-------------------------------------------------

Hi soulmates,
Thank you for coming <3

In honor of this title, I want to talk about

the events that made you grow up.

------------------------------------------------

------------

------------

--------------------------------------------------

You will become un-bonded soon."

--------------------------------------------------

It's like an explosion went off in her head,

rendering her speechless.

Blue flashes threaten the edge of her vision.

Her head turns of its own accord,

to look at Jungkook,

for a cue...

for...

anything.

Jungkook's eyes are wide.

But then his eyebrows draw together,

and his eyes narrow

a scowl takes over his face

as he stares down the man across from him.

"What  did you say?"

  Jungkook snarls,

but it's not really a question.

It sounds more like a challenge,

his chin lifted

his jaw squared.

He's looking down

through the narrowed slits of his eyes

as though he was daring him

to repeat himself.

Dan adjusts his silver glasses, and sighs.

"I am soulmate bonded.

It gave my soulmate and I... an ability.

We can see soulmate energy. Everybody's soulmate energy.

That's why I'm..."

He gestures to his office.

An expert.

Jungkook physically takes a step back,

like a stagger,

but he can't

or rather

he doesn't want to

believe it.

But looking through the floor to ceiling windows

at the undeniably desirable real estate location,

he can't help remember what Namjoon had said earlier today...

"We found you the best of the best, Jungkook.

This guy is THE soulmate bonding expert to talk to.

And he's got the price tag to go with it too.

But I just hope it helps you.

Try to make use of it, okay? "

Jungkook is shaken by his thoughts

and turns to look over at his soulmate,

to see what she was making of this,

but instead,

he is struck clean through his chest

at her expression.

She is shaking like a leaf in the wind,

her large, wide eyes looking up at him

helplessly,

her lower lip trembling.

Her vulnerability

casts a bolt of lightning through him,

his heart pounding in distress.

He tightens his hand around hers.

"It's not going to happen.

Not to us."

----

An assistant in a pencil skirt brings them all hot tea,

as they are seated with Dan

at an arrangement of posh sofas,

Jungkook has his soulmate pulled close next to him,

closer than proper in company

he knows

but he can't help himself

because she's shaking,

her brows tightened,

her eyes lost.

And he doesn't even know what to do.

He has never seen her like this.

"Hey," Jungkook whispers,

tucking her in his arm.

Her dazed eyes find his

but she's not focused.

Aware of Dan's polite attempt to look away from them,

Jungkook lowers his head,

his lips by her ear.

"Hey, come back to me," he murmurs.

She looks at him

actually sees him this time.

And he presses his forehead to hers.

"It's you and me," he says.

He can hear her shaky breath

as she whispers

"I'm afraid."

And his heart squeezes so tight

he has to fight for his next breath.

He wants to wrap her into his chest

but he can't

so he just presses her hand over his heart

looks her in the eye

and fiercely announces

"From now on,

whatever you're afraid of

will have to get through me first."

---

A few sips of tea helps bring them back to the present.

But Jungkook's hand doesn't leave hers,

and he presses his leg firmly against hers,

the soulmate energy calming them both.

Dan actually looks sad after he overhears their exchange

and this scares Jungkook more than anything.

But the man isn't a showman.

The moment Jungkook nods at him to signal that they were ready to hear it,

he nods back.

"Let's get straight to it, then.

She can send the energy like that to you for two reasons.

One, because you've already opened yourself up to her.

You're committed. You've decided that. That's why she can access you."

"But it happened day by day..." his soulmate says quietly.

Dan nods.

"He probably opened up to you day by day."

Jungkook is staring at the floor.

Mortified his feelings were being out for discussion.

But also relieved.

Relieved she would know how he felt.

"Well what's the second reason," he prompts.

Dan talks to her again, and Jungkook begins to feel defensive.

"Did you have a vision?

It would be the two of you somewhere. Usually happens while you're asleep.

And you have to reach for Jungkook?

He doesn't move in the vision?"

"Yes," she whispers, awestruck.

She'd never told a soul.

Not even her best friend Chae-young.

Not Jungkook.

Not anyone.

How did this man...

How did he know?

Jungkook is frozen too.

"I thought it was just a dream..." he says.

Dan shakes his head.

"You have a very rare bond.

It's called a Forgettable bond.

The first person to fully accept the bond is the Key.

That's you," he looks to Jungkook.

"You are the Key.

The Key is the one who opens the abilities to find each other, share pain...

But... the Key will also...

forget this bond.

In fact, by the strength of your bond, looks like the time is almost up."

Jungkook is rolling his tongue in his cheek.

Dan continues, undaunted.

"The other, is the Lock. "

He gestures to her.

"You are called the Lock because you lock the memory of your bond, even if he forgets.

You don't forget unless you choose to.

In the vision, he can't move.

Grab him in your vision and he will remember for another cycle.

Walk away and you will forget too.

If you choose to, you can both forget."

"Why would we want that," Jungkook spits out.

Dan holds up a hand, asking him to wait.

"The moment the Lock forgets, soulmate bond will fade away.

And both of you could find another soulmate.

That's why your bond is so special.

You can reroll fate itself."

He opens his hands.

"Or, once you forget, you can live without a soulmate.

You can live normal lives.

Find love the normal way.

Some people want that."

"Well, we- we don't," Jungkook says aggressively.

Dan looks down.

"Forgettable bonds are rare.

Very rare.

They create very powerful soulmates.

Who are linked in many ways.

I have heard of forgettable soulmates who can feel each others location down to the precise

address from across the globe.

And sharing pain, is also difficult. It's a lot of pain to bear."

Jungkook shakes his head.

"And why would she ever want me to forget, but remember herself?"

Dan looks at her.

"Sometimes forgettable bond power is too much.

Sometimes the Lock spares the Key,and sets the Key free....

but wishes to remember for themselves.

The Key has no say in this.

The Lock gets to decide.

Every cycle.

Whether to let the Key go."

Jungkook turns to her in fear.

Never, never do that,

he wants to say,

But Dan is still talking.

"Right now, that all sounds strange to you.

But it's because your abilities are not full height yet.

In a few cycles... they will be.

And you'll understand then.

There will be a lot of headaches, confusing thoughts and images.

You will feel all of your pain, and all of each other's pain, plus pain on top of that from the Forgettable bond.

It's not an easy life.

There will be a lot of pressure, constantly.

Being responsible for each other is like living two lives at once."

Jungkook wants to growl at him,

but the man's solemn face didn't seem happy to be telling them this.

In fact,

he looked very sad.

Nonetheless, Dan takes in Jungkook's defensive body language,

and he stands.

"But you don't have to figure it out right now.

If you want to, you can come back in a few cycles, and maybe we can talk again then."

Jungkook pulls his soulmate to her feet, wraps his arm around her,

and turns away instantly, leaving the esteemed office.

His manager stands up in the waiting room,

confused

but following them tightly into the elevator.

And Jungkook couldn't get out of there fast enough,

away from the older man's knowing eyes

sad voice,

away from the place Jungkook was told

he was destined to lose his soulmate.
