Part 6! The Attack

He/Him

2nd POV
♡︎♡︎♡︎♡︎♡︎

You sat silently, staring at the empty room in front of you. This was Joseph's nursery, at least for the past few moons. It had been a peaceful while once the Millennium Falcon had escaped Hoth and gotten away from the beady eyes of the Empire. All was good.
Only thing making you feel upset rather than happy was the fact that Joseph and Elpída were beginning to grow up.

Joseph had outgrown his nursery and was in Elpída's old room, while she had moved to a new room altogether beside Nephal and your room. He was three now, and Elpída was ten, almost eleven. It was weird to see her gaining habits that kids in the double digits gain, but that was all part of life. Even though it made you a little bit sad,
"Daddy!" the voice of Elpída cracked through the silence, "Clive wants to know if you'd like to join our hunt! We've run out of Rancor meat, and we need to get some more."

That's right. Rancor meat.
Whenever Captain Solo, Leia, Nephal, Joseph, Elpída and yourself escaped Hoth alongside your Droids, you fled to Felucia. You figured the abundance of plants and animals would be able to fuel your little family, and the risk that Felucia brought would keep the Empire away. It happened exactly how you assumed it would,

"Yeah, I'll come," you answered while scooping up your sniper blaster. It was smarter to shoot a Rancor from a great distance in case the first shot didn't do the job. So, the sniper was the weapon you chose, "Are you sure you're ready for such a fight?"

Elpída shot up into a very straight posture at this comment, "Dad, I am very capable. I know how dangerous Rancor can be, but I am ready. Even Clive and Flash think so."

You cocked your eyebrows and shook your head, "Have you spoken to your mother about this?"

"You know she doesn't approve of us killing for any reason, even food," your daughter responded while crossing her arms over her chest, "Of course she wouldn't like me doing it."

You ruffled Elpída's hair lovingly, "That's one thing your mother and I will agree on... but, you're growing up. You need to know how to kill, especially for food in case anything happens to your mother or I. You have to be able to protect Joseph and yourself."

The blonde girl's eyes widened in excitement, "Really? So I can come?"

"Yeah, I suppose, as long as you promise to stay by my side the entire time. Rancors aren't playthings and can kill without skipping a beat. They're very intelligent and powerful creatures, so you can't underestimate them," you immediately said, introducing the beast to your daughter, "Most importantly, do not let yourself be cornered by one. Once that happens, you can kiss your life goodbye."

Elpída focused intensely on the words coming from her father's mouth. She had a bit of nervousness in her expression, but you knew she could handle it. And if she decided a Rancor was too much, she would stay at home with Nephal and Joseph, no big deal either. You and the Droids could take care of whatever came into the path, whether it's a Rancor or a battalion of Stormtroopers,
"Okay, I am ready," she said nervously, "What type of blaster will I have?"

You smiled brightly and grabbed Elpída's hand lovingly, "Follow me. I'll show you."

You lead her into yours and Nephal's room, which was adorned with trophies from important portions of your lives. You lead her to your bed and placed your hands underneath it; pulling out an old-looking box, "I will be giving you my first blaster. It's from all the way back in the Clone Wars. Treat it with care."

Your daughter gawked as you pulled it from the box. It was a small yet sturdy blaster that didn't look as old as it was. The girl bounced it in her hand and smiled up at you, "Thanks, Daddy. It's perfect."

You grinned and ruffled her hair once more, "Alright, enough of that. Let's go get dinner."

The woods were remarkably quiet. Clive and Flash both were equally as quiet; scanning the area for any signs of life. There was tons around, so the Droids really had to concentrate to make sure the targets are correct,
"Ahead," Clive whispered while grabbing your shoulder, "It is a female. My calculations say that females are far more aggressive than the males at this time because it's mating season. We should proceed with caution."

You placed your hand protectively onto Elpída's shoulder; beginning to regret taking your little girl out here into danger. But, your speech you had given her earlier was true— she had to know how to hunt and protect Joseph if anything happened to either yourself or Nephal. She was head of house behind the two of her parents,

"Let's bring it home for dinner, boys," you smiled towards Flash and Clive, "Clean kill, please. Nephal hates it when I get home covered in blood and guts."

"We will do our best, sir," Clive responded. You were very grateful that Clive and Flash alike had stopped calling you 'Commander.' It took them so many years to get that greeting out of their mind. You weren't a Commander anymore— you were just a man with his family that would do anything to protect them.

Elpída slunk behind you, and she clenched your blaster tightly in her little fist. She was a determined little girl, but she wasn't stupid. She knew this was intimidating and very scary, but she also had your strength to never back down,
"What's the plan?" she asked.

You motioned towards Clive and Flash, "They will gather the Rancor's attention by running out. They need to get noticed so you and I can get the kill."

"Won't that put them in danger?" Elpída asked in a worried way, "I don't want anything to happen to them!"

