CHAPTER TWENTY THREE

February (1 month later)

Amoura covered her face with the cover again and took it off fast making Ace laugh. She did it again and he laughed more.

"Okay enough I've done that about sixty times." She tickled him making him laugh

"Noo keep going" he whined

"Watch tv. I gotta pee." Amoura got up and went to the bathroom

  After peeing she washed her hands and started the shower. Checking her phone she went to her period tracker app and seen she was three weeks late on her period. Even though that usually happened she knew something was off with the way her body had been acting these past couple weeks.

  Amoura took her shower and got dressed. She got Ace ready also. She put some juice inside his Spider-Man sippy cup, before handing it to him. Once she put it back up they left out. The drive to target was a little long but not an hour away.

Ace talked her head off as they walked through the store. Amoura went to the aisle she seen the pregnancy tests were and grabbed two before putting it in the cart.

"Ace stop touching stuff because if it all falls I'm leaving you right there."

Amoura got a few additional things and went to check all of it out. Once she was done she drove to Wendy's for Ace and chickfila for herself.

She wasn't worried with having the tests because she was for sure she wasn't pregnant. Her period gave her many scares like this and she just knew with the plan bs she was taking she was good.

Getting back to the house, Amoura went straight to the bathroom as Ace watched tv in her room. She sighed as she took both pregnancy tests out the boxes. Mind as well just see. She took a long sip of her lemonade just to make it more easier for her to have to pee. After waiting a couple minutes she peed on both sticks. When she was done she put them both on a rag on the counter and wiped herself.

"Mommyyyyy" she heard Ace whining

"Yes Ace?"

"I want some crackers"

"I'll get you some when I'm done."

Amoura washed her hands and went to get Ace some crackers while she waited for the tests. She gave them to him and went back in the bathroom where she picked up one of the test. Her heart felt like it went in her stomach when she seen it had a plus sign. She quickly looked at the other and picked it up. Plus sign again.

"What the fuck..." she said under her breath

She didn't know what to think or even do. She just stared at the test. Completely in shock because she really thought she'd just see she wasn't pregnant and know to actually start being careful.

"Bro what the fuck." She grabbed her phone and called Emani

Her voicemail picked up "Sorry I couldn't take your call, I will give you a call back when I can. Bye."

Amoura went in her room and saw Ace was falling asleep. Amoura started feeling sick and went back to the bathroom. She lift the toilet seat and threw up. Everything she had been eating was barely able to stay down she didn't know why she thought getting chickfila would be different this time. After she was done she went to brush her teeth.

"This cannot be forreal." She whispered, cutting the water on

Her phone started ringing before she was done and she answered Emani. After spitting out what she was gargling she wiped her mouth and put the phone to her ear.

"I was taking care of something for my mom but hey." Emani said

Amoura didn't know how to tell her. She sighed "Emani I've been feeling like shit for a minute now so I had decided to ge-"

"Girl slow down." Emani said

Amoura paused and took a deep breath "Emani I'm just all over the place right now. So I- I got two pregnancy test right? Both of these are saying positive. I don't know what to do right now. And my heart is about to jump out my damn chest."

"Bitch... say sike now."

"I wish I could... I'm so damn stupid."

"You're not stupid Amoura... hardheaded yeah, but not stupid."

"No, I'm stupid." She said "I knew exactly what could've happened and now look at me."

"Amoura I'm coming over. I'll text you when I'm outside just come out."

"Okay." She said before hanging up

Amoura sat in the bathroom thinking for at least fifteen minutes. Her mind was in spirals right now. When Emani texted her she was outside, she made sure to hide her pregnancy tests before going out. She got in the car.

"I have to get an abortion that's my only option right now."

Emani mouth was open as she was taken back with shock "Amoura why—I mean well, it's definitely up to you because I understand why you wouldn't..."

"I'm not having no baby. I can't."

Emani didn't say anything and it was silent. Amoura was thinking selfishly right now, she didn't expect herself ever to be in this type of predicament.

"This kinda doesn't feel real and I still haven't processed it yet... I know we weren't careful we were far from that but I've been lucky for a minute now so I didn't think it would actually happen..."

"Me either to be honest with you."

"I'm literally doing so good in school and this is not something I wanna deal with." Her eyes watered as she spoke "This is the last thing I expected... the last thing."

"Did you tell your grandma yet?"

Amoura wiped her tears "No. I just found out."

"When you planning on telling them?"

"Uh never. I don't wanna tell her." She said "She won't even trust me anymore since I lied to her."

"You told her you wasn't having sex?"

