Back on the rooftop again for our day break, I got talking to Tyler. He didn't seem surprised to see me even though I warned him that I'd probably be checking out of there the day before. He's coming toward the end of his own treatment. Something he confessed he was happy about, having spent the two weeks walking around with a loaded gun in his pants.

He said it paid better than his gig as a movie extra. Another ambitious actor on the breadline. I've met plenty of those on the streets and in soup kitchens over the years. We talked about Philip. Turns out he's more than just a marketing manager. He's actually the CEO of the company. Tyler had some privileges that the others in the male camp didn't have. Before I arrived, a fight had broken out in the east wing and he'd helped break it up. His handiness with his fists in the absence of the two henchmen who arrived a little later convinced Philip that the new boy could be a steadying influence on the other men - restoring calm when tempers boiled.

As a result of his good behaviour Tyler had been upgraded to a luxury ensuite. He also had a small personal library in a hidden shelf in the wardrobe, and his lights were independent to the rest of the grid, so he could stay up and read for as long as he wanted.

They had also talked about me! Philip was interested to know what we had been crapping on about during our days on the rooftop. Tyler said that Philip was considering another role for me in the company as a result. He thought I had 'potential'. With the crowd I was in, it wasn't hard to shine, but I'll take whatever good news I can get.

About an hour ago I got a knock on the door. It was Philip. He seemed pleased to see me, but then again it was always hard to read him with that dopey grin splitting his face in half. He asked how I was doing. I told him that with the goggles I could see fairly well. He asked if I had taken them off again. The cameras must have caught me a couple of days ago and as the head honcho, no doubt he'd have been aware of it. I said, between the goggles and the patch, my eyes were protected morning, noon and night. Was I taking the pills? I faltered a bit here. I told him I had been. He seemed happy.

With Tyler's heads up it wasn't completely unexpected when he came out with what he did next. He wanted me as a 'team lead liaison'. Someone that would help integrate new women volunteers into west wing. He was quick to point out that the role would be paid and I wouldn't need to pilot any more drugs. Better than that, I didn't even have to stay in the compound. They would be willing to offer a one-bed apartment OUTSIDE! He probably couldn't read the surprise on my face, what with my bug-eye goggles, but I was impressed. Both by the salary and the perks.

There's going to be some sort of 'Annual GeneralMeeting' tomorrow where he's going to be presenting the plan to theshareholders. He wants me to join. I have no idea why I've been chosen, butthere's no harm in seeing what they've got to say!