"It's a risk we must take. We have fought much worst in our time," Flash answered while looking down at Elpída, "Clive and I kill Rancor all the time for your dinner table. This is nothing."

You bent down and pressed a kiss to your daughter's forehead, "They're smart Droids. If they didn't believe success was possible, they wouldn't allow us to try. Trust them."

"I do, Daddy," she answered while gripping the blaster, "I'm ready when you guys are."

You grabbed the sniper rifle and placed Elpída onto your back. The plan was to have Clive and Flash distract the Rancor while you and your daughter climb this tree. From up there, you both wouldn't be noticed, and it would be hard for the Rancor to even notice the two of you thanks to the Commando Droids. From there, you'd snipe the Rancor and it would be all over. Easy as that.

The two of you made it up the tree very quickly. Once Flash saw that you and Elpída were alright, he jumped into action alongside Clive.
Once the Commando Droids reached the realization of the Rancor, things began to go very badly. Using one of her heavy claws, the Rancor swatted at Clive; affectively sending the old Droid into the side of a tree. Clive's eyes fizzled from a yellow to a dead grey; the life getting bashed from his old body.

You bit your nails at the sight of this. You could still fix Clive if you moved fast. If not, the Droid could get pounded into dust and there would be nothing you could do about it.
However, Flash was inclined to not let the Rancor do another thing to his brother. Flash leapt quickly over the Rancor's strong arms; blasting her in the face with his blaster. This is when you jumped into action.

You positioned yourself against two branches which were perfect to lean the weight of the sniper rifle against. Lining up the scope with the Rancor's head, you let off a blast. It dug into the Rancor's thick skull, but she was still alive and in a rampage. In her anger, she balled up her fist and slammed it into the tree holding both you and Elpída.
Elpída screamed loudly as the impact sent her out of the tree. You couldn't help but scream as well as she plummeted to the ground below; no hope in sight.

However, a bright light encased your vision right before Elpída collapsed to the ground. A woman emerged, a rather beautiful one at that. It was shocking— this lady looked just like Nephal, your wife, but she had raven-black hair and staggering hazel eyes.
The woman grabbed Elpída midair and swung to the ground. The Rancor whipped around to attack both of the girls, but the woman extended her hand right as the Rancor went to smash them with her large fists. It was as if a sonic boom left her palm, causing the Rancor to shoot off into the distance; colliding into a tree. It fell unconscious.

You scrambled down the tree; tears brimming your eyes at your daughter's near-death experience. Getting a better look at the woman, you realized she looked uncannily like Nephal. The woman smiled and handed you your shaking daughter, "I should go now before my sister comes. Her and I... aren't on good terms. I'm sure you understand, (Y/N)," she said as if you understood context for their relationship. Sister?

As quickly as she had appeared, the woman was gone. She was quickly replaced though by the woman you fell in love with. Nephal had appeared in the clearing right after the mystery woman had disappeared, and she had a worried look on her face,
"What happened?" she demanded, looking at the knocked Rancor and the destroyed Commando Droid, "I sensed Elpída was in trouble! Why did you bring her out here? She's only 11... a Rancor, (Y/N); are you crazy?"

"You have some major explaining to do, honey," you replied, trying to hide the annoyance in your voice from showing at her scolding, "You won't believe who saved your daughter's life? When were you going to tell me you had a sister?"

Nephal sighed and shook her head, "She was a disappointment to my father. Long story short, she abandoned Mortis to have a normal life. She was the original Daughter of Mortis, but when she left, my Father decided to have me. She is... let's just say, an extended family member twice removed."

You cocked your head to the side and shook it, "Are there any other family members I should know about? Any psychopathic cousins? Murderous brothers or aunties?"

"No," Nephal concluded, annoyed with your word choice, "Lila is the only one. She is my older sister, and you should show her some respect considering she just saved Elpída's life. I used to bare harsh feelings for her, but after that, I will have no more bad thoughts of her."

"Then I will not either since you put it like that," you responded, "I was more surprised than anything to see you without your natural charm. I thought you decided to have a fashion change or something," he joked, pulling Nephal into a hug, "I love you. Thank you for coming when you did."

Nephal nodded; her eyes scanning the area uneasily as if Lila would appear once more, "You need something to protect yourself better than that sniper. Clive, Flash, Joseph and Elpída are depending on you, so here is a weapon that might help you."

You wondered why Nephal hadn't revealed such a weapon before, like when Darth Vader and the Emperor had been searching for Elpída, but better late than never.
It was a thick blaster resembling a shotgun. It was rather old but still in fantastic condition, "If anything tries to hurt our baby again, make them pay with this," Nephal stated; an anger edging in her voice as she spoke.

As you embraced your wife, you felt a pair of beady eyes locked onto your back. Turning around, you saw a barn owl resembling a Gryphon, similar to Nephal's animalistic form with those same hazel-red eyes of Lila. You felt more secure, knowing Lila would be watching over your family from now on...