"I told her we used protection."

"So you're serious about the whole abortion thing?"

"I am. I'm just tryna get it over with and act like this never happened."

"Don't you think Dre deserves to know?"

"Nope. He doesn't even want a baby he'll be fine. He'd probably want me to get the abortion too."

Emani sighed "Well I'm not telling you not to get rid of the baby but at least think more on it before you make such a big decision like that."

"I don't have time to think. I'm still in school and not at all ready for another child. I'm already not sure how I'll be able to do college away with Ace. How imma do anything with another baby. No my mind is made up."

"You know you have to have your grandma or grandpas consent to do it right? You're under eighteen."

"You're eighteen you can't give it?"

"I don't think so... they'll know I'm just your friend. I may need other paperwork to show I can actually make that decision I believe."

"...At this point I don't even know what to do."

"You better tell Dre."

"And why would I do that?"

She turned her attention to Amoura "Sis thats his baby. Whether he mad about it or not, you won't know until you tell him. Imagine you don't tell him go and get the abortion somehow he finds out and pissed with you?"

"He won't find out cause we been stopped talking. He never coming back into my life." She shrugged

"Amoura that's selfish. Just tell him you're thinking about getting an abortion and see what he has to say."

"Selfish? I don't want him doing anything to piss me off because I know how he is. He's gonna say something rude that's gonna make me mad."

"Do what you want Amoura. You don't listen that's why you in this situation now."

Amoura didn't say anything.

"It's not the end of the world. If anything this baby should be what causes you to work harder to achieve your goals in life."

"Emani it's easier said than done."

"How about putting it up for adoption after having it?"

"I would consider that but I don't want to be pregnant at all. I don't want my grandma or papa knowing... I just can't be pregnant."

"Amoura I don't know what to tell you."

She didn't say anything. Picking at her nails in deep thought.

"What if you're too far along to get one?"

"I doubt I'm far along because I just started getting symptoms recently. I have to be at least 5 weeks... I'm not sure though."

"Sis just cause you weren't having symptoms does not mean you weren't pregnant. Y'all been having sex raw?"

"Yeah."

"So you could be more than that. Only way to really find out is going to the doctors."

"I know." She looked up "Why does this shit have to happen to me?"

"Baby could be a blessing. Probably make Dre ass get his shit together and even if the baby doesn't bring out the best in him it'll for sure bring out the best in you. I see you do good constantly with Ace."

"I doubt it will make him better."

"You always thinking negative."

Amoura sighed "Can't help but to."

"Is your stomach sticking out yet?"

Amoura lifted her shirt and they both looked. She appeared a bit bloated but it wasn't too noticeable.

"Not really."

"That's okay. It'll prolly take you a minute to start showing."

She was still thinking about the abortion. She wasn't ready to have a baby so she was considering it. She just had to find a way to make that happen with her not being eighteen yet. Plus, not even knowing how far she was in order to get it done.

"I'm tired Emani. I'll call you when I wake up." She said "That's another thing I noticed about myself, I've been so sleepy lately. Which is why I didn't get to finish that project last night. And I be falling asleep in my last two classes."

"If you need me to do it just let me know okay?"

Amoura nodded "Thanks also for you know talking to me and helping me. I haven't told anybody but I'll let Jaliyah know. I trust both of y'all."

"No problem girl, you know I'm here for you always."

Amoura gave her a hug and got out. She waved bye as Emani pulled off and went inside the house. As she went upstairs her mind went to Dre. She didn't even wanna talk to him. She was still mad about what happened. She definitely didn't want to tell him she was pregnant because she was scared and on top of that she felt he'd put the blame on her since she didn't want to get a plan b that day.

Laying in bed and constantly thinking about the whole abortion thing made her fall asleep.

It was the next day and Amoura had woke up to the smell of breakfast. She checked her phone and seen it was eleven thirty. She still felt tired but wanted to get up to get something to eat. She made her way downstairs and saw her papa on the couch eating some eggs while watching Jerry springer.

"Goodmorning papa." She said

"Morning babygirl."

"What grandma make?"

"Some pancakes, eggs, sausage, and grits. You know how she get down." He laughed

Amoura went in the kitchen and Ace was in his high chair eating

"Goodmorning y'all."

"Morning. I made you a plate." She said pointing to it

"Thank youu." She said before sitting down to eat

She checked her phone and seen she had a message from both Emani and Jaliyah in their groupchat.

