Captain Kirk ran after Spock, following through the maze of gleaning white halls until they reached a lift. He stepped inside and pressed a button. Kirk dashed into the lift before the glass door slid shut. He was out of breath as he turned to his friend.

Spock said nothing as the lift shot upwards through the tower. Seconds later it shuddered to a stop. The lights flickered and the glowing orange screen began to flash.

The lift trembled again, this time on the verge of plummeting back down the narrow shaft. Spock shot at the door, the glass becoming a spiderweb of cracks.

Just as the glass shattered, the lift dropped. Spock tossed the weapon towards the empty door frame and the elevator came to a violent halt between floors.

Kirk tumbled out of the narrow lift and onto the hard floor. The weapon was unable to hold the weight of the lift for long and the its metal plating was beginning to twist and break. Spock dove onto the lower floor just as the weapon was crushed, sending the lift plunging back down the dark shaft.

Spock grimaced as he climbed to his hands and knees. Kirk leaned over and helped him to his feet.

"You alright?" Kirk asked just as guards blasted through the far door and began to flood into the room.

Spock and Kirk dashed away from each other, taking cover behind the marble pillars. The relentless energy blasts were tearing the stone apart.

Captain Kirk peered around the pillar, shooting at the guards. He managed to hit two, but they were severely outnumbered and Spock no longer had a weapon which he could use.

"Captain, I believe I have an idea of how to escape our current predicament," Spock informed the captain.

"That's great Spock," Kirk shouted back, shooting and then dodging an onslaught of fire. "Whatever it is, you had better do it fast!"

Spock peered over the corner of the pillar at the quickly growing army of guards. With unmatched speed, he sprinted towards the elevator shaft and jumped into the emptiness, grabbing the edge of the floor and swinging through the glass doors and into the level below.

His landing was not as graceful as he had anticipated. His injured leg had given out and he found himself slamming into the hard marble surface, shards of shattered glass falling around him.

He winced, wanting nothing more but to continue laying there. However, that was not an option. He had began staggering to his feet when the captain dropped down the empty elevator shaft, but was unable to swing far enough. He hung from the edge of the floor, barely clinging onto the sheer surface.

Spock rushed over to the edge and grabbed the captain's arm, helping pull him to safety. Kirk climbed to his feet, slapping his friend on the back. "Thanks."

"Do not mention it," Spock said, repeating a phrase had heard his friend so often use.

They made their way the rest of the way through the citadel, avoiding the hoards of guards as they went. As they came to the higher levels of the building, the halls became more massive, ornate pillars and rooms that spanned the length of the expansive building. Which unfortunately meant there were few places in which they could take cover.

Guards came to stop them, but there were fewer this time. Hiding behind the many pillars, moving quickly from cover to cover, they were able to outflank their opponents and quickly dispatch them.

From the numerous windows, it could be seen that the chaos in the city below seemed to have calmed.

Captain Kirk and Spock headed towards a large stairwell. Wide black steps that gleamed in the light filtered through the large sepia windows.

Spock grimaced, finding the action of climbing stairs excruciatingly painful. He stopped for a moment, tightly clutching the railing until his knuckles turned white, his eyes closed tightly as he tried desperately to push aside the pain. It took a moment, during which time Kirk turned back and saw him. He was about to help when the Vulcan's eyes opened and he continued, much more clearheaded than before.

"Looks like we're almost there," Kirk told him. "Just a few more flights of stairs."

They were almost to the top of the flight of stairs when Spock saw something in the corner of his eye.

"Jim move!" He yelled, pushing the captain aside just as a blast of energy tore through the air where they had been standing.

Kirk fired his phaser at the large guard, but it had run out of power and managed only a weak energy beam before ceasing to function all together. The alien roared in frustration, rushing at Kirk and slamming into him, pinning him against the wall.

Spock was about to shoot when the alien spun around at an incredibly fast speed, knocking the weapon from the Vulcan's hand and sending him tumbling down the steps.

The alien turned back to Kirk, wrapping a clawed hand around the captain's neck. Kirk slammed his hands down, breaking the alien's hold for a moment. He dropped to the ground, rolling away before the alien could attack again.

