staring at the cars in the small parking lot. "You brought me to see your car?" I ask him. "You washed it," I say. His car has been dirty for the longest and he is so busy that he doesn't find time to bring the car to the carwash.

"Yeah, I did," he replies. "But that's not what I want you to see," he says. I look around the car, well there's nothing different. It was getting dark so I guess my eyes aren't working properly. Dylan stands by me waiting for me to find what he wants me to see, I sigh getting impatient. Why can't he just show me what he wants to show me? "I wanted you to see this," Dylan says moving my head to look up.

My eyes land on the digital billboard that is across my place, it has been there for the longest. It's really annoying if you ask me, but there is still nothing there except the picture saying 'Need Medicare?' I stare at the billboard and the images start changing, it changes to a heart and the lyrics to John Legend's all of me song starts rolling up. 'What would I do without your smart mouth?' it starts.

'Drawing me in, and you kicking me out

You've got my head spinning, no kidding, I can't pin you down

What's going on in that beautiful mind

I'm on your magical mystery ride

And I'm so dizzy, don't know what hit me, but I'll be alright'

I love that song, how did he know they would play it? I turn to him, he smiles. I turn back to see the lyrics of the rest of the song play.

'Cause all of me

Loves all of you

Love your curves and all your edges

All your perfect imperfections

Give your all to me

I'll give my all to you

You're my end and my beginning

Even when I lose I'm winning

'Cause I give you all of me

And you give me all of you, oh-oh'

The song ends, the door opens and Ben comes outside. I turn giving him a frown. "It's mommy," Ben says pointing his little index finger to the billboard. I move my body back to see what he is talking about, the billboard has a picture of me on it.

The picture goes away, a white screen comes with the words 'Marry me' written on it in bold letters. I stare at the words, Dylan was standing behind me, I feel his body move. When I turn he is on one knee, he holds a little black box, a ring inside it.

"Marie-Anne, I never thought my eighteen-year-old self would meet the woman I love, the mother of my child, the other piece of my heart in my college English class. That's when the journey began, we passed the roads of heartbreak, pain, and especially love. I wouldn't trade any of these routes for an easier one."

"I'm not going to say you'll make me the happiest man alive if you marry me because you already made me the happiest man alive. Marry me because I want to wake up next to your crazy self every morning, because I want to be able to call you my wife, my partner."

"Would you do me the honor and marry me?" He asks staring into my eye. I just stare at him on the floor lost at words. He asked me to marry him, I sigh trying to say something, but the words are unable to come out. "So?" Dylan asks growing impatient on the floor. I nod my head, tears falling down my cheeks.

He grabs my left hand sliding the ring in my ring finger. He gets up engulfing me in a hug. "I love you," he whispers into my ears.

"I love you too," I whisper back, Ben pushes his way in the middle. We both squat hugging him. "And I love you," I say kissing his warm cheeks.

Dylan smiles, I get up the floor looking down at Dylan whispering something to Ben. I smile down at the two pieces of my heart.
