2nd POV

It's common knowledge to you that you're rather unliked by your Sisters and Brothers of the Inquisition. You were the newest of their ranks, and undoubtedly the cruelest and strongest. That wasn't even the worst part: you'd even overheard some of the Empire's Officers, and even meek Stormtrooper comment about how they hate you... they distrust you.
You were climbing the ladder fast, and you even had Darth Vader's attention, but not in the way you expected.

After all the shadowy words that raked through the minds of your underlings, you'd always expected once Lord Vader got wind of it, he'd not bother to formulate his own opinion. However, he always proved you wrong, whether if it was his ability in battle, his natural leadership skills, and now, you were surprised about how he didn't listen to a single word his people put out against you.

Now, here you are, pacing through the bridge of the Executor, Vader's personal Star Destroyer, accompanied by the Grand Inquisitor and Lord Vader himself. The Sith had a mission just for the two of you... and Vader would be coming too,
"Now listen," his voice boomed, immediately snapping both yourself and the Grand Inquisitor into an attentive state, "The Emperor himself has given these commands, so they must be done with the upmost efficiency. That is why I chose you two for this job. You're both known to be the most brutal and unforgiving in all of the Inquisitors, so I expect progress to happen."

You eyed your two bosses expectantly.
The Grand Inquisitor hated you just as much as the others, and you half guessed it was because he thought you had a chance at taking his job. You didn't think so, though. You still had so much to learn, and honestly, you didn't even want the position. Being the Grand Inquisitor had so many responsibilities that you couldn't even imagine taking on.

"What is the mission?" the Grand Inquisitor questioned, doing his best to keep his eyes on Vader. It was obvious he wanted to shift his gaze at you. He was wondering why you were invited despite the comment about the two of you being the most ruthless Inquisitors from before. He was a very prideful man, and enjoyed getting stuff done without his underlings tagging along.

Vader was gazing out the window at this point, a greenish-blue planet swirling in the distance, "That is Alderaan. There is a princess on that planet that I need captured. She is a beacon of hope for the growing Rebellion. All three of us will invade. Kill anyone who gets in the way, and if you have to, kill Princess Leia. The Emperor wants her alive, but if she has any chance of escaping, kill her without hesitation."

You pondered that for just a moment— Vader wanted you and your Master to purposefully disobey the Emperor? That didn't set right with you,
"My Lord," you stated, standing straight while looking at the terrifying Sith, "The Emperor's word is final. If he wants Princess Leia alive, we are going to bring her in alive. We won't get to the point where we have to kill her. You're working with the best of the best, and we won't disappoint."

You could feel Darth Vader's anger momentarily spiking at your unprovoked words, but he settled down almost just as fast, "Good. You both won't get second chances if you fail."

Bowing, the two of you were immediately dismissed. As you exited the room, the Grand Inquisitor grabbed your wrist. Hard,
"What the hell are you thinking?" he grumbled lowly, once he was certain the Sith Lord was out of listening range, "Don't you ever speak up to Lord Vader again. Do you want to die?"

"Of course not," you snapped back irritably, "But the Emperor's word is law. No one can break it, not even Vader. We aren't even gonna give him the chance to... that's how officiant I want us to be."

The Grand Inquisitor laughed irritably, "You sound like you're trying to be in charge, here."

"I'm not sorry. The Emperor's words need to be taken seriously. If you can't instill and protect his words..." your hand snapped down to your lightsaber immediately as those words left your mouth, "Then you need to be put down. You put everything the Empire works for at risk. I won't allow it."

Silence overtook the edge of the bridge that the two of you were about to exit from. The eyes of the Officers from below deck were sharp. Even though you hadn't glanced down to them, you could feel their eyes just burning you up. Then, came the chatter.
'What is she doing up there?'
'Challenging the Grand Inquisitor like that?'
'She doesn't stand a chance. Might as well just cut her own head off and save the Grand Inquisitor some time.'

Growling, you looked down at them, and they immediately shut up. Just your gaze alone was enough to make them all regret their words. Looking up, you noticed Darth Vader was approaching very rapidly. You couldn't sense anger from him, beyond his standard anger that always radiated from him. Only curiosity over why his two best Inquisitors were about to fight.
For just a moment, you felt doubts about whether you could win this fight. With Vader's glare throughout the whole thing... it would be difficult.

"What are you waiting for?" the Grand Inquisitor jested while pulling his one lightsaber into his grasp, "You started this (Y/N), and I expect you to either end it, or perish. No one questions my authority."

Vader was watching... waiting. You knew he wasn't going to intervene. This was a pivotal point for the Empire. If you won, you would be the Grand Inquisitor. If the current Grand Inquisitor won, you'd surely perish. It would change the course of the war regardless of either outcome.

Unsheathing your lightsaber (a response to your Master's unrelenting taunts), you gritted your teeth irritably. You could steal here all the painful whispers from the Imperials. All their words fuelled you, though. You felt stronger knowing you were going to prove them all wrong.
The Grand Inquisitor unsheathed his red blade as well, and before you could blink, he was on top of you.

There were a few thoughts that swirled through your brain during this duel. Number one: your Master had to be afraid. You couldn't sense it, but he always took a defensive approach to combat when going against another force user. He craved running his opponent down and watching them sweat... cry... pray. He found pleasure in completely wearing people down, yet he was attacking you in an endless display of lightsaber attacks.

