Sun Baohai didn't know that the news of Jinhai's remarriage to him caused so much heartache. The next day he woke up and prepared the kids to go to town and have a check-up at Baode hall. He wasn't a doctor, and though he knew a few herbs it wasn't life-saving. In a time when even a cold could kill you, he was very cautious. So today all the kids including, him and Yingtai planned to go to town, plus he also needed to do some shopping.
So he woke up extra early and made breakfast. Today's breakfast was simple, it consisted of youtiao and soy milk. The kids ate happily before thanking their mom for the delicious meal.
"Qiqi and Xixi go get ready while I help Xiao Wan and Yuyu. When you're done come to my room to get your hair done okay?" Sun Bohai gently instructed as he picked up the now eight months Xiao Yu.
"Yes, Mommy!" Qiqi and Xiao Xi responded obediently, as they ran to the backyard.
"Okay, what does Wan'er want to wear today," Sun Baohai asked gently. They were not rich or that well off, but the system had given them clothes, and he also had bought some, so the kids had about five pairs of garments each.
"I wonna match Mommy!" Xiao Wan responded enthusiastically, causing Sun Baohai to laugh.
"Okay then, let's wear the white and blue hanfu, go ask your sisters if they want to match too," Sun Baohai responded warmly as he dropped a kiss on Xiao Wan's forehead. Though Xiao Wan. was shy, he no longer blushed profusely since his mom hugged him often.
"Bagah! Gah!" Xiao Yu suddenly blabbered an apparent protest to his mom and brother for leaving him out.
"Here's a kiss for Yuyu too," Sun Baohai chucked as he kissed Xiao Yu's face causing him to giggle.
"Mommy, big sisters said they wonna wear their pink dresses instead," Xiao Wan reported as he ran back.
"Okay, then let's get ready," Sun Baohai responded.
Xiao Yu was now eight months old, and maybe it was because he ate food from the system he was more developed than most kids his age. He already has eight baby teeth and also seems to observe and understand his surroundings more than other babies. Plus he was a very good-looking baby with bright eyes and dimples, in the village he was well-loved and was loved even more by Sun Baohai. Though Qiqi and Xiao Xi warmed up to him, they still somewhat guarded against him, but Xiao Yu and Xiao Wan loved him wholeheartedly so even if he did not want to admit it, their bond was deeper, but he was still trying with the twins.
After getting Xiao Wan and Xiao Yu ready and doing the twins' hair, the family of eight made their way to town. Sun Baohai didn't know the way so he had let Yingtai guide them. Maybe it was because they were a big group but the family of eight attracted a lot of attention. Yingtai and Sun Baohai were a little uncomfortable by the people openly gawking at them so they took another carriage to take them to Baode hall.
It took about twenty-five minutes for the family to arrive. Sun Baohai rushed in in order to avoid attention. He was very self-aware, but he and Yingtai were quite attractive, especially Yingtai which was one of the reasons Old Widower Wang never let her out. Having such beauty required protection, and his household was just barely stable, so staying on the low was the best thing to do for now.
Baode Hall wasn't very crowded when they got there so they were immediately seen by a physician.
"Who is getting checked?" The physician asked, as he prepared.
"Everybody. Here check the baby first," Sun Baohai responded.
"Ok, put him down on the table," The physician instructed.
"Yes," Sun Baohai complied as he gently but the baby on the table.
"How old?" The physician asked as he checked the baby.
"Eight months," Sun Baohai responded to him, visibly shocking the physician.
"The physique of this child is plump, with ample weight and stature. His pulse is steady and harmonious, indicating a smooth flow of qi and blood. Overall your son is very well taken care of, continue like this." The physician praised.
"Thank you, sir, ok Yanyan you go next," Sun Baohai responded as he instructed.
"The physique of this child is slender and frail, and exhibits a slight lack of weight, yet his pulse remains steady and uniform, suggesting a moderate flow of qi and blood. However, signs of anemia are also present. For treatment, a combination of Ginseng, Astragalus Root, Goji Berries, and Red Dates is recommended. Administered as a decoction twice daily for three months. Additionally, ensure a diet rich in iron and protein to support recovery." The doctor explained.
Then it was Qiqi and Xiao Xi's turn. "The physique of these two young girls appears emaciated, with weak and deficient qi. Their pulses are faint and irregular, indicating poor circulation of qi and blood. Furthermore, they exhibit signs of weak stomachs, with poor appetite and digestive function. For treatment, a combination of Angelica, Astragalus Root, Goji Berries, and White Atractylodes, supplemented with hawthorn and pomegranate for stomach health, is recommended. Administered as a decoction twice daily for three months. Additionally, ensure a diet rich in easily digestible, nutrient-dense foods to promote the health of qi and blood."
Sun Baohai was amazed, he had truly underestimated the ancient people so much. The doctor could find out so much from his short check-up with no tools. As he marveled at the doctor's skills, the doctor was already finished with the twins, Wanyuan and Yingtai.
According to the doctor's diagnosis, the twins and Wanyuan were fine, just a little malnourished, Yingtai needed some rest and mostly ointments for her bruises, while her newborn daughter was fine. After listening to the kid's diagnosis, Sun Baohai went to the pharmacy and got the required herbs and medicine prescribed.