He climbed to his feet, unsuccessfully dodging as the alien's claws slashed through the arm of his thick jacket. Kirk stumbled, grimacing as he held his torn sleeve.

"Captain!" Spock shouted. Both Kirk and the guard glanced over, seeing Spock holding the alien's weapon. He fired, sending the guard staggering through the large sepia windows and into the street far below.

Captain Kirk looked down at his hand and at the red blood staining his fingers. With a a mumbled curse, he shrugged his shoulders back, leaning over and recovering his dropped phaser.

The two continued on to the top of the stairwell and through a wide door, finding themselves on the roof of The Citadel.

A harsh wind blew against them as they stood there, watching a ship began to take off. It was enormous. A thick grey metal plating that was scratched and faded from years of disuse covered the outside. There was a large deck atop the ship on which several guards stood.

Obviously it was not made for high altitude travel, it was something that was completely earth bound.

And also something that was quickly leaving.

Spock and Kirk took off across the roof, sprinting towards the departing vessel. They jumped from the roof, barely making the large gap between the two objects before slamming into the hard metal deck of the ship.

One of the guards was about to fire when Kirk ran at it, pushing it over the edge of the ship and into the fast moving city below.

Spock quickly found himself surrounded by three enemies, who demanded for him to surrender. He paused the slightest of moments, closing his eyes and calculating the mathematical likelihoods of his attack.

When he opened his eyes again, he moved fast. Faster than the guards could have ever anticipated. He knocked the weapon away from the first guard and twisted around, shooting one of the guards and then ducking behind cover as the confused guard shot his own man in an attempt to hit the Vulcan. Spock stepped away from the fallen guard, shooting the last attacker on the deck of the ship.

Kirk looked on in amazement, having taken out only one. They both said nothing as they made their way within the ship's dark hull.

"We gotta get this on the ground," Kirk said, examining the unfamiliar control panels and displays that covered the walls.

Spock nodded, but was otherwise silent as he made certain they would not be attacked from their current position.

"It looks like it's on some sort of programmed course. Autopilot. I can't disengage it," Kirk was saying as he attempted to change the settings.

"Allow me," Spock said, crossing to them and examining the readouts that were listed across the displays.

"Look out!" Kirk shouted, pushing the Vulcan out of the way just as a blast of energy tore the control panels apart.

Sparks flashed across the dark room, the lights flickering , the constant drone of the ship started to fade out. A shudder ran through the heavy metal hull. They were losing power and would start dropping from the sky at any moment.

The two quickly shot the guards. Kirk was about to head up to the deck when he found that Spock had other plans. "Spock we need to get out of here!"

The Vulcan ignored the captain as he headed further into the belly of the ship.

"Spock!"

The dark and narrow hall opened up into a large decorated room. It looked very similar to the interior of the Citadel. Large sepia displays covered the walls like windows, showing the chaos in the city around them.

Two guards stood in front of once great leader. Spock shot the guards before they even had a chance to move. He strode towards Sidian, who had fallen backwards in fear and now was dragging himself across the floor.

"Please!" He begged, holding up his hand. "I surrender to the Federation! Please, I am your prisoner!" He sobbed, pathetically crawling to his knees and kneeling at the Vulcan's feet. "I will stand trial! I am your prisoner!"

"Spock?" Kirk called, watching from across the room as Spock approached the alien without the slightest hesitation.

"Please."

Spock kicked the alien, who fell backwards across the floor sobbing and hissing as it held its now bloodied mouth.

"Spock!" Kirk began to run towards his friend.

Spock aimed the gun at the creature before him. "I told you I would be the last thing you saw before you left this life," He said in a calm voice.

"Please! Mercy! Show me mercy!" The alien shrieked.

"You did not show them mercy," Spock told him.

The alien's face grew calmer as it dropped the pathetic act. It's dark eyes looked at the Vulcan. It almost smirked with satisfaction.

"Spock no!" Kirk yelled just as he fired the weapon.

The alien slammed backwards against the hard marble floor. Kirk stood beside his friend, looking at the dead alien in front of him. "You killed him," He said breathlessly.

Spock said nothing as he lowered the gun and let it drop from his hand. He stood there like a statue, watching the pool of black blood spread across the metal floor.
