Julie's POV

After my encounter in the hallway with Luke, the rest of the school day was a blur. I didn't participate in any of my classes (thank god I didn't have any tests) and I barely spoke to Flynn, which she definitely noticed.

But I couldn't help it! How can a girl just... forget about an interaction like that? My arms still tingled from Luke's touch, and I could still feel his warm breath on my face when I closed my eyes. It was like sparks were flying, and I could tell Luke could feel it, too.

"Julie! Snap out of it!" I jumped at the sound of Flynn's loud voice right next to me ear. I let out a long breath and put a hand on my chest as Flynn cocked her hip out to one side, with a look on her face that said you've been ignoring me all day and I want to know why and I want to know now.

"Sorry," I said, opening my locker. Flynn huffed out a sigh full of disapproval.

"Jules, why have you been spacing out on me all day?" She asked, crossing her arms. I sighed and started putting my things away, as the school day would end in a few minutes.

"There's just been a lot on my mind," I said. Flynn raised her eyebrows.

"Like what? You were fine this morning when we walked to school and during homeroom, but when you got to third period you were a completely different person!" She said as I grabbed my backpack out of my locker. "So what in the world happened in between homeroom and third period?"

"I, um, just got new ideas for a song," I said, smiling as I took my sweatshirt out of my bag. Flynn's eyes narrowed.

"I'm your best friend. I know when you're lying," she stated, slamming my locker shut, causing me to jump. "So spill. Now."

I sighed, knowing that there was no getting out of it.

"Okay, fine. Luke visited me after homeroom, okay?" I said, opening my locker again to put the last of my books away. Flynn stumbled for a minute, almost falling over.

"What? He came here?" She asked, her eyes bulging out of her head. "Did anyone see him?" I groaned. Even though I had explained Flynn the whole I-can-touch-the-guys-and-they-can-be-seen-when-they-feel-like-it situation, she didn't seem to understand that they stayed visible to only me most of the time.

"No, no one saw him... but our homeroom teacher did see me standing alone in the hallway like weirdo," I said, closing my locker. Flynn pursed her lips, deep in thought, before breaking out into a sly smile.

"So what did Luke say that made you daydream about him for the rest of the day?" She asked in a teasing tone.

"It wasn't what he said more than what he did," I mumbled, swinging my backpack over my shoulder. Flynn let out a dramatic gasp.

"Omg! Did he kiss you?" She exclaimed. My eyes widened and I slapped my hand over her mouth, but it was too late- almost everyone in the hallway was staring at me. I cursed under my breath and took my hand away from Flynn's mouth.

"Not so loud," I whispered, ushering her to a different hallway. "And no, he didn't kiss me- but he almost did." Flynn smiled widely.

"Jules, he totally likes you!" She said, squealing in excitement. I raised an eyebrow.

"Are you kidding? He probably didn't even notice how close we were standing," I said. "And he was about to say something when our teacher interrupted, but I highly doubt it was anything romantic." Flynn just stared at me like I was the stupidest person on earth.

"You are so blind," she scoffed before walking away.

"Wait! Where are you going?" I called.

"Home!" She shouted back. "I can't afford to be around this stupidity any longer!" I sighed. No matter how much I wanted it to be true, Luke didn't like me. And even if he did, there was no way it could work. I'm alive, he's... well, not. I'd grow old and die and he would just stay seventeen forever. Why even bother, when I'm just going to get hurt in the end?

I sighed and walked down the hallway in the opposite direction as Flynn so I could take the long way to  the front exit of the school. When I had a crush on Nick,  I memorized his schedule so I knew where he was going to be at all times. My obsession came in handy, it turns out, since I hadn't seen Nick at school since before the Orpheum- I just hoped he wouldn't  show up at my house again.

When I finally made it home, thoughts of Luke were still swirling around in my head. Instead of going inside, I headed straight for the studio. Perfect Harmony, the song I absentmindedly wrote in dance class, was playing in my head again, and I had to get out.

I walked over to the piano, placing my backpack on the ground next to it. I sat down on the bench and let my fingers hover over the keys as the lyrics came back to me.

"Step into my world..."

Luke's POV

After shooting a snarky reply at Reggie, I poofed outside of Julie's house without seeing his reaction. I appeared on her front porch and was about to go inside when I heard the melody of the piano and the telltale sound of Julie's voice coming from the studio.

I smiled and walked down the stone path and was about to open the doors when I realized that it was an unfamiliar melody. Was Julie working on a new song? I pressed my ear to the door and listened.

"The truth is finally breaking through

Two worlds collide when I'm with you

Our voices rise and soar so high

We come to life when we're

In perfect harmony

Whoa-oa-oa, whoa-oa-oa..."

The melody and lyrics were beautiful- was there anything this girl couldn't do? I pulled the doors open to see Julie sitting at the piano with her eyes closed.

