ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย ย  The idea of Cassian leaving and being the hero disgusted you. Cassian always played hero and never took time for himself. You constantly played a solo game of tug-of-war with yourself. However, you always understood why the love of your life wished to fight for the Rebellion, and hell, you were apart of this suicide pact as well. But, this Death Star mission was plain idiotic,

"Cass, please," you pleaded, grasping his arm in your own, "Don't do this." Nibbling your lip nervously, you pondered how you could keep him from going. The two of you had brought up the idea of running away. Naboo, or Tatooineโ€” somewhere the Rebellion or the Empire would be out of mind, and you could just live amongst each other.

Looking up at his gorgeously-defined face, you gulped, but continued, "It's not too late to create our future."

"We won't have a future if we can't steal these plans, (Y/N)," he whispered, obviously wanting more than anything to just run off and be with you, but that's not how Cassian worked. He always cared about others over his own interests, and it annoyed the living hell out of you.

You both knew he wouldn't realistically make it off of Scarif. A planet inhabited by the Empire's best, guarding the most useful information known to the Emperor. You couldn't pinpoint what made this new girlโ€” Jyn Erso, so different from the rest. She was impressive enough to lead your boyfriend into a fiery doom. She must be something then,

ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  "We don't need Jyn," you choked out, making it evident to the older male that you were struggling to hold back tears, "She's leading the Rebellion into a death trap. We did fine before without her."

ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  The male cupped your cheek in his hand, causing tears to spill, "You and I both know the risks and sacrifices that tie into being in the Rebellion. No matter what happens, I love you unconditionally, and that'll never cease."

ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  "You're so stupid, you know," you stifled back your hot steaming tears, a smile forming at your lips, "Come back to me, okay?"

ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย ย  Pressing his chapped lips against yours, Cassian and you broke away from each other. The older man headed towards a ship lined with volunteers, eager to give the Empire a thrashing. You could see Jyn, and unexplainable anger rose from within you. You knew how this stranger felt about Cassian. Hell, sometimes you felt as if he complimented those feelings right back.

ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย ย  As Cassian boarded the ship, followed by Jyn and the others, you felt as if a piece of your heart left with them. Regardless of your feelings towards the stranger, everyone in this Rebellion is a part of something bigger than themselves. As much as it tore you up inside to admit this. If you were in Cass' shoes, you would've left too,

"Are you alright, Ms (L/N)?" a voice asked, ripping you from your melancholy thoughts.

Spinning around, you locked eyes with Mon Mothma. The engines of the ship firing up from behind you caused you to flinch. Senator Mothma's arm flew up and landed on your shoulder, immediately calming you down, "It's Andor isn't it?" she asked, pulling you into her side while walking away from the platform.

ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  "Yes, ma'am," you whispered, still picturing the brunette in your mind as if he was still in front of you, "I just have this terrible feeling. I don't think any of them will make it off of Scarif."

ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย ย  The Senator bit her lip in thought. She was obviously pondering ways to make you feel better, but that point alone made you feel worst,

ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย ย  "No matter what happens, this will spark the Rebellion's growth. Your boyfriend has made a noble sacrifice," she concluded, squeezing your shoulder lovingly.

ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย ย  "I know that should make me feel better, but it's hard," you coughed out, shrugging from her grip, "I know you mean well, but I just need some time to myself."

ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย ย  The senator nodded in understanding; waltzing away, as if untouched by the circumstances. Shaking your head, you immediately fled the humid outdoors of Yavin 4, and headed into the small encampment Cassian and you shared.

ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย ย  It was a small hole in the tan rock. Vines flowed elegantly from all sides, causing your room to almost be hidden from the rest of the world. Stepping inside, you broke down.

ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  Flopping down on the sleeping bag that the Captain and yourself once shared, all the negative feelings and thoughts just came silently pouring from your eyes from the bucket-load. It felt as if a Bantha had been placed on your chest and was suffocating you.

ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย ย  Throughout that whole ordeal, you began to get drowsy. It was evident how worn out you've become since Cass' mission announcement. You somehow managed to fall asleep; tears still silently streaming from your cheeks.

โ˜พโ˜พโ˜พโ˜พโ˜พโ˜พโ˜พโ˜พโ˜พโ˜พโ˜พโ˜พ

ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย ย  Dreams always confused you. Linking themselves to your present, future, and past all at once, yet they weren't real. They couldn't be, right? You were motionless, yet you could see everything. Every beginning, every end. Cassian...

ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  Scarif was engulfed by a fire ball. No, that was truly an understatement. Unknown power to anyone before now. Jyn and Cassian were latched in a final embrace before death entangled them both. You wanted more than anything to rip out of this trance and run to him, yet you seemed paralyzed.

The body of the love of your life disintegrated before your very eyes. Despite your evident paralysis, you managed to let out a curdled scream, wracking your whole body violently. Everything went cold. Even while witnessing the scalding fire, you felt no heat.

A blinding white light cuts off the view you feared most. An elegant Convor, one bearing beautiful green hues and light white feathers landed softly on the ground, cooing sympathetically,

"That's only one future. Out of millions of possibilities, that one will happen," the bird hooted, but weirdly enough, the Convor itself wasn't talking. You heard it through your mind, "There's a way to shift Rogue One's fate."

Gulping, you slowly shook yourself from your paralysis, eyeing the bird suspiciously, "Who are you?"

"I go by many names," she hooted, still sitting in the same spot as before, "The beginning. The end. The force. The Daughter or Sister. Morai."

"Morai. How can I save Cassian?" you questioned, your voice cracking at the mention of his name.

