After he took care of everything, he then took a cart and made his way home. He went to his house to put his stuff down and get the kids from Aunt Lin's house but he noticed a commotion near his house so he sped up. When he got there he saw a chubby old woman yelling at a kneeling severely underweight young woman, who had a very small baby in her hands, and another malnourished boy standing in front of her. He was confused did he know this lady?

"You might not know her, but this is Jinhai's twin sister. She had been married to Widower Wang for a long time and had suffered countless abuse from his family, especially his mother, and eldest son. She had just given birth to a daughter, and Old Lady Wang tried to drown the newborn, leaving her with no choice but to come see you." Aunt Lin explained seeing the perplexed look on his face.

The words spoken to him shocked him. They really tried to drown a little baby?  Just how cold-hearted was the Wang family? This was Jinhai's only real family left in this world, he couldn't let her suffer, plus he himself felt bad for her, it's not like he didn't have enough to feed them too, he would just have to budget a little more.

{No human should be this cold-hearted! Save your sister-in-law, and put the Wang family in their place!

"Why is there a commotion in front of my house?" Sun Baohai asked as he stood in front of his house, opposite Old Lady Wang, his face filled with displeasure. Old Lady Wang was a little taken aback by the questioning of the young ger but soon she regained her senses.

"Is it you who entices this useless daughter-in-law to run away and divorce? Did you really think it was going to work?" Old Lady Wang ridiculed.

"My sister-in-law has not run away but planned to divorce her husband. Since your family has tried to kill her newborn how could her heart be at ease sleeping next to coldblooded creatures like the Wang family?" Sun Baohai responded coldly, directly tearing the face of Old Lady Wang. In the village only some people knew that she had tried to drown the newborn, so hearing Sun Baohai say it shocked some people. When Old Lady Wang saw this she went into rage.

"You want to divorce? Then divorce! Just remember that we will have the custody of the kids! You are poor so how could you raise two more kids!" Old Lady Wang shouted furiously as the weak figure on the floor grew more pale.

"You have custody? I don't think so. My sister-in-law may not be able to provide but she will live with me, and I definitely can provide for the kids. Plus our environment is more stable for the kids. There will be no abuse or killing. Not only have you abused your daughter-in-law, but you also tried to kill your granddaughter, and there were many witnesses. Who do you think the court will give the kids to?" Sun Baohai responded leisurely.

The current emperor could be said to be the best emperor of this century, he was fairly young and had barely been on the throne for ten years but his way of thinking was very beneficial to the empire. He had let women and ger enter the workforce, even if there were some restrictions it was still a very big step, and the empire's revenue tripled because of that. He had banned child trafficking and is currently trying to ban slave trading. He also banned child killing, a practice that was very common in this dynasty, where people would give birth instead of taking contraceptives, and would then cruelly kill the child, either by drowning them, strangling them, or even burning them. The village may be far from the capital but they knew the law, yet Old Lady Wang directly went against the law, wasn't that her trying to lose her head?

"You! Since you want to be so tough, I will see you in court!" Old Lady Wang humphed before turning around in anger. Sun Baohai smiled, this is exactly what he wanted. He didn't mention the law because he wanted Old Lady Wang to take him to court, not only would the divorce be cleaner, but he would also avenge his sister-in-law.

The current town magistrate was the favored disciple of He Jin, the chancellor, and was a very upright man who followed rules to the letter and would never disobey the law. The emperor realized that many women were against marriage because it was more of a disadvantage to them, while the men reaped all the benefits. Even in ending the marriage the men still had many benefits. He realized he couldn't change the benefits the men had but he could add to the women's benefits.

The men had seven outs, not obedient to in-laws, childless, adultery, jealousy, disease, gossiping, and theft, while the wife only had three outs, gambling addiction, unable to make a child, or amicable divorce. So he added four more outs, which were abuse, the inability to provide, the inability to care, and the lack of respect. Right now Widower Wang violated three of the seven outs and could be divorced, and even fined and jailed because child killing was against the law. So he would only wait to be called to court.

"Sister-in-law please come in," Sun Baohai said, seeing the people starting to disperse.

"I'm so sorry for the inconvenience I caused!" The woman on the floor apologized as he bowed deeply.

"Sister-in-law let's go inside first," Sun Baohai advised before helping her up. He took the newborn from her since she looked so exhausted.

When the mother and son got inside they were a little taken aback by the clean and well-decorated house, on the dining table there was osmanthus cake, some candied fruits, and other sweets showing that this was not a rarity in this house.

