It had been almost midnight when Sun-Hee went to bed last night and she had been so tired that she just slept all morning. She had always been a deep sleeper. She normally had to set several different loud alarms to wake up. But there was a sound that was breaking through her sleep. A pounding, a non-stop pounding that was starting to really annoy her because Dang it, I'm sleeping here!
She reached for her phone. Sixteen notifications! She looked at the time and it was 11:30am.
Bam! Bam! Bam! There was that pounding again. She eased down from her bed and padded to the door and opened it. Hobi was standing there with a determined look on his face. But when he saw Sun-Hee his bright smile showed up. "You've been sleeping all day like Jimin, time to get up! I've texted you so many times!"
Hobi gave Sun-Hee a look up and down, she looked really cute in the morning. Her hair was a mess, her eyes were barely open, and she wore full body pink striped pajamas that were at least three sizes too big. They might even be men's pajamas, the cuffs came to well below her hand and the legs were so long they covered her feet.
Hobi patted her on the head then reached down and grabbed a drink tote with about 6 drinks in it and brushed past Sun-Hee into her apartment. Hobi brought the drinks into the kitchen and set them on the counter. "I've brought coffee. Someone didn't answer my texts, so I didn't know what kind you liked. So I just got a variety."
Sun-Hee climbed onto a kitchen stool and attempted to smile, but she was still half asleep and squinting. "That was nice of you." She reached out for the first one that looked like brown water with ice in a clear cup. She took a sip, "Arghh!" she gave the most horrible frown, then pushed it aside.
Hobi smirked, "The Americano has been rejected."
Sun-Hee reached for the next drink. A shorter white cup with a lid. She took a sip then stuck out her tongue and shook her head.
"A definite 'NO' for the Latte." Hobi commentated.
Sun-Hee decided instead of doing this in order maybe she should look at them and pick one. There was one in the back that was in a clear cup with whip cream on top that looked like a chocolate milkshake. She reached behind and got that one. She put the straw to her mouth and it didn't come out until a third of the drink was gone.
"She's a Mocha Frappe kind of girl! I'll text it to the group chat so we don't forget your coffee order."
Sun-Hee's eyes were open now and she was smiling. "Thanks for coming to help me today Hobi, as you can see I have a lot of work to do."
Hobi smiled encouragingly, "We'll do it together and it will be in order in no time!"
Sun-Hee quickly got dressed into a yellow graphic tee and cut off jean shorts. She brushed her teeth, washed her face, and ran a brush through her hair. She came back to the living room and Hobi had three boxes open. "You have lots of books. We need some bookshelves."
"I'm going to have to buy that because there weren't any here when I arrived."
Hobi pulled out his phone and started scrolling, "What about these?" He showed the picture to Sun-Hee. "See how the shelves on the bottom are a little wider and taller? And there is variation in the top shelves as well. I think this stain on the wood would go well with the floor and couch. We could put it on this wall as you walk in the front door. We'll put books on some shelves and add in accent pieces like pottery, a wooden bowl filled with pinecones, and other decorations on the others."
"I love that so much! Yes!" Wow, Hobi really had an eye for this.
"Ok, I'm going to order it now to be delivered." Sun-Hee grabbed her purse and handed her credit card to Hobi. Hobi held her card while ordering but he never looked at it.
"Hoseok, you can't buy me all that, I can see you didn't put my number in."
"Oh! I just ordered it COD, they'll take payment when they deliver it."
"Oh, okay, great! Thanks." Sun-Hee was really grateful for Hobi's help.
Just then Sun-Hee's phone buzzed and she realized she never checked all her notifications. They were probably from Hobi when he was trying to wake her up this morning. She started scrolling through the messages and there were several from the boys saying good morning. Jimin hadn't texted yet though.
Then there was a message from an unknown number.
Unknown7: Sunny, I know I messed up but you can't run from me forever. I need to talk to you. Text me back or I'll have to come find you. You know I can. Tobi
Air, why couldn't she get air? Sun-Hee felt a sharp pain increasing in her chest. She started to see twinkling lights on the edges of her vision. Why wouldn't her lungs work?
Hobi saw Sun-Hee's distress and ran over to catch her as she was falling over. He got her to the couch and started to assess her condition. "Sun-Hee? Honey? Are you okay?" Hobi gently petted her face and head and arms trying to figure out how to help. "Do you have asthma? What do you need? Do you have an inhaler I can get?"
Sun-Hee shook her head and just then she took a deep breath. Hobi's petting had helped her relax and breathe again. But she continued to gasp for breath for several minutes as if she had just run a marathon.
"What happened Pretty Girl?" Hobi's genuine concern was written all over his face.
"I got a text from someone that shouldn't have had my new number. Sorry I probably overreacted." Hobi could tell this wasn't the whole story.
Hobi went over to grab her phone that had fallen to the floor. Glancing at the text on the screen, he quick copied and pasted it into a translation app. His mouth dropped open at the threat, but all he said was, "Shall we block him then?" Sun-Hee had started to cry now, but she nodded in agreement.
"Ok, Pretty Girl." But what Hobi was thinking was: How do I find this Tobi guy and have him killed? Maybe not killed, maybe just hurt very badly. Hobi reread the text. No, actually, killed was correct. This arrogant bastard needed to be taken out. How dare he threaten sweet Sun-Hee? And he knew by her reaction to the text that this Tobi fellow was bad news.
Hobi clicked on a few settings and Tobi was blocked. "All done, you can't get a call from that number again." He sat down on the couch and put his arms around the crying girl and continued to pet her head and back. "Shhhh, it's okay now. It's all over. Do you want to talk about it?"
Sun-Hee buried her face in Hobi's chest and shook her head. "I can't."
Hobi continued to whisper encouragements to Sun-Hee until she finally calmed down. "Shall we go have some of those left overs in your fridge before we start again?"
Sun-Hee nodded again, she had stopped crying now. She was really glad Hobi had been here to help. "Thanks for being here Hobi."
"Oh, sweet girl, thats what friend are for."
After a delicious lunch they started unpacking again. They put away all Sun-Hee's clothes. They set up her desk area by the big window in the living room so she could look out on the trees. Hobi had great ideas for storage and decor and he ordered everything on the spot to be delivered. They also had so much fun together, laughing and joking through the whole unpacking process.
"This is going to be the most beautiful place I've ever lived! I'm so excited for all the stuff to arrive! You are really good at this Hobi!"
"Thanks, I had so much fun with you today! It is going to be such a great apartment that you won't ever want to leave!" At least Hobi hoped that was the case.
Both of their phones buzzed.
Jimin: Hobi, stop hogging Sun-Hee to yourself! Bring her up here so we can see her too!
Hobi looked at Sun-Hee, "Well, look who finally woke up!"
SH: Morning Jimin. I actually have to run an errand but I'll text you when I get back so I can drop by.
Hobi enveloped Sun-Hee in a big long hug and rubbed her back. "I had a fun day. See you when you get back."
"Thanks Hobi, bye." She closed the door behind Hobi then looked at her buzzing phone.
Jimin: But I don't like waiting. Do your errand later, come up now!
SH: LOL I've only known you a day and I can already see you are spoiled rotten. Do you always get your way? I've actually got to take care of something right away but I promise it won't take long.
Jimin: Hold on.