The little bird waddled close to you; staring into your eyes. You fell immediately into a trance. The bird was looking into your very soul itself,

ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  "Your intentions are pure, as pure as one's soul can be when entangled in war," she commented, obviously not a fan of your desperate battles, "I can grant you a single wish, but there are rules," she hooted; the command wracking your brain every which way, "If it is truly your wish to save Rogue One, I give you a max of three people. But, don't be selfish. Save those you know need saving, not those you're biased to save. Be selfish, and you will truly regret it."

ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  You didn't reply. You knew immediately Cassian was your first rescue if this at all was true. It was idiotic to believe a bird could grant wishes, yet you would grasp to anything as long as you could save your love.

ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  You pondered the next two. Chirrut รŽmwe was another clear choice, and maybe this bird would find favor in this decision because the old monk was gifted in force wielding. You couldn't forgive yourself if you left the old fool to die on Scarif.

ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย ย  The last name who struck your mind was the crooked pilot, Bodhi Rook. He always played innocent, but Cassian acted as if he knew more about this pilot, and you were dying to know more. He also had a clear sign of friendship about him, and that always brightened your day.

ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  "Very unfortunate indeed," the bird hooted as you blacked out of the trance, "I was expecting Jyn Erso. She was the only way to truly save the Rebellion."

โ˜พโ˜พโ˜พโ˜พโ˜พโ˜พโ˜พโ˜พโ˜พโ˜พโ˜พโ˜พ

ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย ย  You woke up immediately after that. Eyes crusted closed and heart beating quickly, you rose from the sleeping bag and forced your eyes open. You could hear a commotion outside. Words were scrambled, but all you could pick up on were, 'impossible,' and 'Rogue One.'

ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  Tiredly waddling outside of the tomb-like room, the words of the Convor left you. All you wanted to do now was receive ease from Mon Mothma. She seemed to be the only one to calm you down when your reckless boyfriend went on missions like this.

ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  Stepping back into the humid sunlight, your eyes widened at the sight. Chirrut, Bodhi and Cassian were collapsed on the ground, gasping for air. Chirrut's face was singed with a flaming red scar, Bodhi's shirt was ripped in two; an enormous gash falling from his shoulder to his waist, and Cassian had hot blood dripping from his previously brown eyes. Crying out, you immediately took off and ran towards the man who owned your heart.

ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  Falling to your knees, you scooped the poor man's head into your lap; stroking his sweaty hair. Cassian was obviously dazed and didn't know where he was. He was gripping your tan jacket to the point where his knuckles were pale.

ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย ย  Kissing his forehead, the man immediately calmed down, relaxing his grip on your jacket, and letting his hands fall back down to his chest, "(Y/N)? Is that you?" he croaked, his voice cracking from dehydration and tiredness, "Where's Jyn?"

ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  "Only you, Chirrut and Bodhi made it back," you replied, stroking his sweaty hair from his face, "It's a miracle."

ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  His face shrewd up as his eyes snapped open. His eyes were bloodshot and burning, "It just doesn't make sense. I watched the fire. I felt the flames on my skin. I could feel death. Why am I here?"

ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย ย  "I had a weird dream after you left. This Convor came to me and I wished to save you and the others," you admit, pushing another thankful kiss to his forehead, but he shoved you off.

ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  "Why did you save me over the others?" he snapped, obviously not thinking rationally about the situation, "Jyn had the Death Star plans! She was the only way we could've saved this sorry excuse for a Rebellion!"

ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  Your jaw dropped. You definitely weren't expecting this reunion. Sure this is a setback, but that doesn't mean the Rebellion is over! And besides, at least the two of you were together again,

ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย ย  "Did you absorb radiation on Scarif?" you snapped, the others slowly leaving the area at the sight of your conflict with the older male, "Be grateful that I saved you! I couldn't have lived with myself if I chose anyone else over you!"

ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย ย  "You should've been thinking about the betterment of the galaxy, not your relationships," he snapped back, slowly raising to his feet, "You might as well have left me to dieโ€” you've now just prolonged the inevitable."

ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  This infuriated you. Cassian had no right treating you this way. You understood why he was upset, hell, you would've been upset too if you were in his shoes, but you're still his lover and he needs to respect your decisions, especially when you made them despite the consequences,

ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  "I did it because I love you, Cass," you whispered, grabbing his hand, "I know you're upset, but this has given us another chance to run away together. You're supposed to be dead, so your influence on the Rebellion won't change if we leave. This is the perfect opportunity to start the family we've always wanted."

ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย ย  His face softened. His thumb rubbed soft and caring circles on your skin, causing goosebumps to appear down your back, "That sounds nice, doesn't it?"

ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  "It really does, my love," you replied, leaning your head on his shoulder, taking in his familiar scent, "We could do it."

ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย ย  Cassian presses his lips onto yours but shakes his head, "I made a promise to Jyn. I will get those Death Star plans, even if it kills me," he smirks softly, "For a second time."

ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  "Until then?" you asked, cradling the man in your arms.

ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  "I must come to terms with the life I'm living," he replied, his face blank, "I must make those who have been lost proud. I must make their sacrifices not be in vein, and prove your jealousy with Jyn was wrongly placed."

ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย ย  Your jaw dropped again but you didn't reply, "I know that's why you chose Bodhi over her," he replied, "You hated her. But I won't hold that against you."

ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  The next silence was painfully long, but you knew he was right. You had a mission too. Prove Morai wrong. Prove that you made the right decision, and prove to her that you can run a Rebellion just on hope. No one individual can turn the tide in war. Jyn will never be that defining point.