"Kids say hello to your auntie," Sun Baohai said when he entered the house.

"Hello, Mommy! Hello Auntie!" The kids said as they ran out of the room and hugged the legs of Sun Baohai. They had been a little scared by the commotion outside.

"I'll go and cook something, introduce yourself to your auntie and cousin, then show them where to wash up," Sun Baohai said before putting the newborn in one of the baby baskets.

"Yes, mommy!" The kids said.

The summer had been a little too hot lately so he bought ingredients to make Cheng tng for the kids. Plus, he had completed half of the side mission and was rewarded with five jin of pork and planned to make a hearty dinner for the family.

By the time everybody washed up, Tang Shushui had already finished making the Cheng tng. When he came out with the Cheng tng, his sister-in-law, Zhang Yingtai was breastfeeding the newborn as the kids played with her older son. After she showered and got rid of the dirt and grime, and wore new clothes, Sun Baohai could take his time admiring her beauty.

She had hazel eyes that were like iridescent pools of sadness, holding stories untold. Her silky hair,  as dark as the ink of a calligrapher's brush, cascaded like a waterfall down her back, each strand a brushstroke of perfection. Her skin was like fine porcelain, smooth and unblemished as if the moon itself bestowed upon her its luminosity. Rosebud lips, as delicate as cherry blossoms in spring, closed tightly as if they had thousands of stories to tell yet didn't know when to start. She was like a living poem, each line and curve verse of beauty, a masterpiece painted by the hands of nature itself. Sun Baohai only had one thought, 'This sister-in-law of his was truly an ethereal beauty.'

"Kids set up the table and come have a snack," Sun Baohai instructed. In this era, villagers only had two meals a day. Sun Baohai wasn't really rich, and all the food they ate was very filling, so he had to cut down on some of their expenses. Sometimes he made lunch but when the income decreased they would have snacks to fill them up. So he had bought snacks, and bread in big amounts so they could eat that. So today they would drink the Cheng tng and wait for him to finish cooking dinner.

The kids were used to this and hurriedly set the table. Zhang Yingtai's older son, Wang Yuanjun, was a little surprised. They were even more shocked when they saw the Cheng tng. They of course knew what it was but they never thought that they would one day even have the chance to look at it so closely.

The Wang family could be considered well of, Widower's father Old Man Wang was a hardworking man who worked very efficiently, as a result, amassed a lot of lands. He rents these lands to the lower-earning people in town, which brings him quite a bit of revenue. He had a fulfilling career but his family life was very different. For years he tried with his wife yet could not have a child, it was then revealed that he had a problem, and his chances of having children were slim.

He delved into despair and wanted to give up, but Old Lady Wang refused and kept trying, and she really did fall pregnant but suffered multiple miscarriages before she successfully conceived Widower Wang. Widower Wang was considered a miracle child and was spoiled greatly, so when his little sister Wang Lin was conceived she was even more spoiled. So things like Cheng tng were given to Old Widower Wang and Wang Like they were rice. If they enjoyed it, then naturally their kids would also, but Wang Yuanjun was an exception.

Old Widower Wang was actually in love with his first wife, but she died during childbirth. So the son he had with her naturally received all of his love. Old Madame Wang had also adored her daughter-in-law at the time and was also saddened by her departure, so she raised her grandson like he was her own. With them already having such a beloved grandson, how could there be enough space for Yuanjun in their hearts? So he was abused like his mom. So when Yuanjun saw the Cheng tng in front of him his eyes reddened as he remembered the bad memories.

"Sister-in-law, Yuanjun what are you doing in a daze? Hurry up and eat," Sun Baohai ushered.

"Thank you truly, sister-in-law!" Zhang Yingtai said as she bowed with tears in her eyes.

"Hai, just eat for now, we can talk later," Sun Baohai comforted.

The mother and son sat at the table and started eating. After everybody took their first spoonful, they couldn't help but stop a bit. The pandan's sweet, floral notes create a harmonious melody, while the barley and longan provide a chewy, fruity counterpoint. The broth's gentle sweetness was like a soothing lullaby, and the agar agar added a touch of intrigue. Inside their mouths, it was a symphony of textures and flavors, a sweet and refreshing escape that left them yearning for more.

After drinking a bowl of Cheng tng everybody cooled down and felt much more energetic. The kids couldn't help but ask Sun Baohai to make more for them tomorrow, to which he could only agree. He then made his way to the kitchen to cook and left his sister-in-law to watch the kids.