Number two: he knows you will defeat him. You had been growing in both strength and will. Your lightsaber technique is flawless, and your knowledge of the force was highly impressive for someone at your age. Deep down, your Master knew that soon, you'd be the Master, and he'd be the apprentice.

Vader watched as you both clashed lightsabers; sparks flying relentlessly in all directions. Members of the bridge ducked and gasped as sparks lit up their stations. Parrying to the left, you launched the Grand Inquisitor's blade away from your exposed belly,

"Getting desperate?" you taunted, unable to keep your eyes off the Sith Lord, "Trying to finish this so soon?"

"I have much better things to attend to... like capturing the Princess on Alderaan."

You felt your anger flare up at that remark. As if you were really holding him back from initiating a plan that wasn't supposed to start until the next day.
The Grand Inquisitor and yourself danced back and forth with frenzied attacks. If you were one of the Officers watching, you'd have guessed this entire fight was planned. Choreographered. That's how smoothly and in-synch the two of you moved.

Finally, the impossible happened. Your Master had suddenly gotten the upper hand. You silently cursed yourself for keeping all the undivided attention latched onto Vader. There was just something about him that piqued your interests: enough to make you risk losing such an important fight.

Dislodging your lightsaber from your grasp, the Inquisitor stood atop you; his red lightsaber pointed directly at your neck,
"It's folly. I hate to lose you, (Y/N), but there's no room for disloyalty in my Inquisition."

Closing your eyes, you waited for the inevitable death that would soon take you. Then, you heard those voices again,
'If only she'd been just a bit stronger, she may have stood a chance.'
'I told you this was a waste of time for the Grand Inquisitor. People like (Y/N) act like Rebels. She needs to be put down like the dog she is.'
'She deserves this.'

It's like a lightbulb went off in your brain. A swoop of anger and energy pulsed through your veins. Unexpectedly, you laid a large kick to the Grand Inquisitor's right knee, sending him plummeting towards the floor. Using the force, your lightsaber snapped to your hand once more.
The man immediately growled; the look of anger and surprise sewn to his lips,
"You're stronger than I thought."

This time, the look Vader gave you was of upmost interest. He too seemed surprised that you got back up, "I told you: I won't let you soil the work the Empire has been building. Attitudes like yours, I consider treasonous!"

The room went silent. Like, you could hear a pin drop.

"Me? Treasonous!" he can't help but laugh, "You're the one attacking your superior with the intent to kill!"

Your blades clashed once more. You maneuvered to the right momentarily, which caused your red lightsaber to nick his cheek. No blood appeared, though. Just an angry, red gash. Snarling, the Grand Inquisitor shook off his pain, and began his flurry attempt to disarm you. But, he wouldn't stop there. His intention was nothing less than murder, and nothing would stop him from doing so.

Once again however, after an endless battle between equals, the Grand Inquisitor had you pinned. You could see the pure rage and hatred through his eyes. They were truly a window to the soul, "I thought you were going to be my right hand someday," he began, positioning himself where his knees were crushing your wrists.  You couldn't help but breathily grimace as the pressure intensified, "You are easily the most formidable and powerful member of your sisters and brothers, yet, you've fallen so far."

You couldn't help but shoot one last glance at Vader, who was still intently watching the conflict. You tried so hard to cause a surge of power to come from nowhere like before, but you were out of steam. The Grand Inquisitor had won, and this was the end for you,
"You won't get away with this," you murmured, staring him in the eyes, "The Empire will fall because of weak minded people like you who don't respect your Emperor. You're a pathetic excuse of a leader, and I hope you see that fact one day."

"Goodnight, (Y/N). This conversation is over."

Your eyes snapped closed immediately. You expected a rush of pain, and then the coldness of death. Despite you being a fallen Jedi, you still believed that once a life form died, they became the inhabitance of the force. Death can't be that bad then. You welcomed it. It would be like coming home after all these years.
But, it never came.

The darkness from your eyes being closed seemed endless. Like no matter how long you looked, nothing would take shape. Nothing would change. An endless void of loneliness and darkness. But, your eyes snapped open after the initial fear of death wore off. You couldn't believe your eyes.

Sputtering, the Grand Inquisitor hung motionlessly in the air. He was just as surprised as you were,
"Lord... Lord Vader?" he stumbled around the words, "What. What are you doing?"

Standing there unbothered, Vader had his hand extended; pulling the Grand Inquisitor lazily from your body, "You're no longer needed. I've seen all I've needed to."

And just like that, the Grand Inquisitor was dead. All Vader had to do was nudge his hand to the right, and he was out like a light. You didn't know how to respond. Standing up, you took one step closer. You half-expected Vader to kill you too after all that happened,
"Look me in the eyes."

You did as the Sith had asked of you.

"That was a test I placed. I anticipated you would be the one to question the Emperor's command. You've surprised me, Grand Inquisitor."

You felt your heart leap into your throat. You never sought out this job, yet it was given to you. Such a huge responsibility and burden to bare.
Dipping to your knee, you bowed,
"Thank you, my Lord. I will not let you down."

As you were about to look up, Vader's index and thumb wrapped around your chin. Soon, your gaze was locked on him, and he subtly nodded, "I know you won't."