I'm not all the way sure but yeah Jaliyah I was considering an abortion because I'm just not at all ready honestly. I know ur happy but it's just not the right time for me. But again as I said I'm not sure because I have to find out how far along I am. Idk how to get that done without my grandma.

Amoura finished her food and drunk her orange juice. She was hoping this food would stay down. She didn't want her grandma questioning her. After eating she went upstairs and took herself a shower. After she got dressed she checked her phone.

Amoura finished getting ready and put her coat on. She told her grandpa and papa she was going to the store and to run some errands. She could tell her grandma knew something was up but didn't speak on it. She got in the car Jaliyah was in the backseat.

"I cannot wait for it to start getting warmer out." Amoura said, as she put her seatbelt on

"Girl what? Act up season needs to hurry." Jaliyah said "I wanna wear shorts with my cheeks hanging out. This cold shit ain't it."

"Felt that." Emani laughed

The drive there they talked about Amouras pregnancy. They tried to convince her not to get an abortion.

"I promise when you see that baby you're not going to want to continue with your decision." Jaliyah said

"And Amoura you know you always say Ace was a blessing. Just imagine... this could be another blessing."

"I wish I could see it how y'all do. I have a kid y'all don't so y'all don't fully understand how I feel. Going through with pregnancy is a challenge in itself just to have to take care of a baby and I don't know if I'll have to do it alone."

"I see what you saying I just also know there could be some regret after getting an abortion." Jaliyah said

"I rather that than being responsible for another child at my age. I'm not ready for another baby."

"We'll see how it goes." Emani said sighing "It's up to you Amoura. It's not up to us."

Emani parked and they all got out. They went inside the building and it wasn't that much people there.

"Come on." Emani said and Amoura and Jaliyah both followed her

The went down the hall and made a turn soon getting to an office. The lady was inside some scrubs and was at the computer typing.

"This her, Auntie." She told her, referring to amoura "This also my friend Jaliyah."

"Hello girls, how are you today?" She shook their hands and they both said hi back

"I'm good." Amoura said

"Okay you're the one that wants the ultrasound right?"

Amoura nodded "Yes."

"Okay I'm just going to have you fill out this paperwork." She said handing Amoura some papers

Amoura took them and the pen and went to sit down in the chair. She started filling out whatever she knew.

"So missy I hear you don't want to tell your parents?"

Amoura looked up "Yeah at least not yet..."

"You're scared or are they crazy?" She said jokingly making them laugh

"Uh little of both. I just know she'll be disappointed so I'm kinda scared honestly."

"That's okay that's normal." She said "When's the last time you got your period?"

"I haven't had my period for a minute now maybe about two months I'd say."

"Yeah that's definitely pretty long."

Amoura nodded

"Well, I'm more than welcome to give you the ultrasound and let you know how far along you are because your belly doesn't look like you're far enough along to tell a gender yet."

"Thank you so much, I appreciate it."

"No problem." She smiled "Come on."

They went into a room and Amoura lifted her shirt up and laid down. She watched as the lady got out the jelly with her gloves on. She put the gel on Amouras stomach and started to rub it around with the probe. Soon showing the baby.

After estimating when her last period was and telling her the lady got a closer look.

"You're ten weeks along." She said moving it around

"Really?"

"So that's like three months right?"

She nodded "Everything is looking good. Has the baby been moving?"

"No." Amoura said "I didn't know I was pregnant until I took a test yesterday. I've just been having the usual symptoms. I've been pregnant before but never had these type of symptoms with my son besides being tired a lot."

"Oh wow so this isn't your first rodeo huh?" She said jokingly

Amoura laughed a little "Nope."

She talked her through the baby's movements as they continued. Amoura watched the screen in awe.

"See babys arms and legs." She pointed out "You can kinda see those little toes and fingers."

Amoura and the girls laughed.

"Wow." Amoura was lost for words "I'm still in shock. There's really a baby in me."

"I told you you would feel different." Jaliyah said

"Kinda different now that you're seeing baby in there huh?" The lady said

Amoura nodded "Mhm hm."

When Amoura was finished she got some of the ultrasound pictures and was told she'd get a call about her results checking if the baby had no Down syndrome or any other chromosomal conditions. When they got back inside the car Amoura looked over the ultrasound pictures. Seeing the baby made her start to think different. She was now feeling like she didn't want to kill her baby.

"I need time to think." Amoura said "I'm just really confused on what I want to do even though."

"You can still get an abortion at ten weeks?"

"Yeah she can." Emani said "You can if it has been seventy one days or more since the first day of your last period. I definitely had to look that up."

"You still wanna get one?" Jaliyah asked looking at Amoura
