Rey smoothed the blanket on her cot. Finally, she could have some peace and quiet. Rey had just helped the Resistance get settled in the base. She had gotten a small room to herself, and was resting before the meeting Leia had planned to discuss their dilemma. Now, she was sitting cross-legged on her bed. Rey grabbed her satchel and fished out the books she had taken from the tree on Ahch-to. The Jedi books. She traced the symbol of the Jedi order on one. "Wow," she breathed. "These are so ancient." She flipped to a random page and read softly to herself.

"First comes the day

Then comes the night. 

After the darkness

Shines through the light.

The difference, they say,

Is only made right

By the resolving of gray

Through refined Jedi sight."

She stared at the page. "This is the answer. The light side, the dark side, there is a grey side." Before she could continue reflecting on those words, she started getting that feeling. She started hearing something else, in a different place. She saw him. Ben. The Force connection. 

Rey saw Kylo, sitting in what looked like his private room. He spoke a single word. Her name.

Rey.

Kylo stared at Rey. I can see you, but I still can't see your surroundings, Kylo said.

Well, I guess that's a good thing, considering I'm hiding from you and the First Order, Rey retorted.

Rey, I need to tell you something. Something important.

I need to tell you something important too, Ben.

You go first, said Kylo.

No you, replied Rey.

Fine. You're so persistent. Rey saw Kylo pause, a nervous expression on his face.

Ben, what is it? Rey began to get scared.

Snoke. He's.....he's still alive. Kylo let the horrible words fall from his lips as he watched Rey's reaction.

Rey was shocked. She just sat there, gaping. But how, Ben, how? That's not true! It can't be.

It's true, Kylo said. He's alive. When we fought him in the throne room, he was never really there. He used Force projection. That's how powerful he is - he can fake death. I don't who he is or what he is, but I do know where he is. The planet Rengurar."

Rey sat there, processing the information. I know how to defeat him, she finally said.

So do I, Kylo replied. Join me, Rey. We can do it together.

No.

What? 

No. 

What are you talking about? Don't you want to defeat Snoke? He is a threat to the galaxy! If you defeat him with me, we can rule together and be Supreme Leaders. Now it was Kylo's turn to be shocked.

Rey kept a serious expression on her face and looked right into Kylo's eyes. I will not join Kylo Ren. But I will join Ben Solo.

Rey continued to speak. We must meet in the middle of dark and light. The grey. It is the only way to defeat Snoke. We can fight not as light, not as dark, but as grey. 

Kylo turned this idea over in his head. No. The dark side is the only path. It is more powerful than the light side and the grey. A little while ago I was almost talked into turning to the light side, but I will not. Power is what I need to defeat him.

Are you sure Ben?

Kylo paused. I....I don't know.

Are you still mad at me?

Anger came into Kylo's eyes when Rey asked that question. Of course I am. You helped the Resistance escape. My enemy.

Rey had the perfect response. She searched her heart and her mind for the best thing to say to Kylo: Is the Resistance really your enemy, or is it Snoke?

With that, the Force connection closed. Rey was left sitting on her bed. Her hands had gotten sweaty and she was gripping the Jedi book with all her might. 

"Why are we both so stubborn?" she said. "Why is he so stubborn?" Rey placed the Jedi book down next to her.

"Ben will go to Snoke. I know him. Ben is going to get killed!" Rey was distraught. "I have to save him. For Leia! For me! For the galaxy! I must not let Ben defeat Snoke and become Supreme Leader! And I cannot let Snoke win and take over the galaxy either."

Thump. A hard fist hit her door. "Rey, time for the meeting!" Finn's voice could be heard even through her room's thick metal door. 

"Coming!" she shouted. 

"I will kill Snoke and save Ben Solo," she said to herself.