"Perfect harmony

Whoa-oa-oa, whoa-o-"

Julie's eyes suddenly opened and her voice was cut off by a high pitched squeak. She jumped, obviously not expecting anyone to walk into the studio.

"Sorry," I said, walking over to the piano. "I didn't mean to interrupt." Julie looked down at her hands, her face bright red.

"It's fine," she whispered, flinching as I sat down next to her on the bench.

"What was that?" I asked. "It sounded really good."

"It's nothing," Julie mumbled, her face still red as a tomato. "It was just something about...  someone..." My heart dropped. Who was this someone? What had he done to deserve a love song like that?

"W-well, it's good," I said, trying not to become irritated, "but I've never heard you play  it before."

"Um, t-that's because I-I haven't. I thought of it in dance class," she said quickly, still refusing to look at me. My heart broke. The song was about Nick? Even after everything he had done to her? After he grabbed her? After he made her lose sleep- and not in a good way?

"If you don't mind me asking," I said coldly, causing her to finally look me in the eye, "why would you write a song about Nick? He... he scared you remember?" I asked, trying not to sound rude. Julie looked confused for a moment before she burst out laughing.

"Nick? No it's- it's not about Nick, he's my friend- well, was..." she said, her face falling at the end. I, on the other hand, broke out into a smile. It wasn't Nick! But... if she wasn't into him, then who? My smile faltered as I racked my brain. I couldn't  think of any guy besides Nick she'd ever talked about. Who could he be?

"Sooooo, who's it really about?" I said, leaning closer, desperate to know who my competition was. Julie's eyes widened and looked away.

"I can't really tell you," she said, biting her lip. I internally groaned. She looked at me again and I took the opportunity to move even closer.

"Come on," I teased. "You can tell me, I'm your best friend!" Julie raised her eyebrows.

"That position is already filled by Flynn."

"Okay, then I'm your nicest friend!"

"Alex."

"I'm your funniest friend!"

"Reggie."

I gasped, pretending to be hurt. "Did you just say that Reggie's funnier then me?" I asked dramatically. Julie giggled and pushed my face away with her hand. I retaliated by licking it. She pulled her hand away sharply, a disgusted look on her face.

"Did you just lick my hand?" She asked, wiping it on her shirt. "What are you, eight?"

"Yup," I grinned as she groaned. Before either of us could say anything else, the studio doors opened.

"Julie?" Ray said, poking his head in. "Are you in here?"

Julie nodded, and I waved awkwardly from my spot on the piano bench.

"Oh, hello, Luke," he said, smiling warmly at me. "Are you guys writing a song?"

"No," Julie shook her head. Just talking." At that moment, Reggie walked past Ray and into the studio.

"Whatcha talkin' about?" He asked, wiggling his eyes at me when Julie and Ray couldn't see him. I gave him a shut up now glare and turned back to Julie and Ray.

"Reggie wasn't annoying you too much, right, Dad?" Julie asked. Ray chuckled.

"No, he's actually been really helpful," he said. "He knows a surprising amount of good '90's rock songs." Reggie grinned proudly as Julie and I shook our heads.

"What can I say, I like old music!" Reggie exclaimed, plopping down on the couch. Ray grinned.

"I'll call you guys for dinner," he said before leaving the studio and closing the doors behind him. I stood up and walked over to my guitar.

"What song do you guys wanna play?" I asked, playing around with my amp.

"Wait, where's Alex?" Julie asked, looking around.

"Oh, he's out somewhere, clearing his head," Reggie said smugly. "He and Willie kissed for the first time today." Julie's mouth dropped open.

"No way!" She screeched, jumping up from the piano bench. "So Willex is canon?"

"Yes!" Reggie yelled back as Julie started to run over to him, probably to get more details. She didn't get very far, though, as she tripped over her backpack that lie forgotten on the ground.

"Whoa-" she yelled, and as she started falling I instinctively ran over and tried to catch her before she hit the floor, but she accidentally knocked me off balance and we both went crashing down to the ground. My heart rate quickened as I realized that she was laying on top of me, our bodies pressed together. Julie scrambled to get off of me (although I wouldn't have minded if she just stayed where she was) and offered her hand to me once she was standing.

"S-sorry!" She said a little too loudly.

"It's fine," I replied, taking her hand. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Reggie smirking at us, which I decided to ignore. "It was an accident."

Julie bit her lip (which brought the butterflies back) and nodded.

"Yeah. An accident."

We stood there, staring at each other for way longer than normal. As I looked into her eyes, I noticed little golden flecks in her deep brown irises. It only made me love her even more.

We were interrupted by the sound of someone poofing into the studio. I turned around to see Alex standing next to Reggie.

"What's going on, you guys?" He asked.