As Sun Baohai guided the children through the bustling streets of the town, he couldn't help but notice their wide-eyed wonder at the sights and sounds around them. The twins' excitement was palpable as they took in the well-dressed people and the enticing aroma of street food wafting through the air.
However, amidst their joy, Sun Baohai observed a subtle shift in their demeanor. The twins' expressions darkened momentarily, their gaze dropping to the ground. It was as if a shadow had passed over their faces, clouding their newfound sense of wonder.
Sun Baohai felt a pang of empathy as he watched them, realizing the weight of their past experiences. He understood all too well the pain of abandonment, the lingering scars that never truly healed. But to see it reflected in the innocent faces of these children struck a chord deep within him.
When he noticed their gaze lingering on a well-dressed woman passing by, Sun Baohai's heart ached with understanding. He knew immediately who they were thinking of—their biological mother, the woman who had left them behind.
"Qiqi, Xiao Xi, do you want something to eat?" Sun Baohai asked gently, his voice filled with doting.
Snapping out of their trance the twins wanted to refute but Xiao Yan was one step ahead of them, "Yes Mommy, want Tanghulu!" He shouted cheerfully his little eyes filled with want.
"You greedy little goblin," Sun Baohai teased as he pinched his nose gently, "Okay Yanyan wants Tanghulu what about my two precious daughters?" Tang Shushui continued, his tone gentle as he questioned, it was so indulging that Qiqi and Xiao Xi couldn't help feel their eyes reddened.
The twins couldn't remember the last time they felt so cared for. Their mother had always been strict and critical, making them feel small and unimportant. But Sun Baohai was different. His gentle words and warm tone made them feel valued and loved. It was as if he was treating them like precious treasures, something they hadn't experienced in a long time.
As if possessed, Qiqi approached Sun Baohai and, for the first time, clingily held on to him. Her small hands grasped the fabric of his clothes, and she looked up at him with wide, earnest eyes.
"Mommy, I also want Tanghulu," she spoke quietly, her sticky voice filled with a longing that tugged at Sun Baohai's heart.
Not wanting to be left behind, Xiaoxi also approached him, her movements mirroring her sister's. "Mommy, want Tanghulu too," she echoed, her voice just as sticky and endearing.
Sun Baohai was shocked. The twins had shown some affection for him before, but they were always cautious and perfunctory. This time, however, the way they approached him was genuine, with no trace of caution. It was as if they were truly treating him like their mother.
A wave of emotion washed over him, and he struggled to keep his composure. "Okay, let's go get some Tanghulu," Sun Baohai agreed, his voice trembling slightly as he tried to hide his tears.
{Qiqi's and Xiao Xi's favorability has risen by 35%, keep up the hard work host!}
Sun Baohai was stunned for a moment, looking at the twins with wide eyes. His heart swelled with emotion as he took in their hopeful expressions. The realization that the twins were genuinely reaching out to him, treating him with the same affection they reserved for their mother, filled him with a profound sense of joy and gratitude. His eyes softened, glistening with unshed tears. No matter how cautious they had been, they were just kids after all. Because of his comfort today, they had taken such a leap in favorability, and he was deeply moved by their trust and affection.
The family eagerly ventured into town, their spirits soaring. Everywhere they turned, the streets buzzed with activity—vendors hawking their goods, tempting scents wafting through the air from food stalls. They strolled through lively markets, admiring bright displays of trinkets and savoring unfamiliar delicacies. The twins' laughter rang out joyfully, spreading cheer through the bustling streets. This was the first time they had some much fun.
As the sun dipped low, casting a golden glow over the town, the family headed home, feeling happy and satisfied. Sun Baohai walked with the twins, their small hands in his. Their eyes were heavy with sleep, but their hearts were still light with joy from the day.
Back home, the twins stayed close to him, their affection strong. They talked excitedly about their favorite parts of the day, their voices happy. Sun Baohai listened with a smile, his heart full of love and gratitude. Each word they spoke, each laugh they shared, showed the bond they had built that day.
As he tucked them into bed, Qiqi and Xiaoxi held onto his hands, their eyes heavy with sleep but still smiling. "Goodnight, Mommy," they whispered together, their voices soft and full of love.
Sun Baohai kissed their foreheads gently. "Goodnight, my precious ones," he whispered back, his voice thick with emotion. He watched them drift off to sleep, their faces peaceful.
Sun Baohai thought about the day. It had been perfect, full of laughter and connection. The twins' spontaneous affection had been the highlight, and he knew this was just the start of a beautiful journey. He felt excited about the future, knowing he finally had a place where he belonged.
Looking around their modest home, he felt a warmth and security he hadn't felt in years. The joy of the day lingered in the air, a reminder of their love. Sun Baohai knew challenges would come, but with his family by his side, he felt ready to face anything.
As he lay down to sleep, his heart was full. He finally had a family who loved and needed him. The future looked bright and promising, and he was eager to embrace it. The love and trust the twins had shown him today was a precious gift, and he vowed to cherish it always. In that moment, he knew they could truly be a happy a family, bound by a deep and unbreakable love.