"Nothing, we're just hanging out," I replied before Reggie could open his mouth and say some suggestive comment about the position Julie and I were in just moments before.

"Oh, cool," Alex said. "Are we gonna rehearse today?" I shrugged and looked at Julie.

"You're the boss," I said, and Julie let out a small laugh that didn't sound quite right.

"Actually, I have a ton of homework," she said apologetically. "Sorry, guys."

"It's fine," Alex replied, looking out the window. "I needed a break, too." Julie and I smirked at each other.

"Why? Thinking about Willie?" I asked, enjoying the way a huge blush spread across Alex's face. It was then that I understood why Reggie found so much joy in teasing people.

"Um, n-no," he said, rubbing the back of his head.

"You totally were!" Julie laughed. Alex groaned.

"Fine, I 'totally was!'" He said, sitting down on the couch. "He's just too cute!"

Julie smiled and walked over to him.

"When do I get to meet Willie?" She asked.

"Whenever, I guess," Alex said. "I don't know when I'll see him again." Julie shrugged.

"Well, you and I should definitely have a boy talk sometime," she said. Her comment only caused the sinking feeling in my stomach to return, reminding me that she liked someone else. I tried to keep the smile on my face as I said,

"Hey, Julie, don't you have homework or something?" Julie looked confused for a moment before her eyes widened.

"Oh, y-yeah. I should get started on that now," she replied, walking towards the studio doors. "I'll see you guys at dinner!" She said hastily before closing the doors. An awkward silence filled the air.

"Dude, you okay?" Alex asked, walking over to me. "You've never reminded Julie that she had to leave. In fact, I've seen you try to make her forget about her homework so she'd spend more time with you." I sighed.

"I know, it's just..." I contemplated over whether or not I should tell them my  dilemma. I already admitted to liking Julie, so why keep it from them.

"When I walked into the studio earlier, she was singing this song I had never heard before," I said, slumping onto the couch. "It was a love song, about some guy from her school." I squeezed my hands into fists.

"You mean Perfect Harmony?" Alex and Reggie said in unison. I looked up in surprise.

"You guys know it, too?" I asked. Reggie raised his eyebrows as Alex said,

"Yeah! We've walked in on her playing it a few times. We've also heard her humming it under her breath before." My eyes widened.

"How have I never heard it until now?" I asked.

"Maybe because she didn't want you to hear it," Reggie said, raising his eyebrows like he was trying to tell me something. I squinted in confusion.

"Why wouldn't she want me to hear it?" I asked.

"Oh my god!" Reggie exclaimed, throwing his hands into the air. "You are so stupid! It's not about a guy from her school, it's about-"

"Reggie!" Alex yelled, slapping a hand over the bass player's mouth. I immediately shot up from the couch.

"Wait, you guys know who it's about?" Alex sighed and removed his hand from Reggie's mouth.

"Yeah," he said, scuffing his shoes against the ground. "But it's her place to tell you, so don't go begging us for answers."

"Fine," I huffed, walking out of the studio. "I'll just find out myself."

Once I was outside the studio, I poofed into Julie's room, intending to go through her dream box again. I had only been there for a second when-

"Luke!"

I whirled around to see Julie sitting on her bed, glaring at me.

"What are you doing here?" She questioned. I racked my brain for an excuse as I backed away.

"I just wanted to... um..." I started. Julie narrowed her eyes.

"If you can't come up with a better excuse then that, get out!" She said fiercely.

"Okay, fine. I'm sorry," I mumbled, poofing out back into the studio. I sighed.

"Let me guess. She kicked you out two seconds after you got in there?" Reggie asked, eyeing me from the couch. I sighed.

"Luke, dude. You gotta let it go," Alex said. "She'll tell you when she's ready." I bit my lip and stared at the ground.

"Okay, fine," I muttered. "I'll stop being nosy."

"Good," Reggie said as Alex nodded in approval. "Because girls hate it when you keep bugging them about something. Just drop the topic, and then, when she's at school... you go through the dream box and figure it out!" Alex stopped nodding and stared at Reggie, wide-eyed.

"Reggie!" He yelled, practically shooting lasers into Reggie's head with his eyes.

"That's a good idea!" I said, laughing when Alex turned his laser eyes on me.

"I have them from time to time," Reggie said, smirking.

"No! Do not go through Julie's stuff!" Alex shouted. I started laughing again.

"Relax, man, were kidding," I said, leaning against the piano, my spirits finally being lifted. Reggie was right about one thing- I need to forget about the box, and forget about the song. Julie will tell me when she wants to, whenever she does. I can wait.

Hey everyone! This is my version of the Perfect Harmony episode that NEEDS to be in season 2. Like, NEEDS needs. Come on, Kenny, make this canon!

Don't worry, though. In my story, this is not the last you'll see of the dream box, or Perfect Harmony.
